The service here was incredible. Phillip was our server and bartender and he was beyond great. I told him early on that we were celebrating an anniversary and he took care of us the rest of the night!
Zeppelin was kind of disappointing. The sushi was fine but nothing special. The tempura was delicious and a good size. We were on the second floor. It was so hot, everyone was fanning themselves with menus. It was also very loud, which made for an uncomfortable dinner.
The food was delicious, I could taste that it was made of fresh quality ingredients. The service was very attentive and helpful. Good vegetarian options too!
Sushi was excellent and the karaoke was out of this world!
Obnoxiously loud. Staff did not know the menu and was unable to to educate a guest in our party with food allergies.
Celebrated my birthday here and had an amazing experience. I love sushi, but can’t say the same for my friends and I was so happy the menu catered to those who aren’t the biggest sushi fans. Everyone loved their meals and the cocktail selections as well. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and drinks and was just so helpful and kind. I would definitely return for the deliciously fresh food, great drinks, and wonderful service. By the way, the late night karaoke was the cherry on top of everything!
Friends and I recently had dinner here and loved it. The food and service are excellent. Great spot for a date!
Amazing all around! Would definitely recommend!
Would not recommend Zeppelins to anyone - the restaurant itself was warm, as if they had no AC in the 90+ DC heat. The service was poorly sequenced to take our orders and answer our questions. By far the worst part was the fish, all of the pieces were warm and oversized. It did not seem to even been sushi-grade fish, pieces were incredibly fatty to the point where it was inedible due to choking hazard. Very disappointing experience, will not return.
Tried Zeppelin on a whim for a yakitori fix. The restaurant felt out of place with a mix of overpriced bottles and okay, but not great yakitori, and sushi items. The mosquitos on the patio were bad, and became a distraction during the meal. We ordered 8 items and left hungry. Had we ordered 8 more we would have still been hungry. We ended up getting another dinner afterward.
The food was great but the hostess and service were not great or attentive.
Food took a long time to come
Waitress kept saying things were out of the menu but then they were sold out
We never got out entress
I had made a reservation for 3 people for 7:15pm. We got there and were told that our table would be outside, mind you it was 90 degrees, humid, and raining. We told them it was raining and we did not want to sit outside and instead of making an alternative suggestion to accommodate us, the hostess said “there are umbrellas at the tables”. We asked how long a table inside would be and they said 1 hour (even with out reservation).
After leaving our names and sitting at 3 open seats at the table we managed to get a table inside within 10-15 minutes. Our server was good, it took about 30 minutes to get our drinks after ordering them. The food was ok. Nothing had outstanding flavor, very bland and basic. I was expecting better quality for the price.
The upstairs was super loud, you pretty much had to yell to speak to others at the table you were sitting at. I will not recommend this place to others. If I do come back it will solely be to grab a drink at the bar.
Maybe Tom Sietsema dined at a Zeppelin in an alternate universe. We experienced uniformly mediocre food and comically bad service in an atmosphere reminiscent of a college bar (and not in a good way).
Great evening but the noise level ruins the setting upstairs. Couldn’t hear friends. Would not recommend for a date because of that. Everything about this place is great otherwise.
Great food and friendly service. Our waiter gave us some amazing recommendations. Definitely will be going back.
We enjoyed checking out Zeppelin! The nigiri and small plates were fantastic. The cocktails were very well balanced and tasty. We had a great server and a nice table on the upper floor. It was a Thursday night and it wasn't too crowded or noisy.
Third time is most definitely the charm for this re-designed restaurant space. The new ownership has done a masterful job with the menu, liquor and wine list and the service was phenomenal. A great addition to the neighborhood.
Food was impressive, sushi was stellar and I really appreciate the amount of variety, understanding it’s not easy to keep so many different fish on the menu. Having worked in a fine dining Japanese restaurant, I also want to mention how impressed I was by our server. I’ve had her the two times I’ve come so far, and she is by far one of the best servers I’ve encountered in DC. On point, knowledgeable, knows how to check in without being intrusive during the meal. Very good at anticipating needs and seeing if everything is enjoyable. Thoroughly enjoyed my time at Zeppelin.
The food was okay...we had the chef's selection for yakitori, and the skewers were tiny (shared between 3 people). I'm so glad we also got the scallion pancake with pork, or else we would have left starving. The skewers were good, but nothing I would return for. We also tried the shrimp and veggie tempura, which was good, but nothing special. atmosphere was cool, but the upstairs was pretty empty the whole time we were dining. Would only go back to Zeppelin to try the sushi, which we didn't have this time.
Bit pricy but worth the $$$ given location, quality of dishes and ambiance.
Great meal and lovely service!
Food was really phenomenal. I need to go back several times to try things we didn’t get to. We had a very nice and accommodating server. Noise wasn’t as bad as other reviews made it out to be at all. Drinks are unique and different- which can be good or bad depending on what you order.
Our waiter Joe was outstanding. Service overall was excellent and professional. Food was delicious!
Solid food, a little uneven. Lovely patio dining and nice ambience. Excellent service.
the service was incredibly slow and inattentive-- it took forever to put in orders, drink refills, and get the check, and probably added around 45 minutes to our visit just waiting for our server to come by (she was waiting nearly half the tables on our floor it seemed). they had only been open for 20 days I was told, so maybe they just need time to work out the kinks? maybe wishful thinking.
karaoke was fun though
The food was fantastic and waiter was great. However, the initial experience and dealing with the hostess was terrible. I had an 8pm reservation, showed up on time and was told by the hostess the only seats available were at the communal dining table. The hostess tried to explain that you can't reserver a table versus the communal table, as the restaurant treats them all the same. she should not explain how open tables in the restaurant were being held for reservations. I decided to look at what the communal table and spotted a number of empty tables in the dining room. I asked for my party to be seated at one of those tables, then host said he'd have to check and and see if they were reserved... to which I again had to press that I also had a reservation, and if the restaurant treated all the reservations the same, why could we not be seated at the table? Finally, after all this back and forth nonsense we were seated a table. There were a number of empty tables throughout the night, so fact that I had to argue with the host and hostess to get a table was ridiculous.
The fried food was just ok. And we ordered Nigiri, while the salmon seemed like good quality the tuna was sub par, too fatty to enjoy.
Everything about this place was great, highly recommend. Some of the best sushi in DC!
One guests dinner order was forgotten and served only after a reminder 30 minutes after serving others. A free rice bowl is what you do to make up for it?
Great first time! Our waiter was lovely and we hope to get them again when we're back!
We were able to finally snag a reservation here and ended up having mixed feelings. It was really loud since is it a small place. We did the omakase since we love sushi and were served cold miso soup with ice cold tofu in it. The selection of fish was standard but for the price, I was expecting more of a high end omakase. What saved the meal were the appetizers. If we go back, it will be for the few pieces of the omakase we enjoyed and the appetizers.
Really basic sushi. Nothing exciting. Drinks are good.
So I enjoyed my experience, but didn't find any differentiators. They immediately up-sell you to their fish selection, which is quite robust, but the portions and taste are what you would expect anywhere. I was disappointed by the ceviche (I'll get anywhere). It was high quality pieces of a fish with some onions and that was it.
I would have preferred sticking with the skewers, bowls, or apps but the draw to the fish was too strong and by the time we had completed that, we weren't full, but didn't want to push it either. I would go back for the rest of the menu for sure. The spot is awesome, service was friendly, and there's Godzilla out back on the patio.
Great service! Our server (Emma) was very friendly and informative. She made sure our orders were accurate and made great recommendations. The ebi/hotate yakitori was the best! Thanks for everything.
The food was delicious, karaoke was very fun, awesome atmosphere, and great service!
A bit pricey (as can sometimes be expected for Japanese), but the offerings are excellent.
Delicious sushi, yakitori and tempura. Beautiful space with gorgeous lighting fixtures.
I was drawn in by the awesome Godzilla mural on the outside wall. When you get inside, you find a very nice restaurant with excellent food, warm and friendly service, but also whimsy and fun. I'll be back for sure!
Freshest sushi I've had in DC in awhile - loved the Chef's Special!! Our server Phillip was personable and a huge help in explaining things to us! Also a surprisingly really great wine menu!
