What Insiders Are Saying
Another Jose Andres spot with solid tapas. Head to Zaytinya for a power lunch that doesn’t feel like a power lunch.
Good food but busy and noisy restaurant space.
Everything was delicious, service outstanding & one party arrived late but we were not rushed. So appreciated.
As always the service and food were outstanding. They never disappoint, the servers keep the complimentary bread replenished and even wipe the table in preparation for desert. I highly recommend the brussel sprout appetizers. All around stars. If you go doing the lunch hour the special is awesome, with a nice desert at the end.
Simple lunch, although I wish I had time for the multi course menu.
The waitress was kinda not friendly. It was my husband’s birthday. We wanted memories of the evening and we were celebrating with our close friends. When we requested her to take a picture, she seemed to resent wasting her time.
We did not get seated until 30 minutes after our reservation time. The service was terrible, but the food was great! Will rethink before returning.
Delicious food with a menu that gets you to try dishes you may not find in other restaurants. Our server was excellent.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about our server, JuVaughan. Not only was he the consummate professional, but he was also delightful and very kind, even tracking down a taxi for us when it was time to leave. We are so fortunate that he took such good care of us today. Can’t wait to come back.
Recommend: go for lunch, noise level at dinner terrible. Good food, meat dishes were salty. Excellent Baba Ghanoush
My department held our holiday dinner at Zaytinya this year. They were very accommodating to our group of 9 and gave us a great table tucked away by a window, away from the main hustle and bustle in the dining room on a Caps game night. We enjoyed all of the food, (especially the octopus!) and our server was most helpful in recommending dishes to share. Although our group has a range of dietary restrictions, everyone found plenty to eat.
Went for an impromptu birthday lunch with a few girlfriends. The prix fixe lunch menu is a great deal ($25 for 4 dishes) especially if you’re up for sharing. We ended up ordering one of the meals, and then had each other person at the table order 1 mezzo of her choice. Perfect light ish lunch and the total bill was less than $60 for four. You could barely do fast food for that! It was quite loud and as we left, we realized it would have actually been much easier to hold a conversation in the bar area. Live and learn.
Food and service was great. Noise level high and conversation was difficult.
Only one night in DC? Go to Zaytinya. It's Grrrrrreat! Small plates for sharing at a table for 2 or 4. I'm giving it 5 stars for food because I think is it in the top tier of the top tier of DC restaurants.
We were running late due to a church activity. I called and they held my table. Wonderful service on a busy Sunday evening! Food and service were exceptional as well.
Fantastic experience all around!
Staff very helpful. Food was inventive and excellent
I've been there for the first time last Saturday. I was bluffed by the cuisine, the choice of dishes and flavors. The whole experience was just astonishing. I don't recall having eaten so well from the first to the last dish. I will go back for sure!
The food was nothing as expected, thchicken was dry and burnt and they took off the bill. The rest of the food was ok.
Sat us in patio furniture in front of the kitchen which was very small. Should not be allowing reservations if don't have the seating capacity. Service was good which helped.
Delicious! We've been there before. Always great experience
Lots of fun dishes to choose from on the menu. The charred brussels sprouts were absolutely yummy though not sure how they fit in with the sort of meze, mediterrenean, middle eastern concept. this is a reasonably priced restaurant for where it is. We were seated upstairs - despite earlier reservation- and did not enjoy the ambiance there. it felt a bit like an afterthought.
Have lived 10 years in Amman, Jordan and while Zaytinya’s I would consider “fusion” mezzo, it’s excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Food was served quickly, Maggi our server was excellent and friendly, if I have any complaint it would be good to have warned us on some our orders that not everyone at our table would get a taste of each dish. We were 5 people but the kibbeh only came in 4 pieces. The wow dish for me was the fish. Succulent,
Go here. The food is amazing!! Excellent service!!!
Zaytinya offered delicious food options that were great for sharing with a large group. However, the service unmatched the quality of food. Our table was seated over an hour after our reservation and once seated the staff was rushed and didn't offer the level of hospitality you would expect for a restaurant of a renowned chef.
one of my favorite restaurants I was excited to bring a friend too. We saw our waitress once every 45 minutes so I had to ask other waiters for assistance. Our food was delivered to the wrong table and bussers kept trying to take our plates because we didn't have food in front of us. I kept explaining the situation and finally our waitress came and reordered the food. We weren't charged for the missing items though which was kind. I was very let down because I had hyped this restaurant up to my friend so much and despite the food being wonderful, the poor experience really was such a disappointment.
We had to wait 45 minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation. The service was horrible, extremely slow and rude.
Long time to not go to Zaytinya, and we discover that have better menu, keeping the old time favorites. Please, do a reservation to go there unless you want to wait for long.
We tried four tapas and it was good enough for 2 people. Vegetarian dishes are a must! Eggplant is delicious!
Excellent regional food and wine. Made you feel like you were dining in the Levant except for the modern surroundings. Partition between the bar and dining tables let the crowd party while diners enjoyed a more moderate noise level. Valet parking was most helpful at a reasonable price.
We Love Zaytinya!!! Never miss a lunch or dinner there when we are visiting DC!!!💕
Both my niece and I enjoyed our extended lunch last week. Our server was attentive and also allowed us time to talk, eat, visit. The food was, as expected, delicious... I need to remember to order fewer selections as we simply could not eat all our food. I'll return of course, and my visiting niece was happy as well.
Good stuff our waiter was good.
I return to Zaytinya again and again. I love this place!
Worst birthday lunch ever! Our waiter was an airhead and ignored us. We only got 2 of 3 entrees ordered and one of them was completely tasteless. Can't say we will be back anytime soon.
The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. We enjoyed the evening and look forward to returning.
My husband and I dined at Zaytinya for my birthday this week. We've done so before because I have food allergies and can always leave happy after dining at Zaytinya. I really want to give a special shout out to Valeria Linares, who greeted us so warmly and apologized for a very slight wait (we were early-no apology necessary). She also checked on us several times during the evening to make sure everything was going well. So gracious! Danielle Scott (another shout-out!) was truly our server with the mostest! Again, a very warm greeting-knew I had food allergies and addressed them right away. We did have the allergen menu but garlic and onion allergies do not always show up and she checked every dish with the chef. The chef made some amazing dishes-I asked Danielle just to let the chef make what she wanted-except lamb. The smoked octopus over fava bean puree was incredible and the pork belly with black eyed peas another wonderful treat. Can't wait to return and thank you to the staff for such a great birthday dinner.
Our server, Renee, was terrific - very friendly, patient, and helpful. The Brussels sprouts (not the raw ones) were amazing, and the hazelnut tartufo with chocolate ice cream might be my favorite dessert ever.
So good I went back for lunch in the same week. Small plates , wonderful food. Great service. Highly recommend for all.
Outstanding as always. Great Greek Sav Blanc. Tried a new dish - lamb shoulder. Really excellent. Try the Cauliflower Tiganites. Service was steady as usual. A consistently good restaurant in Penn Quarter. If you have not tried Z you must put it on your list!
The meat dishes are really bad and not worth the price. The vegetable dishes are very good. Service does not justify the price or the place. The waiter was subtly rude and condescending
This restaurant has an innovative twist on Turkish/Mediterranean cuisine. Some of the dishes were outstanding. I wish our waitress took a bit a little the time understanding the dishes and explaining them as it did the chef and the kitchen staff designing and executing them. She was totally uninformed and uninterested. Service needs more attention and better training. Otherwise, the place will lose customers.
