So glad we chose Zimbali! What a unique and wonderful experience: exploring the Retreat, walking with staff on the Farm Tour, and enjoying a delicious dinner. Chef Alecia took us through ingredients of each course and we learned so much about culture and food of Jamaica. It was a very engaging evening and a beautiful serene setting. If you are not sure how to get there, I recommend contacting Mark at Zimbali and he will arrange taxi. We were picked up right on schedule at our resort. I would definitely take a taxi and take a back seat and enjoy the views on way to Zimbali.

When we travel anywhere in the world I always try to find unique local experiences for us to try. This visit we discovered Zimbali Mountain Retreat, in the hills outside of Negril. Tucked away off a long slow rustic road, is a magical treehouse type kitchen overlooking an organic farm, from which meals are prepared. We enjoyed a 5 course chef’s tasting menu, live drummers, a farm tour, and lovely company. The food was exceptional. Alicia, the Chef, is a master level cook who infused her healthy food with love and care. (You can also stay there, as they have a small number of rooms, however we did not.) This restaurant is one I would return to again in a minute. We were given a fresh juice to start and had the option to purchase a beer or cocktail at the bar. Live music (drummers) started just after 5pm and were excellent. I have a serious shellfish allergy and chef Alicia easily accommodated me on our five course menu. Speaking of which, Alicia is spectacular. Beautiful calm energy, a real focus on eating for health and joy. I wish I could convince her to come open a restaurant in Boston - I would eat there weekly! First course was a spectacular salad with perhaps the best dressing I’ve ever had. Second course was a pumpkin soup that was light and incredibly delicious. Third course was a lentil and salsa dip with sweet potato chips. A hint of heat and delicious! The fourth course was what you ordered on arrival. I had the coconut chicken and my husband had the curried shrimp. Truthfully we were already quite full by this course and it didn’t have quite the same magic as the prior three courses as a result, but it was tasty and fresh. The final course was dessert and it was beyond words good. I’ll let you be surprised by that course! We utilized the offer of private transportation from our Negril hotel and a driver was prompt, courteous and got us there in about 55 minutes. Note there are some rough roads - totally safe, just slow going.

What an incredible, authentic culinary experience! We happened upon this place a few years ago and have come back every year since bringing more friends and family each time. It is such a unique experience, and the location is so relaxed, the owners are so warm and friendly and the food is delicious! This is now an annual event, next time we will be staying at their place to take full advantage of their hospitalilty- such a great find. Thank you!

Découverte d’un joyaux 💎 dans la montagne de Little London in Negril, je le recommande For a real SlowFood experience, with a visit to the farm before the meal, drumming with Rastafarian, 5-course dinner with Chef Alicia who introduces us to local flavors with great delicacy and respect for the food and the nature that sustains it. gives birth! Hands down the best meal and excursion of our entire vacation. We were staying on the beach and they arranged for transportation to and from their mountain retreat. Loved the farm tour and African drummers. Chef Alicia was amazing- so knowledgeable and the meal was mostly plant based.

We had a nice time. But some of the food was a solid mis. The people and the place are a very fun time. But the food I feel was a miss. Not everything .. but the main dish was just not great. Please understand taste is very subjective and I can only speak for myself. The experience was fun , but there was a miss with the food. Love the friendly positive vibe everyone had.!

Unfortunately, this was not worth the high price that they charge. Positives are that it's a beautiful location, in a lovely building with a great ambience. Drummers played all through the evening. However, the food was disappointing. Some courses were nice, but nothing that I haven't had in other parts of Jamaica for literally 1/8 of the price. The main in particular was really uninspiring - a very standard bean stew, with burned plantain fritters. The performance element was also very half-hearted. The chef didn't tell us much about the food, and some of what she did say was factually incorrect. She was bored-looking, and quite patronising, speaking to the diners like children. I was very excited to go to Zimbali because of the great reputation it holds, but I sadly would not recommend it to anyone. Spend your money elsewhere!

Although the farm tour was brief, compared to our visit in 2020, we still enjoyed the tour and the shared knowledge of the plants and trees that are valuable resources. Our dinner was fabulous. Every dish was so thoughtfully prepared and tasteful. The knowledge of the ingredients shared by Chef as amazing. Makes us want to become better, more conscious cooks at home when preparing meals. Thank you for the hospitality and the wonderful evening!

Unique and memorable - the food was incredible! We enjoyed checking out the countryside on the drive from Negril to Zimbali's. We did the dinner experience with live drum music. The setting is rustic but elegant, the staff were very welcoming, and the food was just...wow! Our chef prepared a beautiful, healthy, 5-course meal before our eyes. She entertained us, telling us about all the fresh ingredients she was using and their health benefits. Every dish was vibrant, beautifully plated, and delicious. We were served 3 vegetarian appetizers, an entree with the protein of our choice (fish, chicken, shrimp, or vegetarian), and dessert. My partner is normally not an adventurous eater and I was worried he would not enjoy this, but he loved it. He's a meat-and-potatoes guy, but the chef had him enjoying dishes he would not normally try, like an amazing cream of pumpkin soup with coconut milk. YUM. I highly recommend checking out Zimbali's!

The day we went there was a little rain happening so we were not able to tour the farm. If we had been able to tour the farm it would have enhanced the tour. Request to sit at the long bar table to see the chef cook. If we were able to tour the farm and were able to see the chef cook, I would have given it an overall 10. The food was amazing! it took us 1 hour to get to the location from the cliffs. We had 5 people so transportation was $100.00, offered when we booked. All the transportation companies wait for you so you might look or ask your hotel if there is a less expensive transportation option. umbrellas would have been a good option for them to offer us for an even small tour of the garden.

It's all about the ambience with Zimbali's. Sort of like a Disneyland ride. Honestly the food was just meh. My wife and a woman to my left got two different shrimp dishes, and their shrimp was very overcooked. Very disappointing. The other courses were just average.

Great place for a 5 course gourmet meal! Wonderful setting in the mountains surrounded by the natural beauty of the island. The trip there is also a bit of an adventure and we got to see the “ non tourist” part of Jamaica. The food was picked from the Zimbali farm and taken immediately to the kitchen for cooking. All the food is prepared in front of the guests and they limit the number of people to 20 so it’s never crowded or busy. Wife had garlic shrimp and I had the jerk shrimp. Both were delicious! This was our 2nd time at Zimbali Retreat and it will be a “must do” on our next trip!! Highly recommended!!

We went as a group of 23 people as part of my husbands birthday celebration and our experience was amazing. The food, the staff and the beauty of the natural surroundings was spectacular. Mark made the experience of planning the dinner so wonderful, he answered every question in a timely manner and expeditious executed all my requests. He was extremely accommodating to have the driver make a special stop so we could drop off schools supplies we donated to a school on our way to Zimbali. That’s service that’s above and beyond.

We had an unbelievable experience at Zimbali’s restaurant! We loved tasting produce native to Jamaica and learning so much from all of the staff at the hotel. Fantastic food and service! We did have our two kids with us and they had an amazing time too. The youngest is 11 and enjoyed watching food be prepared and tried everything. Well worth it to take children to learn more about food and life in Jamaica!

My boyfriend and I had an amazing experience at Zimbali’s Mountain Cooking show. We we’re kinda skeptical because of our dietary request (Vegan) but Chef Alicia and I forgot the other chef’s name 🫣 did amazing. We had no idea what they we’re making us, she said it was chef’s special. It was a curry stew( one of my favorite dishes) over some mashed red peas. I can’t say enough how much we enjoyed this experience. It’s definitely a must when visiting Jamaica 🇯🇲

The Zimbali cooking studio dinner was a wonderfully unique and memorable experience. We had a great time all around on our holiday in Negril but the night at Zimbali was easily the best. All the food was delicious and it was really cool getting to try so many Jamaican fruits and vegetables that aren't available at home. Gorgeous mountain scenery on the drive there and at the studio. I highly recommend Zimbali if you're in the area and will definitely return if we're in Negril again.

This was quite overpriced for a short walk in the backyard (the "farm tour") and a meal where some guests were clearly favored over others. Overall the experience felt overbooked, and for this being marketed as a farm to table tour I learned very little. For the farm tour, there were too many people and we could barely hear anything from the guide. The guide didn't seem enthusiastic; it felt like he rushed through everything and just essentially pointed to a few trees and plants that were often far away. For the meal, the chef discussed the ingredients for the first course or two, but then she narrated less and less for the remaining courses. By the final course or two I did not know what I was eating, and was definitely not learning anything. The food was okay, some dishes were better than others. There was a lot of time between courses (which I am fine with - "island time" - but then we were rushed out at the end.) All of this aside, my major issue with the experience was the attitude of the chef. A certain demographic of people was seated closest to the chef. The chef interacted with these people much more kindly and politely than she did with the others. The people who did not meet this demographic were seated father from the chef, in the back, and could not see or hear much. When these people asked the chef questions or tried to interact with her, the chef was rude and dismissive to them. This was completely opposite to how the chef treated the "upper class" guests who were seated up front. Even if the people were seated according to the order of reservations received, it does not explain the difference in the chef's attitude towards certain guests.

I highly recommend this culinary and educational experience. Food was amazing. Zimbali is now a "must do" when in Negril. The ride is a bit tedious but worth it! See beautiful countryside and a truly farm-to-table, delicious dining experience.

Delious Dinner, entertaining, fun. We left with a greater appreciation of Jamaica and the simple loving nature of the Jamaican people and their philosophy of life and what we put into our bodies. This was a great experience.
