The restaurant offers semi private tables for all of its customers and Tokyo-style Japanese cuisine. The focus is on small plates for sharing and tasting with sake. The menu emphasizes Omakase (chef's tasting menu) which changes every five weeks to incorporate the freshest ingredients of the season. The sake selection includes over 50 kinds of carefully chosen premium sake labels.
Zenkichi continues to evolve with a recently added garden. The space is inspired by a Japanese mountain retreat with a glass ceiling that incorporates two 50 year old trees. Which expands the seating space and adds a new dynamic to the already unique décor.
This was our second visit to Zenkichi and we love it. We did the Omakase again and it was just as amazing. There food, ambiance and service are all worth the cost, which is fairly reasonable. Plus, they noted this was my wife birthday and brought dessert with a lighted candle and birthday note, a perfect ending.
Zenkichi was a nice place, but not sure if it was worth the money since the experience had a few hiccups. The private booths were nice, but it was surprisingly easy to overhear the conversations from the booths next to you. Out of the omakase menu, the homemade tofu and black cod were amazing, and the other courses were nice, but not mind-blowing. One of us also had a dietary restriction and had to swap out some of the courses in the prix-fixe menu, and they messed up a couple times bringing us the right dishes. Overall though, it was a great ambiance and pretty good food, and the sake pairings were great!
Extremely romantic restaurant. All menu items tasted were excellent, and extremely flavorful.
Very romantic good sake good service ...very nice I liked it
Amazing. Just go
A beautiful environment, very intimate, and wonderfully fresh and inventive cuisine. Highly recommended.
If you are vegan, I would not recommend going, as it isn't worth the price. The ambiance is very special but, only go if you are eating the veg menu as is or getting the fish. The service was outstanding and a few dishes really blew my mind.... but $100 too much for us.
The cozy booths with bamboo shades make for a perfect romantic spot. We did the tasting menu with the sake pairing. The food was beautifully prepared and the service was outstanding. It was a bit pricey but a great experience.
Great Experience - awesome food and Sake - service was as good as it gets. Worth the trip to Brooklyn
Five of us went there for a 9pm dinner. We had a wonderful experience and weren't rushed out of there. Food was delicious and service was great. All of us would definitely return.
Just amazing. One of the best Japanese restaurant that I tried.
The omakase was superb - would definitely come back! Everything was so delicious and thoughtfully crafted and presented. Their sake menu was also really great. The seats are very private and was the perfect spot for celebrating my birthday with my boyfriend.
We have eaten a lot of food and really excited to try this place as it was recommended by my peer who is also in the food industry. For what we spent on the Omakase it wasn’t worth it. Standouts include the sashimi and miso. Had to send back the beef as it was not what you would expect from this type menu. I could not say hi there for a memorable dinner.
Lamb chop & duck salad was amazing. My server was wonderful as well.
We came a month ago for the first time for our anniversary and came back so soon because we couldn’t stop talking about the food, service, and ambiance. Top notch👍🏾
Unbelievable food. Unbelievably attentive service. I cannot recommend Zenkichi enough. It’s the perfect place for an intimate dinner.
Would absolutely return. Great food, service, ambiance.
Food and service were excellent. They only have sake though.
Went to celebrate my girlfriend’s recent certification and was not disappointed. Very intimate setting and ambience. You’re not alone but definitely separate from the other patrons. We did the summer Omakase and it was truly amazing. Waitress was also very helpful and nice.
Was craving decent Japanese food after my trip to Japan and Zenkichi has been on my list for a while. Omakase was amazingly good and gave me some kaiseki vibes (couple of their dishes). Authentic cuisine and the atmosphere was amazing. Only complaint is that YMMV for the vibes depending on who your fellow patrons are in the booths next to you or behind you (they may be obnoxiously loud), but that is not the fault of the restaurant. Would come here again definitely when the menu item changes based on the season. Thank you Zenkichi for such a great experience!
Excellent service and vegetarian options
It’s like going to Tokyo in Brooklyn. Amazing experience (again) and the food is unlike you’ll find at the other run-of-the-mill Japanese restaurants in the U.S. the sake selection is also excellent. Perfect for an intimate dinner with a special friend or for groups - just love the Japanese cuisine and be ready to try new things.
Ambience is outstanding. Food very good. Service was slow I’m guessing bc of lack of help.
Awesome gem hidden in a great part of Brooklyn. The ambiance really makes it the perfect spot for a private romantic date night. All of the a la Carter dishes were delicious and flavorful. I would definitely recommend
Very intimate. A bit over priced
The restaurant is amazing. We had the 8-course dinner with the sake pairing. It was our anniversary so we really appreciated how every table is essentially a private booth. Excellent food and presentation. Our waitress was very kind-hearted and patient. Each course was individually introduced and explained. We will definitely return.
Amazing food and ambiance!
Great price for omakase tasting menu! Fresh and delicious sushi with beautiful plating and ambiance! We also did the sake tasting which was lovely, entree was a bit lacking however out of all the 8 courses, but overall very good!
Looking tired , service was disappointing
We heard that the menu is seasonal. We must have picked the wrong season.
I went with my girlfriend for dinner. We ordered the omakaze. Only the sashimis had great taste. The rest of the pieces they brought, were below average. We ordered sake as well, and ended up paying 240 dollars for something that was really not worth it. The service was excellent though. The waitress was very nice and was on top of everything. It was just the food that was very bad and not worth the price.
Good restaurant, super private, great food, outstanding service
Love this place but service was painstakingly slow. It took over 3 hours for their Omekase menu. Was delicious but way too long waiting between courses. Our server apologized for the delay, it was not because of him, it seemed to be the kitchen that was so backed up.
Incredible experience. We felt as though we've been to Japan. Remarkable food with a remarkable setting. Just bummed they can't accommodate kids.
Delicious chef’s choice menu, we loved every course
Other than fancy seating (individual tables separated with store and wall) and the very low noise level the food is just OK. We have taken the menu (75 us/personne) and only the fish was memorable.
Visiting from the UK with no prior knowledge, just passing in the street, thought we would give it a try. Unassuming exterior, magical interior, excellent ambience, with attentive service and outstanding food. One of better Japanese restaurants outside of Japan.Serving Japanese cuisine as opposed to your high street "so called" Japanese food. Not the cheapest but well worth the visit. I recommend the 8 course " Spring Omakase" tasting menu with accompanying Sake.
Amazing experience, would definitely come back !!
