ZINC New Haven Ratings and Reviews
First time dining here and I was very impressed. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Went here on date night and made a reservation ahead of time. There was a lovely corner booth ready for us upon arrival. The woman who walked us to our seat was very friendly and professional. We enjoyed our time here and will definitely be back.
Came here New Year’s Eve for dinner with friends before a show. Had the artichoke and dumpling small plates as well as 3 cheeses to share. All were phenomenal. I had gnocchi but others had various fish dinners. We were all very happy with our choices. Waiter was informative, friendly and attentive. We will be back!
We arrived early for reservation and was seated promptly. We were even given a big table for our party of 4,because the previous party had canceled. The food was good, although the cheese plates are over priced for what you get. Our main course was delicious and prepared perfectly. Our waiter was nice. Over all good experience here.
Zinc is now a veteran amongst New Haven high quality restaurants and it excels in all matters to do with fine dining. It has maintained its standards by continuously pushing for higher quality in the wine selection and in the adventurousness of its menu. The staff is universally courteous and efficient.
We visited Zinc for the first time with our son and one of his suitemates the Thursday before the "Yale(beat) Harvard" game. Beautiful restaurant, great beers, and wine selection. I've been to our other child's college campus since being at Yale, so I'm honestly cannot recall what each of us ordered, as there have been many other restaurants in between, but suffice to say, it was ll terrific! I'm partially deaf, so they kindly gave us a quieter table. I met my husband, son, and his roommate there. I had no problem finding Zinc, but the three guys EACH headed for a restaurant (related?) in the area called, "Zinc Kitchen, " I believe. Because of that, they each were late by 15-25 minutes while I sat alone, but the server was very understanding and just kept me happy with a drink and an appetizer. Definitely going to make a repeat visit when we get the chance to see our son, again (hoping for one more trip to CT before graduation).
We had a lovely birthday celebration at Zinc in an energetic environment with delicious, creative, thoughtfully crafted food. The manager, Elizabeth, was extremely responsive with my request to bring in a an outside custom cake. Donna, one of the co-owners, greeted me so kindly when I arrived early and took the cake away so it would be a surprise when presented at the end of the meal. All nine of us enjoyed our dinners. I had the field green salad with pumpkin seeds that was perfectly dressed. At the suggestion of the very sweet waitress, I ordered the Montauk striped bass in carrot and lime coconut broth, fall squash mash, Brussels sprouts and Asian pear. It was delicious. The bass skin was blackened, but not charred, the Brussels sprouts were shaved and blackened but not charred and not over cooked. The Asian pear was so flavorful that I'm curious if it was macerated in something delicious before going into the dish. My husband had the grilled hangar steak which was tender and flavorful. Our daughter enjoyed her duck bulgogi and some of our guests had the ricotta gnocchi. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. I'm looking forward to our next meal at Zinc. The only thing that I wish were different is I would have preferred for the lighting to be a little stronger. I like to admire my beautiful plate before I eat it and that's hard to do when the lights are low but that's just me.
We love Zinc and it didn't disappoint us: the food was great (we had the salmon and the chicken entrees and the appetizers and desserts that were part of the Special Menu) The service was A+ both in efficiency and in friendliness. Unfortunately, I forgot that the night was part of Restaurant Week and the place was super-busy and the noise level was, naturally, much higher than desirable. It wasn't a typical situation, though, so my only advice is to avoid Restaurant Week if you want to meet friends for low key conversations.
This is not my first visit to Zinc and it will not be my last. I have left multiple reviews on this site before, so hopefully you will find those as more descriptive than this one (not much time to elaborate).
The food is always of great quality and interesting combinations, and the service is always top notch. They have a long wine list for bottles, pretty good options for by the glass, and some great changing cocktails. The Menu changes on a seasonal basis, but if you're looking for one go-to that never disappears it's the awesome Duck Nachos.
The Noise level depends on how full the place is, but in general you can always hear your conversation without much trouble and it has a nice Ambiance. Dress code / elegance is a little above your average, but you don't have to get to dressy and I've never seen them give anyone any problems with it.
This restaurant has few competitors/arguments in the discussion of Best Overall Restaurant in New Haven. (There are a few I've heard argued that are good, but this is my choice by far.)
Very enjoyable. This restaurant does everything right. Service is excellent, food is the best. We have been here several times in the last few months, and it never, ever disappoints.
Donna (co-owner) is the most gracious person, we love her sparkling personality.
Can't wait to return!
