The food and drinks were great as well as the outdoor seating ambience. I was originally going to sit indoors but it a little like a pub and was much louder than I was anticipating. Nonetheless great experience. Definitely coming back to sit outside

Great Sushi spot with a good amount of options. Drinks were also very good. I would go back. I'm curious about the Karaoke, but it wasn't happening on the night we went (Wednesday).

The food and service were great. The bathrooms were filthy and not serviced regularly. It gives me pause to eat a restaurant if they don’t keep their bathrooms presentable. If the bathrooms are that gross, what does it say about the cleanliness of the kitchen and the rest of the restaurant? I liked the service and food, but I will not be back.

noisy small children, oblivious parents, and restaurant staff unwilling to intercede made this rather expensive dinner a less than pleasant experience. Hoping that next time is better and that parties with small kids (3 - 4 years old) are placed away from adult diners trying to relax and enjoy good sushi after a long day at work Staff refused to approach parents of noisy kids and did not offer to move us to a quieter table..truly unfortunate

Took my kids for their birthday dinner and we had a blast. Food was fantastic and the service was perfect. We all thoroughly enjoyed our Sushi. We tried 6 different rolls and all of them were awesome! Can't wait to visit again in the future!

There were some things we tried that were really very good and a couple of others that were okay. Starting with the best and working down: 1. The grilled black cod was amazing. Rich flavor. Perfectly grilled. 2. Zeppelin rolls. Very good. Fresh, well put together. Great flavor combination. 3. Salmon sashimi. A little fishy. Eh. 4. Same with the rolls. 5. Edamame. A little mushy and flavorless. Overcooked and not much salt. On the drink front, cocktails and wine were good. Had to send back a glass of wine because the glass itself was very soapy. Probably just got washed. Bottom line is that the food they call “premium” is very good. The regular menu items might be the castaways. Conclusion: We’d go back but there are other places we like better.

I made a dinner reservation for the sushi bar at 5:30. According to the restaurant website they start serving omakase at 6:30. I went early hoping to beat the rush. I was the only customer at the very small sushi bar on the second floor. From what I could tell the guys behind the counter were busy doing prep work. All of the fish was pre-sliced or pre-mixed. The waitperson came by to take a drink and then my food order. I asked if I should just tell one of the sushi chefs what I wanted or if I had to place my order through her. So I asked for the tempura fried soft shell crab and the special premium sushi platter. It took a while for the crab to come out and I never experienced soft shell crab in a Japanese restaurant prepared the way this was. I think it either had deep fried rice kernels or some type of breakfast cereal on the outside. Strange but it tasted okay. Not great but okay. The sushi platter came out with 11 pieces of nigiri and six pieces of sushi rolls. I think three pieces of the rolls were diced salmon and the other three diced tuna. The nigiri had decent sized slices of fish and most were came sauced. Whether or not nigiri is sauced by whoever prepared it tells me a lot about them and the restaurant. I also had two pieces each of o toro tuna and botan ebi. The same person prepared these, as well. No tempura fried heads of the ebi, though. As I said , the slices of fish were a good size and pretty fresh. Nothing memorable, good or bad. Watching what was getting prepared while sitting at the sushi bar makes me think that the majority of the customers just want rolls, not nigiri or sashimi or chirashi sushi. It’s an okay place but next time I will return to Gakyu.

Loved the sushi and service. The Gyu Donburi Bowl was a little lacking in salt and spice, but everything else was delicious. Loved the spacious outdoor patio. The Matcha Crepe Cake was great, but my eye is on the Strawberry Cheesecake for next time.

I didn't have high expectations--booked a table because we were going to be in the neighborhood--but was pleasantly surprised. You can find better sushi in DC, even at these prices, but you can get stuck with a lot worse and the service was flawless. If I were in the neighborhood again, I'd be happy to dine there again. Altogether we had a positive experience.

The sushi is fresh and presented nicely. The menu offers a wide variety of appetizers, sushi rolls, and sashimi options. The staff is polite and there are nice indoor and outdoor options for dining. Highly recommended!

Food and service was very good, but it took a very long time for dishes to come out. Understandably, it was a Friday evening and the server did an excellent job of accommodating us. Key is to order heavy on the appetizers when you place your initial drink order.

First time at Zeppelin and a birthday gift. The rock shrimp tempura appetizer was outstanding, as was the Zeppelin maki roll and the Chapling roll. They surprised us with an amazing birthday dessert which was other-worldly. Interesting and unusual flavors in the red bean ice cream and free tea cheesecake. The meal was a 10/10.
