Zia's 'on the hill'
Zia's is known for many dishes among which include Chicken Spiedini, Seafood Pastas and Award Winning salad dressing.
A really nice restaurant with excellent service, and delicious food.
Dated furniture and appointments, and an uncomfortably crowded bar force hungry customers waiting for their turn to hang out on the outside street corner where there are no seats.
It's a nice problem for the proprietors, but not so much for the customers.
The food is always excellent. Was disappointed with the pasta shells with the veal parmigiana instead of linguine but the waiter took care of me, so all is well.
Thank you for the dinner.
Overall enjoyable with classic Italian dishes, would go back if in the area. Open Table Reservations were not found and it happened to more than us. If you make an Open Table Reservation CALL TO CONFIRM, or you may have a long wait. OR SKIP Open Table altogether and just call directly
Dinner was great. Our server was excellent. We will definitely come back.
The food and service were amazing, as always!
Fantastic place! I live in central Illinois, and have been there many times. I love the many menu options. Service is impeccable!
Never got to experience a meal here. Made a 730pm reservation on Open Table, and when we arrived, was told it would be at least a 45 minute wait. When I reminded hostess I had a confirmed reservation on Open Table, she informed me that they really didn’t honor Open Table reservations. This is unacceptable customer service and the establishment should not be allowed to use Open Table as a platform for dining if they don’t honor the reservations. Rude hostess, do not recommend this restaurant. We ended up having an excellent meal at Lorenzo’s with excellent service.
The food and value were exceptional. We were seated timely. The service was great
Great classic spaghetti and meatballs and wonderful Italian salad
Great value. Very tasty meal. Service was great. We'll be back in the future.
Had a Friday night reservation and it still took roughly 45 minutes to be seated. They remedied this by offering a drink service while we waited, which was very thoughtful. Courses were prepared and brought out in a timely manner. Service was accommodating and pleasant. The food was alright but nothing that special. Everything imaginable was drowned in cheese — even the salad!
We started off with the arancini, fried risotto balls, which were very good when paired with the marinara sauce. I ordered the lasagna special and was satisfied with the flavor and generous portion size. My girlfriend had the chicken soto and was extremely disappointed. The dish was bland and not worth the effort to eat. The saving grace for her was the pasta side dish.
Overall it was a passable experience, nothing to rave over but also not terrible. I got the feeling that this restaurant was resting on its laurels, relying on its history and not current performance for its popularity. When compared to the vast supply of quality Italian cuisine on the historic Hill, this restaurant was middle of the pack, average.
Took 2 first timers with me & they both loved it. Eaten here many times, never disappoints.
Zias on the hill never disappoints, friendly staff and great food. Great portions for the money and such a great variety on the menu
First time to Zia's and couldn't be more pleased. Finally, I understand why this town prides itself on its Italian food and especially The Hill. Food vs. service? A tie because it was so tasty and Taryn was so amazing. I can't remember the last time I left a restaurant feeling so happy and satisfied.
Always enjoy Zias when in town. Food is always prepared fresh and delicious. Thank you!
The food was excellent and you need to try the OBG (Olive oil, butter and garlic) noodles
Easily mine and my fiancé’s favorite spot for our monthly date night.
The service is great. People are friendly. And most of all the food is to-die-for!
Visiting from Texas and went to Zia’s for anniversary dinner. We had a nice cozy table next to a window. Very cold about 19 degrees outside but nice and warm inside Zia’s. So glad they take reservations for just 2 people. Thanks and best to you. Ed C. Houston
Food and service was excellent. Chicken in lemon sauce was delicious. Other special stuffed tortaleni with chicken in Asiago and cream sauce was delicious also. Other party had mushroom stuffed ravioli and it was good too. I am looking forward to ordering stuffed mushroom ravioli next time we visit. We were catching up with a relative from out of town. She had never been to Zia’s and plans to visit again when in town. We were able to talk and visit. The staff were attentive but let us visit. I think we were the last to leave. They did not make us uncomfortable by staying too long.
We loved the food we received at Zia’s. Our waiters we very attentive and on top of everything. The prices for our meals very reasonable
They were closed when we arrived and the reservation was to celebrate a birthday. We had to drive around and try to find something open. We shouldn't have been able to reserve dining for that day!
I booked a table an open table and never did it say you were closed on Sunday. I had plans and timing figured out perfect yet, arrive after finding parking to closed. Take down your open table offering for Sunday like the rest of the hill has figured out. Completely dissappointed and was so embarassed with my guest.
great waiter and the best Italian food I have had, great ambiance, very clean
We love the place , one of our favorite places to eat. The food is always good, no matter what you order- never have been disappointed. Our friends from out of town love it, and when they come in, we always eat there. Service is always outstanding and efficient, and friendly. Don’t ever change, you gave a good thing going.
Really great overall spot. Could always come back. Some of the best salad dressing in the world
I really enjoyed the restaurant and our server. It is my first time back in a couple of years but will definitely be back.
Had excellent service & cuisine from start to finish!!
First time. Great chicken parm. Hostess was sweet and attentive. Waiter quick and informative.
Fantastic service and excellent food.
Love the authentic Italian food, great specials like wild mushroom ravioli. Delicious
I booked my reservation to Zia's on Open Table. One on the questions asked when making the reservation was there a special occasion. I answered yes and stated it was our Anniversary. When we arrived at Zia's, on a Monday evening, we had to wait about 4 minutes for the hostess to arrive back to her stand. She asked how many and I told her we had reservations. She walked us to our table. Since it was a Monday evening, it wasn't busy and there were lots of 4 top tables available. Of course, she sat us at a 2 top. It took a long time for our waiter to come to our table. When he finally arrived he took our drink order and we told him we were ready to order. He did not mention any of the specials and we had to ask twice for some bread. He brought the bread to us without any butter. We asked him to bring us some butter. Of course, that took a couple of minutes to bring. When our dinner arrived, my husband asked for a spoon and another drink. Needless to say that took longer than it should have since it was a Monday night and not busy. Our food was fine, nothing to write home about, especially for the price. Nothing was ever mentioned about our Anniversary which was a little disappointing. Why ask if you don't care to acknowledge. Then the next day I get an email that I won't receive any points for booking Zia's on Open Table. Why have it on the app if you can't get points for booking a restaurant on the app???
Really wonderful food with rich flavors. Marvelous service. Loved the decor & ambience!
Classic Italian family restaurant with great food and service
Disappointing. Had the veal Parmesan and it was just okay. Sauce tasted funky. Colleague has Saltimbocca and they said it was good. They also liked the salad which I didn’t. Bread mediocre too. I thithos was supposed to be the Italian place to go to on the Hill. Meh!
It's a mixed review. There were four of us dining and we all returned our iced tea because it had gone bad. My guess is that it was stored in a metal container that was not washed out with soap often enough. It gets a terrible flavor after a while.
Then our food orders were given. Spiedini with no sauce or butter and no mushrooms. Scampi, Capalinni with sundried tomatoes and shrimp, Eggplant appetizer. Spiedini arrived with tons of mushrooms and was very wet. Scampi was a little overcooked, but edible. Eggplant was undercooked and still rawish in the middle. Was crunchy and had that bitter taste. Eggplant was returned and redelivered about 10 minutes later. Everyone else was almost finished, so I took 3/4 home. Spiedini was taken from the plate of thousands of mushrooms and eaten by itself. Very mediocre. Server should have insisted on recooking as ordered. The others were fine.
The waiter offered 2 free cannolis since my eggplant was not cooked properly. Honestly, I shouldn't have been charged and neither should the spiedini customer. Yuck. I was disappointed in this visit. Our waiter was sweet, but rather ineffective in protecting our interests.
The owner came by at the end and yelled at one of our diners for parking improperly. Lovely. With the rest of the restaurant listening. When is that ok?
I was diappointed with service in that it took a long time to be served in about every aspect of our dining experience. The food was just so-so. I was entertaining guests from out of town and it did not measure up to my expectations and previous dining experiences there.
We have never been disapointed with Zia's. It is one of the best Italian restaurants on the Hill.
This is one of our favorite places to eat while in St. Louis. The food is excellent every single time we visit!
