The restaurant offers semi private tables for all of its customers and Tokyo-style Japanese cuisine. The focus is on small plates for sharing and tasting with sake. The menu emphasizes Omakase (chef's tasting menu) which changes every five weeks to incorporate the freshest ingredients of the season. The sake selection includes over 50 kinds of carefully chosen premium sake labels.
Zenkichi continues to evolve with a recently added garden. The space is inspired by a Japanese mountain retreat with a glass ceiling that incorporates two 50 year old trees. Which expands the seating space and adds a new dynamic to the already unique décor.
Everything was delicious! One of the best dining experiences in NYC.
I took my fiancé here for her birthday and it was a very nice experience. The one on one seating with a cover was very creative. We enjoyed the button on the table that we would press whenever we wanted the waiter to come out. One problem we did have was that we had no idea what 90% or what we ate was ! The waiters were always there and on top of us but explained very poorly what we were eating. Overall nice spot, pretty pricey, yet worth the experience.
Cool place to eat. Enjoy the environment. Love the bamboo and the glass.
Great place for a romantic dinner! The "a la carte# menu was so good, maybe more attractive than the fixed menu. We had a great time.
We went for our anniversary and the whole night was so good! The food tastes great, the ambient was romantic, the service was impeccable.
I’ll go again, for a special night, that’s the place.
Amazing date place. Private cabins and Great Japanese food!
Terrific restaurant, absolutely perfect meal.
The only trouble is the clueless customer or couple who talk loudly behind section blinds/screens because the wonderful, intimate, seemingly isolated situation of each table feels misleadingly private.
My fiancé and I came for our anniversary and couldn’t have been happier. The Omakase meal was fantastic. We paired with the sake and had such a great time. The private booths are super intimate and the service was first class. Highly recommend Zenkichi for that special occasion!
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. It was phenomenal. They were very accommodating. The food was very authentic(I went to Japan). The price was high but you pay for what you get
Zenkichi is a truly unique Japanese dining experience. I went for my anniversary dinner and every moment was special, from the service to the ambiance to the incredible food. Couldn't recommend Zenkichi more highly! Thank you
Overall very good. Be great if they play some authentic classic Japanese music rather than jazz which is quite put if place.
Amazing! Food and ambience were wonderful. Works for a girls night out and a date!
Consistently fantastic rotating seasonal menu. Omakase menu and sake pairing is the way to go. Always loved the privacy of the booths with bamboo screens and the knowledgeable servers. 4th trip here, definitely not the last.
Wonderful, authentic experience. We opted for a la Carte and got 6 dishes, plus a miso soup each. It was perfect - everything was outstanding. Service was attentive and setting was romantic and intimate. It was quite expensive but we were prepared for that. Only alcoholic drinks were sake (extensive list) and beer. Suited us but may not suit all. Wouldn’t hesitate to return on next visit.
The 8 plate tasting menu, was sensational, as was the service.
The first thing that WOWed me was the interior.
I order the 8 course tasting menu and I wish I hadn't snacked beforehand. I enjoyed 99% of everything that came out. The service was impeccable, our waiter gave a detailed explanation of everything.
Would 100% recommend this place.
Very legitimate Japanese food with delicate cooking and great prices. Cozy booth seating.
Cool place to take ur date the food was good 2 definitely there’s certain things that can be improved on the service was ok I guess but overall good
Love the romantic, tiny private tables for two. Also good for groups! Excellent service - like being transported to Japan.
A very intimate setting with a fantastic tasting menu, great for dates or anniversaries. My husband and I loved it and were very impressed, looking forward to coming back again!
Really great experience at Zenkichi. Amazing service and delicious food for a reason able price. Great for an anniversary. Would recommend!
Intimate romantic environment and small but tasty Japanese dishes.
Great tasting menus and attention. We had a lovely time. The dishes was absolutely tasty. We definitely will come back.
Amazing experience : delicious food and lovely atmosphere
This dining experience was seriously on point. My favorite dishes include:
1) lamb chops
2) spicy cod roe rice ball
3) cod fish
Just thinking of this meal is making me drool. Will be back soon!
Amazing...no other words! Just amazing! This place is the ultimate dining experience in Brooklyn! An absolute must for anyone looking for a truly unique dining experience.
Wonderful dining experience for my husbands birthday. Beautiful setting and seating arrangements for a romantic vibe. This place is what I was looking for and more. We will definitely come back. My husband has already been bragging about how great of an experience we had.
We booked a table for 4 based on the reviews we read and the hype the restaurant has received over the years. The setting is intimate and the staff friendly. Our experience was unfortunately very disappointing when it came to the food itself. Especially the sashimi was flavorless and not fresh. When the bill came we complained about our experience as the charge did not reflect the quality of the meal. The manager came in and we found out that the chef that was responsible for the success of the restaurant was no longer there. Bad luck for us.
Lovely restaurant. We tried the Omakase tasting menu and the basic sake flight, plus a few glasses. Everything was fantastic. Our server was Kei and he was great! I put in the reservation notes that it was my date's birthday and he put a candle in the dessert course with origami cranes and a card on the plate. It was very sweet.
The food was amazing and the service impeccable. I found the ambience to be a little less nice than pictured on their web site. The lighting in the booths felt dingy and unsettling - almost like interrogation lighting - and the space had kind of a campy theme-park feel with the reconstruction of a bamboo-forest. However, that could also be seen as charming for some. I would definitely recommend it for the food and for the unique experience.
Great place for a romantic dinner date with your significant other.
If you are looking for exceptional Japanese cuisine that outside of the "traditional" spectrum in America, then you would enjoy Zenkichi!
I would not do the 8 course meal at least what was on it when I went
The food, though different was really good. The privacy and ambiance of the restaurant was really cool to experience. The waiter was super nice and helpful in telling us what we were eating. The overall experience of the restaurant was just awesome. I wanted to do something special for my mom and it was the perfect restaurant. It can have a romantic vibe to it, but it can also offer the elegant feel and that's what i wanted.
Food tastes like fast food take out. I was extremely disappointed. Not worth the money at all.
Food was good as was the service. Quiet, private and calm atmosphere. Good for quiet dinners, dates and small groups. Very uniquely decorated. This was a great find!!
Wonderful food and service
So great! Very different than other Japanese/sushi restaurants and the privacy was very appealing but did not impact the quality of service or the friendliness of our server. Awesome time.
Absolutely loved the experience of the restaurant. After reading a review on Tripadvisor I knew I had to try it, was a great pick for a date with my partner with amazing food and ambiance. Highly recommend.
