Zimbali's Mountain Cooking Studio
The tour begins with a Zimbali greeting & introduction while sipping a freshly made fruit juice. Then our farm manager leads a tour of the farm and then back to the cooking studio for a fun filled cooking demonstration which includes a bottle of wine/couple.
Both lunch and dinner consist of: an appetizer, main course and dessert, w/ dinner having an extra appetizer as well. There is a choice in main course dishes between: fish, chicken, shrimp or vegan/vegetarian- Gluten free is a welcome option as well.

Very fun and special place.
Food was very good.
Lovely drive through the real Jamaican
countryside to get there.
It’s a must if near Negril!
Our group very much enjoyed our trip to Zimbali. It is off the beaten path and it was great to learn about the farm to table practices of the retreat. A wonderful place to visit. Our dinner was excellent and we felt so good about the delicious foods we ate and the care that goes into growing, harvesting and preparing the farm ingredients. A great treat!
Unique Jamaican experience. Must be top of list of to do’s in Jamaica
Amazing people with amazing food, the dogs were so funny.
please go here and experience true Jamaican hospitality
Thanks to Chef Alicea and the kind gentle man who did our farm tour.
Remember to wear good shoes (sneakers) rough terrain in the farm
Amazing setting, amazing staff, amazing food. I will be back the next time I'm in Negril - it's a very unique experience!
Absolutely amazing all the way around! We can not wait to return.
True farm to table with rich Jamaican cultural experience. Did not disappoint! Will return again when back in Jamaica
Amazing! The food was wonderful. The people are clearly knowledgeable and passionate about what they're doing. Very welcoming. Well worth the time away from the beach!
Our experience at Zimbali was incredible. Highly recommend. We can’t wait to go back for another amazing dinner!
An Incredible and unique restaurant unlike anything I’ve tried before. A definite must if you are in Jamaica.
We returned to Zimbali and enjoyed it again. Interesting area, sweet folks that work it and delicious dinner.
It was a really fun experience and the food was fantastic!
An experience like no other! Incredible, fresh, true farm to table food cooked right in front of you. A wonderful look at the amazing people and culture of Jamaica!
What an amazing experience! It was one of the highlights for us. The service was amazing and the food was as well. It was great to go out on the property to see where they grow the food and to hear about how things are done—we’re excited to go back one day when the greenhouses are complete. We also enjoyed meeting the owners and hearing their background and seeing their family interact on the property—it was like they invited us into their home.
I’d highly recommend this trip for a different experience that you won’t find everywhere. Part of the fun for us was our journey to Zimbalis. The driver picked us up for $15 per person round trip. He was prompt and a delightful individual that told us all about the area along the way.
If you’re disappointed by this experience, it has to be a ‘you’ problem. How could anyone not have a great time?! Book it!!
My second visit here and I was just as thrilled as the first time. This time we brought a friend to introduce her to the experience, and being a foodie also, she loved it! One of the things that immediately grabs you about Zimbali is that feeling of tranquility and the beautiful scenery and landscape that genuinely makes you feel like you've escaped the madness of every day life for a while. The warm hospitality of the staff makes you feel quite welcome, and I absolutely love the African drumming.
Of course the food is divine - really creative menus and an interesting blend of herbs, spices and flavours that give you great ideas that you can try out in your own kitchen. With 5 courses there is more than enough to enjoy. My only suggestion would be to try and incorporate a bit more narrative as the Chef and her assistants prepare each course. It would be nice if they told us a bit about what they are preparing and walked us through some of the ingredients as they are working, rather than just waiting until it is plated and served to say what the dish is. I think this would engage the guests a bit more and enhance the experience somewhat, but notwithstanding, it stills get a thumbs up from me!
Every time my wife and I travel, we seek unique and top level dining experiences. We drove a car around the island, and had no problem making our way to the restaurant. We arrived a little early and were provided a tour of the currently expanding garden area. The food was very good and subtle. It was fascinating hearing about the various native ingredients and seeing them put into quasi-familiar forms. Only my meal at La Mar in Lima stands out as much as this place, if that means anything to you ...
Definitely a culinary gem location in Jamaica. A must visit restaurant if you are a foodie.
Talk about an amazing experience for all your senses. Highly recommend to anyone coming to Negril.
You will never forget the experience
You will have and unbelievable time
Our visit was fantastic. From the farm tour to the well appreciated cool cloth afterwards everything was thought of. Our group of 10 was treated to a wonderful food experience. I highly recommend making this a stop on your Jamaican vacation.
Zimbali's was quite a nice spot tucked in the mountains. We sadly got rained out from the part of the tour to see the farm (a bit frustrating given the tour guide was running late to lead us to see more).
The food was nice and we had a great spot on the corner to watch all the cooking. I'm not sure I would frame this as a Cooking studio (which to me implies giving some instruction as to how things were made or interesting cooking techniques unique to Jamaica). If in America, I would have felt the whole experience was lovely and a slightly expensive from a 'overall value' perspective. Given the prices in Jamaica are so low, it did feel a bit overpriced for $75 a head for a meal including a fairly basic salad, vegetarian soup, samosa, main and dessert. Seeing the farm / grounds might have tipped the scale on the value but it seemed a bit out of sync with the cost of experience else where on the island.
One final note, we had an extreme back grounds drive having come from the falls. I'd recommend not following Google maps.
A total Jamaican culinary experience from field to table. Zimbali is a truly beautiful, scenic setting and the food is delicious. You won't get this anywhere else. Highly recommend.
Simply outstanding. If you are in Negril, get off the beach and away from the resorts and make the trek to Zimbali's for one the best meals in the area. The food is prepared beautifully, is farm-to-table, and is delicious. I had meals at some of the best of the resorts in the area and this meal was easily the best. Plus, the drive to Zimbali's let's you see a bit of Jamaica beyond the beach and the cliffs.
Completely different than other tourist options, located in the rural mountains. Both food and hospitality were incredible and lived up to all expectations. I would recommend as something off the beaten path in Jamaica.
My wife and I visited the studio for Thanksgiving Day this year. We rode to the studio with another couple and as it turned out they were from my home state, Kentucky. Otis was our driver.
The ambiance was awesome as was the food. "Jeff the Chef" and Andre' were very informative as to the various fruits and vegetables they grow on the farm and what was used being prepared.
Clifford gave us a very interesting tour of the farm and it was very enjoyable.
I would like to go back again and stay for a night or two in the rooms they have as I have to think the evenings in the mountain are an experience.
My thanks to all for making it a truly unique Thanksgiving Day for Laurie and I.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Zimbali from the friendly greeting upon our arrival, through the informative tour of the organic farm that provides much of the restaurant's food and then culminating in a fantastic four course meal prepared in front of us by Alecia and her team. Our food was beautiful, delicious and perfectly cooked. Wine and delightful banter with our server added to an already wonderful ambience.
From start to finish our experience at Zimbali was wonderful! The drive up was scenic, the farm tour great and the food spectacular! So much fun to watch the chefs in action preparing our dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed the drummers afterwards as well! Would definitely go back again!
Quite simply it is THE place to go to if you find yourself in Jamaica.
Zimbali’s is a magical experience, the venue, the location, the staff, the food is all outstanding.
This one experience I am truly grateful for in my life.
Great food great experience don't let the ride in the middle of no where scar you it's all safe and worth the mobile for real jamaica
What a wonderful and unique experience. About an hour east, on a lush plantation , we enjoyed getting away from the hustle of negril. We went on a Wednesday evening, so African drummers welcomed us. We sipped on some fresh squeezed juice and enjoyed the lush vegetation around us as we swayed to the beat.
We had a tour of the plantation where we learned about the local agricultural and what we were about to eat.
Then we were all sat to see the chefs prepare our four course meal. The food was delicious. We had the fish and shrimp.
Great experience. If you are able, go when the drummers are there. Worth the extra $10 and the time. Do expect to stay awhile. We were there from 5 until almost 10.
Absolutely an amazing experience. Friendly and knowledgable about the area, the food and culture, and excited to share it with everyone, this experience was definitely a highlight of our trip to Jamaica and one of my personal best dining experiences. Have already recommended it to a friend who will be travelling to Jamaica.
We enjoyed the food but thought the whole night would be more interactive. The farm tour was short and just pointed out some vegetables growing. We wanted to find out the story of the place and how it operates. Once we got seated we thought the chef would would talking to us about Jamaican food and how our meal was prepared, instead just a brief description of each course once it was passed out. This was not worth the money.
This was our second time at Zimbali, and it was as wonderful as our memory of the first time. It's stunning there, so much fun, truly incredible food, and wonderful people. Go on drumming night if you can! Thank you again to Mark, Alicia, and everyone else for such a special experience!
Such an amazing experience we had. The tour, the experience, the food and the dining area were superior.
We were also greeted by Mark when we arrived who is very engaging and friendly. His wife also thanked all of us individually for coming with genuine appreciation.
The beautiful nature setting adds to the ambiance and the staff can tell you what everything is. I highly recommend spending an evening and partaking in this culinary experience that will engage all your senses.
This was a wonderful and very unique experience. The food was delicious! We drove ourselves, which was a mistake. The roads are really bad-take their $15 pick up option. Bring mosquito repellent
It’s worth the money, and probably the best food I’ve had the two times I’ve been to Jamaica. GO!
I found Zimbali to be a great outing. The food was fantastic and the chefs were very inviting and friendly. I would have liked to have been able to buy drinks earlier in the dinner process, prior to the tour, but they did not seem staffed for that kind of thing.
The road to the place is rough, but Jermaine the history man takes his time and it is not bad at all. The experience to get away from the resorts and to see how many Jamaicans are living is sobering, but knowing that you are paying to a local farm that helps out people directly feels way better than another night of the resorts hiding you from what the island is really about. It also is all outdoors, so do not expect air conditioning and some complained of mosquitoes on the tour though none got me that I noticed.
I highly recommend it for the experience and would suggest anyone staying in Jamaica to consider these kinds of outings to give back to the community and not just to the outer 1% of the island.
While the place is amazing, it was a bit unorganized.
We loved the drummers!!
Food was not great for the price we paid. $90 per person...yikes!
We loved Michael our driver though!!
He got us back and forth with lots of great conversation and singing!!
What a wonderful venue! Chef Alecia was fabulous! The food was delicious and super fresh. The tour is the garden was cool
I've been to Negril many times and was curious about Zimbali's, it did not disappoint. The studio is beautiful and the experience of relaxing, touring the farm, watching them cook and plate eye and taste pleasing food and dessert was incredible. It's expensive, but if you can afford it, you wont' be disappointed.
Great culinary experience. The environment was remote and relaxing. If you’re in the Negril area I would definitely recommend. The food was great and the staff was very professional. Can’t ask for anything more out of a culinary experience.
