About ZINC- Philadelphia

This second restaurant of Olivier Desaintmartin, ZINC is no less than a replica of a “le Marais” style bar restaurant, artists most preferred section of Paris. Le Marais is also the oldest part of the French capital.

Desaintmartin bought a 1919 zinc bar from a Parisian bar, refinished it, and shipped it to this quaint 40 seats bar/restaurant.

Acclaimed for its food, romance and its specialty drinks, Zinc becomes a hang out for locals, a meeting place. You can share a charcuterie or a fromage plate with a glass of Chinon, or sit at the bar sipping a French aperitif waiting for your party, or enjoy some oysters with a Muscadet.

The bistro menu is the same for brunch and dinner so at any time of the day you may choose to order eggs Benedict or steak frites or even just an apple tart with a “coupe “ of Blanquette de Limoux (sparkling wine).

I have always enjoyed this restaurant. It is a very genuine French Bistro. The food is not wildly exotic - nor should it be for a Bistro - but it is excellent quality, and good portions. The escargots were raved about by another member of the group and my steak/frites was excellent with flavorful and tender steak. The wine list is small but well chosen with a good choice of reasonably priced wines by the glass. Service is very good.

I can't believe we waited this long to finally try Zinc. What a neighborhood secret! The chef was trained in Paris and it shows. The food was terrific, the menu included a wide range of choices considering how small the restaurant is. Definitely go!

French bistro dining in Phila. Charming, small and solid food and wine list. The menu was a bit limited; would have like to see more veggie and fish options. Small portions but certainly adequate. Worth a visit if you enjoy French cuisine. Not expensive for a French restaurant.

We thought that on NYE the prix fixe started after 8 but this changed. However we really enjoyed everything that was served from appetizers through desert. The crab/scallop first course was really the star and something to repeat. We will return!

Excellent food as well as excellent service. Being New Years Eve, our server was thoughtful enough to inquire if we were trying to make it to a show after dinner, so that each course could be brought out in a manner that allowed us to make it to the orchestra with time to spare.

First visit, easy access from public transit and overall quite a nice experience. A cosy room on a cold winter night. Service was excellent and food did not disappoint. Party of four and everyone was more than satisfied with their experience.

We have been very pleased all three times we've come here for dinner. It's pretty pricey, so we usually save it for special occasions, but we feel that the food justifies the prices. The service is personal and welcoming, and the French cuisine is always great.

Lasagne greasy. Fish almost inedibly salty. House salad is exceedingky small and primarily frisé, the least expensive lettuce. Server pleasant but strangely unwilling to replace an accidental wine spilled tablecloth with a full clean one rather than trying patchwork.

This used to be my favorite neighborhood restaurant. But the service was very slow, the portion size on my scallop casserole small (there were 4 scallops) and the noise was unbearable. It will be a while before I return on a Saturday night.

Authentic French cuisine in a superb bistro setting. The name refers to the bar's composition. While steak or poulet frites are available, the other menu items offer a range of delicious choices from appetizer to dessert. The food preparation is classic French with subtle seasoning and delicious sauces. Warm and crusty French bread accompanies the meal. There is a full bar and a comprehensive wine list.

This restaurant is owned by the proprietor of the Caribou Cafe and both places are well established in Philadelphia's restaurant scene. They deliver quality in a beautiful setting.
My husband and I return again and again.

When we arrived, we had a big party and another group of two was sitting at a table needed to set up for our party. Our reservation was at 8:45 and because of those two people we were not able to be seated until 9:45. The managing staff made up for the huge inconvenience by providing free champagne and cheese boards, which made the night a bit better.

Zinc is spectacular! My wife and I had a 4 day weekend and decided to fly to Philly from Little Rock Arkansas on Thursday for the Duck Press at Zinc. The food was ridiculously good. The wine on there menu is well thought out and not expensive. We will be back. This would be a $500.00 meal in most places that serve it. It was a great prelude to a day in the Rodin, Barnes, and the Philadelphia Art Museum.

BAD SERVICE ABD A LING WAIT! I had reservations for 800 last night and got there well in time, only to be told that the other diners were "taking longer than usual." After waiting outside for 35 minutes with two other groups, it became clear we were not going to get seated for some time. Since we had tix to Helium at 10, we were understandably perturbed. Finally the waitress suggested we eat outside , which we decided to do, even though they are not set up for it (tables not level, no heat lamps). It was cool out but bearable. The food was very good. But the wait to get served and the general uncaring attitude of the staff made the meal less enjoyable. Finally, I expected some kind of recompense from the staff for the inconvenience. Although they sent a complimentary small cheese tray to start, I expected them to st least comp the drinks or offer some sort of apology. I mentioned this to the waitress who said she had in fact asked the manager to comp the drinks, but he refused. We won't return.

Visiting from New York. We felt fortunate to have found such a nice place. A very nice, cozy dining room with adequate space between tables. The food was very good...very well prepared. The portion size of the main courses was generous. Unfortunately, my rare steak was closer to medium well done...still very good, but not great.

It is a pleasure to have a small place where the service is friendly, the atmosphere relaxed and the chef is very good.

This perfect neighborhood gem has been a staple for many years and continues to exemplify the perfect small French bistro. It is a beautiful, romantic setting and we love coming here. David our waiter, is a staple as well- knowledgeable, funny, and efficient. The food has always been consistent and delicious- I want to give a shout out for their special duck press dinner- worth every penny and quite the show- as well as their delicious pate, house salad, steak frites and mussels- but everything is divine here. Desserts are light and yummy! We went for a friend's birthday celebration- she was from Brazil- and they loved everything about this little precious bistro. Thank you Olivier and David for another amazing meal and perfect evening!

Made reservation through OpenTable and confirmed it via text and via email prior to our arriving on time for 6 o'clock reservation. When we arrived we were told there was no reservation and questioned if we had made one or not. The restaurant was not full and we were seated anyway. The waitress said she would be with us in a moment but it was a good 15 minutes before that moment arrived. We explained we had theater tickets for at 8 pm, not too much of a rush but wanted to point out that we did have a time constraint. We ordered appetizers and wine and both took a while to arrive. The menu was quite confusing as what was on the menu was different than what they were actually serving and the menu also stated that they had a price fix dinner of $34 June through September. It was October and we asked if they were still honoring the pricefix and we were told no it's October. It seems a simple thing to re-print menus and have updated and correct menus. Three of us ordered the Bouillabaisse which I often order that at restaurants and this was disappointing. Very heavy on sausage and the bread was very heavily topped with a creamy cheese which I didn't think it was needed since wanted to dip the cheese in the broth. Even items that were on the chalkboard we're not being served which seemed very odd it's easy to update a chalkboard. We just had time to eat or appetizers and did not have time for dessert or coffee. Unfortunately service was slow and we had to ask for our check and that took a while to process and we just made our 8 o'clock curtain call. Surprised since located near theatres and Kimmel
Center that they were not more efficient in getting theatre and concert goers served within two hours. Sadly I do not think I will return

Two couples got together at Zinc for a pre-Orchestra dinner and enjoyed it very much. We had a table near the window which made conversation a bit easier in this noisy bistro. We had a variety of appetizers and entrees and all were nicely- presented and delicious. Of special note were the octopus salad served on top of smoked salmon and the bouillabaisse, to take nothing away from the other dishes. Service was friendly and attentive to make sure we had plenty of time to curtain. Great place.

I was very disappointed having eaten there several times with excellent meals. My server smelled horribly which took away my appetite. The service was glacial . I ordered the snapper special which had 2 pieces of fish. One piece was inedible and could not be eaten as it was all dark meat and would not come off the skin. I did not send it back as we had symphony tickets and waited for 1 hour. Hard to believe things have gone downhill this badly
