I’ve been to Zaytinya many times, and I love it. On this particular occasion, the service was very slow. Three requests to get a glass of water. Three requests to get some bread. Half an hour without a visit from the wait staff. To be fair, there were extenuating circumstances. Zaytinya was hosting some office holiday parties, and the place was mobbed.
I love going to Zaytinya, the ambience is nice and food is great!!
Excellent as usual. Friends from out of town enjoyed too.
It took a little while for our server to come see us but he had a ton of tables. It wasn't just our table that had a bit of a wait. We did get water and bread quickly. Once we ordered (2 vegetarian dishes, one seafood, one meat), our dishes came out quickly and they were delicious. We didn't have any problems getting our check either when we were ready to go. Given the the location of the restaurant and it's proximity to the ongoing holiday market in DC, I didn't complain at all. The quality of the food was equal to that of Jose's other restaurants (Jaleo, Oyamel, China Chilcano) . I'll definitely return.
An elegant and classy place sure to impress.
My favorite restaurant in DC!
Amazing Turkish food, great wine selection. We got chef's choice, it was great!
It was very crowded but still a great experience!
Couldn’t hear anyone talk
My first experience. I loved the food, but the noise level was a bit much for me. I will definitely visit again.
Food is always excellent and consistent. Service was a little slow this time, not as many servers coming around but our server was nice and supportive.
Food was over the top excellent. Our server, from Egypt, she was wonderful and suggested the chef selection...it was soooo much food. The only not great service was the host. We had reservations. Still had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. She was rude in general, never smiled nor gave us proper instructions when we were seated.
Overall 4/5 experience just because of the host.
Best small plates ever. So fresh and well done! Wait staff worked as a well oiled team.
Great food and experience but this place is LOUD. Hard to carry on a conversation
Outstanding food and service. We make special trips into DC just for Zaytinya'a.
It was an excellent meal. I particularly liked the way the desk, when I asked for a silly candle in a cake to celebrate a birthday, solved the problem. They inserted two candles in the Turkish delight instead so my son and I could be merry about his natal day in the low-key fashion which we prefer.
I’m vegetarian and they have lots of tasty vegetarian dishes.
great food. but Way too LOUD to talk with my friends!
Outstanding food and service nice atmosphere on the loud side
Good ambiance but I was expecting more based on the super reputation of the restaurant.
Food was disappointing. I have been to many Mediterranean restaurants before. The food-except the bread and the desert was not very tasteful and some plates were preprepared and it was obvious. The hummus was dry at the surface.
I am sure with a few improvement touches this could be turned around big time.
Food was excellent! Could have used a bigger table for our group of 7. Busy for a Tues night.
The food was excellent, but the service was lacking. My friend and I ordered the four-course lunch, and it took 1 1/2 hours for it to be served. Our waiter didn't check on us except when we flagged him down. In fairness, he had a large table upstairs, so he was frantically busy. But, we had to ask for more water, for a refill of iced tea and for our dessert (the fourth course). The waiter gave us a "long wait" discount, but it's too bad the service was problematic, because the food was excellent! The brussel sprouts, the hummus, the yogurt and apricot dessert...all fantastic!
We had a fabulous experience at Zaytinya! The food was exquisite without losing authenticity. All of my favorite vegetarian dishes were available and we really liked the lunch mezze menu for $25. The service was intentional and we never felt unattended. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
Hair in the soup
Always wonderful. Small plates shared with the whole table. Lively night the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but still easy to carry on a conversation.
Tried this restaurant a few times now thinking it would be better next time. I shall not be going again.
The only negative is the darn small plate concept. You can try more things but they don’t equate to an entree and I was hungry. And it gets expensive. Plus there is no logic to the delivery of the items ordered, some of which were cold. That said, most of our plates were delicious. And the apricot desert was spectacular!
We were at Zaytinya for the first time in years a month ago and it was fabulous. The food was delicious, service friendly and impeccable. So we went again. It was very busy the second time, so we made allowances, but we didn't even get asked for water for 10 minutes, and the hot bread that comes with the oil took 15. The lamb kebab was overcooked, but the rest of the food was as good as the first time.
When I am entertaining, it is hard to know everyone's food preference. I have had multiple, positive experiences at Zaytinya. The experience is reliably consistent and the food is interesting but not weird for those who have not eaten there before. Thanks for keeping it fresh.
Had the best lunch with friends here. The mezze lunch menu is great. Also got a bonus Turkish coffee reading.
Sort of a corporate-y facade, but the place is great. 2 out of 3 cocktails were excellent - the 3pm and the gin/cucumber-y one. The margarita was way too sweet, but the za'atar foam was really interesting! Service was pretty good, the food was great - especially the lamb baharat and the adana kebab, but we also had the baba ghanouge and labneh (both excellent), the turkish style pastirma (pretty good), the brussels sprouts (!), the bantijan (good), and the salmon (wasn't seared, was fully cooked through). We never received the persian yogurt soup, so they took that off the bill, and I'm now realizing we never received the sabzi salad either :/ aside from that - it was all good, and I'd go again.
Great food and service. The food recommendations were also on point.
Service was slow at first, then waiters changed for some reason and it was fine.
Delicious cocktails and small plates. I wish there were more gluten free options and the restaurant was busy so the service was pretty slow but overall we had a really positive experience.
We were out for the afternoon in DC with visiting family and friends and this was the perfect tapas meal. Lots of plates came and went and all were delicious. I would say that to some this is impressive but not if you have died before. It is as it always is, on point, professional and flavorful
Our waiter Mohammed was very attentive and took great care of us.
Family get-together- over thanksgiving. Loved everything. The crowd made service difficult - we had to wait for bread a few times while our dips sat on the table looking delicious. The bar was out of ingredients for the cocktail I ordered, but the food had already come. The wine was fine. The round table was perfect for 6 of us to talk. I’m looking forward to returning.
We love the variety of the small plates at this delicious Mediterranean restaurant. The plates are small but the Chef’s heart is HUGE. One of my favorite restaurants
Ambiance was grest however the main server wss regulara and the food not that great- its a small plate restaurant ti share concept but they brought everything as once and it was a mess and not well explained.
Service was terrible. Waitress forgot our drink order. Then forgot about us. Had to hail get down for the check.
Wonderful food and evening. Thank you.
Superb experience at Zaytinya on Thanksgiving eve! Grandparents, parents and baby. We were seated at a booth with infant seat out of the flow of traffic, which was perfect. When we asked about the roast lamb, our waiter volunteered that we might be able to order a half portion, since the full portion was for 8 or more people. We ordered the lamb immediately as it would take thirty minutes to finish. Meanwhile the appetizers began to arrive, along with drinks. The lamb and fixings arrived in good time; we finished with two desserts to share, a feast!
