Very friendly and wam service. Staff really knows the menu and give great recommendations. We had three different entrees...pork chop, lamb stew, and the seafood stew. All were delicious. The hot chocolate dessert was amazing! Great atmosphere, comfortable and easy and relaxing.
Good, fairly traditional French food. Homey setting with pleasant service. Plenty of reasonably priced options on wine list. Main dishes were a little pricey for a casual bistro. They don't accept tips and bake the cost of paying their waitstaff more into the food, which explains some of it, but I think they may be marking things up just a bit extra beyond that. Overall great place to go when you're in Cole Valley.
We had an excellent table, but near the door which can get a bit noisy.
Food was fine in all areas and the wine list was good.
Service was cheerful and we felt relaxed and unhurried.
Totally enjoyable dining.
Great to go with friends. Fun place.
Zazie provides a superb take on French cuisine with a California twist, nestled in the Cole Valley neighborhood: Classic dishes, intimate setting, nice indoor and outdoor seating (the nice back patio even works when its chilly out), and the wait staff is great, and justifiably so, as the management treats them well and provides living wages and health care thru a fixed tip system included in the price of your meal.
The dishes can be wonderfully rich, generous and filling, so be careful (or don't be!). My partner and I shared a meal on our last visit, as we often do, and started with the homemade pate - rich, flavorful and superb creamy texture served on crunch toast over a bed of dressed lettuce. We probably could have stopped there and added with one of their tasty salads or sides then dessert. Instead we ventured into their seafood stew (the French name escapes me) which was simply fantastic, dense with salmon, shellfish, potatoes, leeks and flavored expertly, and rich rich rich! Also shared their lemon spring pasta with bacon, which was also wonderful, buttery and sublime. And the serving was generous, so we brought some home.
The desserts are all fantastic. We skirted the chocolate ones (though they are highly recommend) to try the fruit crumble with ice cream. It hit the spot with tart fruit offset by the sweet cream. The crumble, resting on the bottom of the dish, not the top, was a tad too dense/hard, but the flavors were good.
Complemented by quality glasses of S. Blanc and Pinot, we left happy. Hope you do too!
Parking in this neighborhood is difficult and food was pricier than our usual dinner out, but everything else---food, service, ambiance was great. If we had wanted what was on the prix fixe menu, we would have saved some money, but other items sounded much more appealing.
For us, this will be a special, once-in-a-while, place, not a regular stop.
We came with high expectations, and they were exceeded.
Excellent fresh food, all prepped well, everything cooked just right, moderate portions, flavorful, top shelf ingredients, wide variety. First time there; we will return.
Excellent dinner! Always great service! They served my friend champagne for her bday celebration. Would always recommend.
I’ve been going to Zazie since 2007. It’s delicious, friendly, reasonably priced for SF, and charming. They’re surprisingly kid friendly too. Never had a bad meal. I often take my folks when they visit. It’s a good crowd pleaser where everyone can enjoy— different enough not to feel dated with being too out there and pretentious. The staff always is helpful and competent and knows their stuff too.
Was great to bring my mom when she was in town. From the appetizer to the dessert, everything was mouth wateringly delicious. Will recommend!
Zazies Starter (e.g. Pâté de Volaill, Mussels Marinières ) are delicious. Do recommend.
Entrées is reasonably good.
We had a great first dinner here, served by a lovely waitress who could not have been more welcoming and fun and no-pressure-patient with our staying till close. We loved the comfortable, casual seating for fine French fare. We will definitely go back.
The staff is welcoming and the service is excellent. The food is consistently very good and I appreciate the no tip policy, giving all the staff a living wage. Best value and a great neighborhood hangout.
Great experience all around, as always. One of our favorite spots!
Another excellent dinner at our favorite neighborhood institution known as Zazie. From service that is truly par-excellence (I’d even say one of the best in the city), to cuisine that rivals the 'Michelin star’-studded spots, Zazie is one of the best values in town. Thanks again!
Great food. Great service.
As always, the food was fantastic, the service was impeccable and fun, and ambiance is warm and inviting, and it feels almost like we're back in France. If we're coming to San Francisco from San Jose, then for sure we'll also make a reservation at Zazie.
Wonderful Zazie....! always a great meal, enhanced by their great staff.
First time here in a couple years, and disappointed in the food. Such a nice neighborhood place, good atmosphere, and menu has classic bistro food. There were 5 of us. One person had hamburger which was fine but nothing special, and vegetarian was very happy with polenta main dish. But the coq au vin had almost no sauce (should not be served on pasta!) and wasn't very tasty, and the salmon was very disappointing, again just not flavorful; and the parsnip puree is definitely a mistake; doesn't pair well with the salmon, and was totally bland. The brussel sprouts with the salmon were good. We ordered charcuterie and cheese boards as appetizers; nothing special, and both the house paté and the salmon mash ("rilettes") were too bland, lacking flavor and character. Wine list is fine. Service friendly and nice. What has happened to the food in this place??
This has been our go-to for small family gatherings for 10 years! We are never disappointed!! Love Zazie!
Zazie is a true gem and it captures the real essence of the spirit of San Francisco. It is one of those very special neighborhood restaurants. Going there is like taking a trip and traveling abroad. The food is excellent and the service very friendly and good
My mom and I first discovered Zazie when I had just moved to San Francisco. We instantly loved it! The staff is kind, friendly, and inviting. The food is incredible--try the Baked Hot Chocolate dessert! We go to Zazie every time my mom comes to visit--we love it!
Am a very frequent Zazie patron, usually for brunch. Went Sunday night with a friend and her significant other, who had never been to Zazie. We all LOVED it.....everything was pure perfection. The Zazie servers are wonderful: friendly, knowledgeable and super smart.
From start to finish, one of the most enjoyable meals we’ve ever had. Every dish was memorable, from the first courses of chicken liver on toasted bread and a beet and avocado salad to main courses of beef bourguignon and a fish stew. And the baked hot chocolate dessert is a truly decadent way to end the meal. The service was excellent without being formal or fussy. We will definitely be coming back!
Love that this restaurant accounts for their staff benefits and pay in the menu pricing so is proud to be tip free!
We have had consistently good luck at Zazie. The staff are wonderful, as is the food and atmosphere.
Zazie was perfect for a romantic, affordable evening with great ambiance, food and excellent service.
