About Zenkichi

Zenkichi quietly entered the scene in late 2006 in a then up and coming Williamsburg food scene. The unique cuisine and dining experience have had restaurant goers and critics catching on ever since.

The restaurant offers semi private tables for all of its customers and Tokyo-style Japanese cuisine. The focus is on small plates for sharing and tasting with sake. The menu emphasizes Omakase (chef's tasting menu) which changes every five weeks to incorporate the freshest ingredients of the season. The sake selection includes over 50 kinds of carefully chosen premium sake labels.

Zenkichi continues to evolve with a recently added garden. The space is inspired by a Japanese mountain retreat with a glass ceiling that incorporates two 50 year old trees. Which expands the seating space and adds a new dynamic to the already unique décor.

Tasty omakase menu! I brought my girlfriend here (she's obsessed with Japan and has visited many times) and she raved about how good and authentic it was. Wonderful place.

Everything was perfect.
I chose Zenkichi for a special occasion with my boyfriend and was not disappointed.

Atmosphere is very special with semi-private seating space and cosy lighting , With great jazz music in the background.

Food was incredible (tasting menu is definitiely worth it), with quality ingredients and a personal touch.

And above all the service is the best I have seen in nyc, low key, discrete but very careful.

This is a very cute spot with semi-private enclosed booths perfect for a date. You sit in very close quarters with your date so make sure you like them! :)

Food was outstanding but was not as private or romantic as we hoped. There were a lot of noisy tables around us and we were all extremely close to each other so i could clearly hear everyone's conversations. In addition, the restaurant was extremely hot and it wasnt until we were halfway through our dinner and we were sweating buckets that the AC was finally turned on.

We had the eight course tasting menu with sake pairing. It was fantastic! The waiter was very knowledgeable, the food was wonderful, courses perfectly portioned, and the sake pairing was spot on! Though the table was quite small we quickly realized we enjoyed the very intimate setting. It was all very sexy and delicious!

Magical!
Had no idea it was this special till we got in and were led to our private booth with it's own bamboo curtain. There are no words for the food-- but will try. Authentic Japanese, everything done with exquisite taste and attention to detail. And beyond delicious. Definitely a special occasion place, but we won't wait for that to go back!

We arrived at zenkichi and we were immediately greeted by an intimate ambience. The food was sub par and the serving sizes were small. If you want to pay for the ambience come on down but if you want to pay for food.....RUN!!

This was a let down. I was expecting real privacy and ambiance, but really I think it's set up in this way in order to squeeze as many people in as possible. Our server was great, the food was okay. I wish we went to Nobu or Bond street for the amount that we spent.

Zenkitchi was a wonderful night out - the food was delicious (we did the tasting menu and a sake pairing - I'm still dreaming of some of the courses. That miso cod!!), the ambiance was special and romantic, and the service was impeccable. Plus, we had told them it was an anniversary dinner, and they brought out a special happy anniversary dessert! I couldn't be happier with my choice of restaurants, and I look forward to going back.

Booths for 2 are very small and there is no sound protection in any ways. A person next to us kept on screaming for a present just received up to the point of us thinking we would leave and eventually shouting to command silence. No help from waiting staff. Apart from this edge case, you can hear any whisper anybody is making and this makes the place unfit for a romantic dinner. Overall the menu is not unforgettable, although products are good.
Rest of the scenery we saw walking through is very nice, almost awesome.

This was our third time eating at Zenkichi. In the past, we have adored the food and the service. The service remained excellent, but we felt the food was lacking. There wasn't much flavor in anything, and we left still hungry.

The restaurant is wonderful. The decoration is very unique - it has three levels and each table is private, separated by strings hanging from the ceiling. The servers are very professional, and helpful answering questions about the menu. My husband and I went for a special occasion on a recommendation by a friend. We had an array of small plates, from octopus cured in wasabi (delicious - spice by not spicey) to tuna sashimi to steak to a rice ball. It seems the restaurant put great care into each plate. There is also an extensive sake menu! Highly recommend for a nice night out.

Excellent restaurant. Extremely fresh fish. Seasoning extraordinary. Tapas like fare added up to a full meal--at $75/person, I would hope so. We were there for the seasonal mid-summer menu, which included the absolute creamiest tofu ever, delicious grilled cod, marinated fluke, simmered Japanese eggplant topped with Takanotsume red chili pepper, fresh campari tomato in chilled vegetable dashi broth, and...did I mention the sashimi? Best. Date. Spot. In. Brooklyn. Little booths for two with a drawn shade.

Köstliches, authentisches Essen. Das 8-Gang-Menü ist sehr empfehlenswert. Einzig die sehr engen Sitzkabinen und die nicht zum Ambiente passende Musik haben den Genuss etwas gemindert.

The food was wonderful. Service was great too. We were celebrating our anniversary and they surprised us with a nice message on our dessert!
The lighting on our table was a little too bright and the music a bit loud. Other than that, it was great!

love this place! it's a very dark, dim romantic setting. The seating is very intimate and small yet spacious. really gives you the feel of a zen relaxing environment. The dishes are super delicious and more of a small plate tasting compared to the traditional american restaurant. But give it a try with an open mind. You never know if you'll end up loving it as much as we did.

Zenkichi is a tiny Jewel. True authentic Japanese food similar to what one would find in Kyoto. Not the standard Sushi Sashimi tempura restaurant. udine & Tiny alcoves with a screen that's lowered to give you privacy. It's amazing experience. We will go back often

Awesome restaurant. I was there with my then girlfriend on the first date 5 years ago and we loved it. For our 5th anniversary, we decided to go there again. It was the same awesome food (we chose vegeatrian option as we are vegetarians now) and the wood was amazing, ambient romantic setting, truly one of a kind restaurant that I will recommend to everyone. Plus, it was nice surprise when they brought deserts with happy anniversary wording and candles. Thank you.
