What Insiders Are Saying
Another Jose Andres spot with solid tapas. Head to Zaytinya for a power lunch that doesn’t feel like a power lunch.
We had been once before on a whim and enjoyed ourselves enough to make a point of returning when we came back to the city.
It was just wonderful in every way. We had lots of dishes and all were spot on. Food was terrific—scallops were a particular highlight; drinks were great, and service attentive, prompt but not intrusive. At the end of the meal they brought out a complimentary dessert that was fabulous, I guess because when I booked I told them this was our anniversary celebration trip to DC? At any rate, we will return and will recommend Zatinya to all the folks we know.
Consistently fantastic food and service. Always a superb dining experience!
Very delicious Mediterranean cuisine. Even better than what I got in Turkey.
I visited Zaytinya for the first time ~4 years ago and it was a fantastic experience: The food was great and the restaurant was clean and well maintained. I was so excited to visit again while in DC.
We went for a 1:30 lunch during this trip and the experience was just ok. The restaurant felt dirty and worn and only some of the food was well prepared. We sat down at our table and it was sticky and the water glasses were filthy. We ordered the brussel sprouts (delicious!), the seared haloumi (also delicious!) a lamb gyro (mediocre at best) and the lamb tongue (medicore). The fries that came with the lamb gyro were cold and greasy and a very small portion. The cocktails were tasty but overly priced for what they were. Finally, we had 3 different waiters during lunch and they clearly weren't communicating with one another. The restaurant needs to be cleaned and freshened up, and some of the food could use more attention to details. I'm a fan of Jose Andreas' restaurants, but this wasn't a good experience and I wouldn't visit again. I would, however, recommend China Chilcano!
One of the best restaurants in DC. Food is always fantastic and a good location. Can’t wait to get back again.
This is a restaurant I had been to several times, and as always, it was fantastic! Our server was helpful with ideas and suggestions, but she was not intrusive. The food was delicious, and the servings, even for being small plates, were quite filling. We were running late for our reservation (we went the day the Wilson Bridge closed) and it was very hard to get ahold of someone on the phone. We tried for about an hour to call and there was no answer until 5 minutes before our reservation. They were accomodating, but we felt bad that we couldn't let them know earlier.
Work team meeting. Group had fun and enjoyed food. Place is too noisy to have a conversation. Small plates approach and overall good food.
Always Love Zaytinya, EXCEPT this time. The food was good, but not to the level it normally is. Our service left a lot to be desired, long waits for bread, drinks, lots of time in between tapas we ordered. Some tapas came out cold, Waiter didnt even ask us for dessert and brought the check. We were celebrating a very special occasion. For a $300 bill I would expect a better experience.
Very noisy. Late to be seated, however the hosts were very gracious about the delay
Great location in D.C. If you are visiting the city, dinner at this popular place is great and gives you plenty of time to walk around the Mall area afterwards. It’s noisy so I would not advise this restaurant for a business meeting. Food is tapas style and is ordered to cook. Have patience and the wait it worth it. Very reasonable prices.
Hands down one of the best experiences we have had in D.C. The food, the service and the wine were all amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant.
We are never disappointed when we dine at Zaytinya. The food is uniformly excellent and the wait staff always helpful. Come and enjoy!
All was good except for a very persistent waiter who couldn't seem to accept that we were not going to be ordering any alcoholic drinks.
Excellent food and service as always. If you are a senior, however, and are going for lunch, reserve for 11:00am because by 12:00 noon the place will be so loud and the background noise so intense that you will not be able to hear any conversation at your table. ask for a quiet table away from the kitchen doors, the bar and especially the waiters station. Other than that, it is my favorite restaurant and I love going there.
Overall okay, not great. Ran out of an ingredient for a drink I wanted. Cauliflower was oily and not seasoned well...blah. The Bronzino fish was blah as well. My husband said the grilled octopus was good but the portion and look of it was rather sad. Service good. Took me an hour to decide where to eat this night and chose based on reviews but was disappointed.
Even with a reservation, we had to wait 15 minutes before our table was ready. Then for another 10 minutes we could not get our waiter's attention. After we ordered, everything came out together within 15 minutes. Thus, some things were already cooled off by the time we got to it. The food was okay, but was not satisfying.
Overall feels like Jose Andres is a sold out restaurateur who cares more about being on TV or having a restaurant empire, than providing good food to patrons.
The food was really good and our server was excellent. We needed to eat somewhat quickly to make the U2 concert and we were accommodated. The wine was excellent-all Greek. The staff in general from front door to bar to wait staff are excellent and very nice. Would definitely go again.
The food was fun and delicious. The service was friendly, informative and attentive. Overall, it was a wonderful experience! We tried the Chef's experience and got to try 12 different dishes plus two dessert. It was definitely worth the money.
As always the food from Jose Andres is top notch. The food is amazing no matter what you ask. I recommend the chicken soup as a must do. The menu's for lunch and the testing menu is a LOT of food, perhaps for 1 lunch 2 people can eat. The restaurant may consider to serve smaller portions. But you can not miss the opportunity to eat here!
The strange thing restaurant is that it requires a lot of cleaning, even the DVDs and stuff in the front is full of dust. the management requires to put attention to cleaning, condition of chairs, tables. Very surprised to see a TFG restaurant on these conditions. Again this is not a condition that I have ever see in any of the TFG group restaurants so I was surprised to see that
Been to Zaytinya a few times and today was just as good as before. We had a few of the dips, cauliflower, spanakopita, brussel sprouts, fried cheese, catfish, shrimp and a few others. The spanakopita and shrimp really stood out. Definitely recommend!
We were seated promptly and the service was quick. Rachael was our server and she was magnificent.
Good food. Nice atmosphere with outdoor seating available. Great location 1 block from Capital One Center and across the street from National Portrait Gallery. Service was not bad but not memorable. 3 to 4 dishes per person recommended.
Zaytinya is my favorite Jose Andres restaurant (although they are all terrific). The food is outstanding, lovely decor, knowledgable and friendly staff, good strong cocktails. Be sure to order the Htipiti spread - our favorite!
Went here for Father's Day lunch and it was fantastic! The brussel sprouts are to die for !
Chef's tasting menu was a fabulous way to be introduced to a variety of flavors & preparations. Would go back if time permitted....only in DC for a brief visit.
The food is wonderful! We had the lunch special and everything was great. There actually was too much food.
Excellent food, great ambiance and great location
Very good restaurant. Loved the small plates to share. Service is attentive.
As always delicious food and delicious wine!
Food was excellent, server spaced the dishes out so we were not overwhelmed at any one time.
Disappointed that they seated us near an outdoor air handling unit which was very noisy. Also menu descriptions lacked key information. I hate dill, so avoided any dish on the menu with dill, only to have a dish arrived covered in dill. Food should be as described on the menu.
Delicious and fun.
We would have liked to have the tapas scattered through a period of time and not all at the same time. When we got to some they were cold already
We always enjoy eating here. I like the variety of various dishes and the constant supply of fresh warm pita makes for a special experience. Also, it’s a pleasure to support Jose Andres.
Food and cocktails were amazing! Great ambience! We went to celebrate two 21st bdays and it was very festive and fun to share lots of small plates.
loved eating outdoors where the noise level was low and the air was pleasantly warm. wonderful service.
Always great food and atmosphere
Authentic Greek and Turkish cuisine. The oysters and branzino had exquisite flavor, and excellent presentation.
My favorite restaurant in DC. I don't get there very often unfortunately, but sure to try to get in (and sit outside if weather permits) when I am in DC. The food is light, original and extremely tasty. We had a great Lebanese Sauvignon Blanc with the meal. 3 persons with wine for $170 including tip is really reasonable considering the quality of the meal.
Really enjoyed the food and scene was very interesting.
