Zaytinya Ratings and Reviews
My son and I stopped in for a bite and drinks before a Washinton Ballet performance. The place is beautifully designed, the drinks were fun and creative and they happily accommodated our vegan diet with very tasty small plates. Look forward to going again soon.
Zaytinya has amazing food. My colleague ordered the Classic Zaytinya Experience and I had the Chef Experience and we shared all of the plates that came out. I would recommend if this is your first time just sharing one of these (the Chef's Experience was more exotic). It was too much for the two of us, but it was all amazing. I also saw the lamb shanks, and while I did not try them they looked tender and delicious.
I dined here with a dear friend with whom I definitely didn't mind sharing plates. We both started with salads. She had the Fattoush and I had the Beet Salata. Both were fresh and well-balanced. We then tried the Htipiti spread, Mushroom Couscous, Octopus Santorini, Shish Taouk, Knisa Lamb Chops and for dessert a dish that consisted of ice cream, a crisp shell, apples and other ingredients I couldn't name. The spread was wonderful on the pita bread that was constantly replenished. We had to try the octopus since everyone raved about it in their reviews. They didn't lie! It was so fresh and tender. The Shish Taouk was also tender and good but I wanted something other than a kebab. I am a huge fan of lamb chops and they did not disappoint in flavor or otherwise. I was so grateful that my friend doesn't like lamb chops! Yay me!! My least favorite dish was the couscous because I hate peas and didn't care for the tangy sauce that accompanied the dish. My dinner partner loved it. Our waiter, JuVaughn, was phenomenal. He was very attentive and engaging even though the restaurant was packed and he had challenging customers to deal with that evening. We went on a Monday night right after work and were promptly seated. We definitely plan to return!
Stuffed ourselves with amazing food. We got six plates of food, not including dessert. The waitress was extremely nice and even gave us free Turkish coffee after we were done. The bill ended up only $45!! The atmosphere is really cool and lively. We got right in without having to wait. We love this restaurant.
All was great and food was overall good except the falafel I won’t recommend it. The Hummus was great.
One disturbing thing I saw was at the end of dining I went to the bathroom and saw one of the restaurant worker who came out of a stall and from the noises he was making it was clear he was going heavy and he left back to the kitchen without washing his hands! Will never go there again for this reason! #FoodSafety matters
Superb food like always!! The mix of different flavors is outstanding on EVERY plate. SERVICE was a little slow at the beginning, and got better when we start eating. The waiter was not the usual incredible waiters that Jose Andres has in his restaurants. Overall like always Superb superb!!!
The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. The recommendation from the staff was for 3-4 small plates per person. We were two people and 7 plates plus dessert was perfect. Two drawbacks. First, the restaurant was very very loud. We had trouble hearing each other and we were sitting adjacent, not even across the table. Second, the delivery of the food was sloppy. Our server told us that he would arrange how the plates came out after we placed the order, as is customary for small dish meals. The first 2 plates came out, and before we were finished with them, the remaining 5 came out simultaneously. It made for a crowded table and gave the impression they didn't know what they were doing on our side of the counter.
We've been to Zaytinya numerous times. This was the first time they were totally off. Food has been much better on previous visits (falafel seemed old, the seared salmon had an almost soapy aftertaste).
Service was the worst. It took 45 minutes between the 2nd and 3rd lunch course. The wait became so awkward I had to flag down a waiter to ask where our food was. It arrived 10 minutes later.
We were seated in the upper level, in the round table in the corner. If you sit in the corner seat and look to your right, the white wall is EXTREMELY stained as though it has not been cleaned in a while. It was food-stained and fingers dirty. We told the waitress we had to leave at 1:30 upon ordering, with 3 of the 5 guests slecting the 4 course meal. At Jaleo or Oyamel, this would have been easy to accommodate. At 1:20, the waitress asked us if we would like the desert that came with our meals (that we had previously ordered) or we would just like the check. The food was delicious, but the service defintely did not have its best day and the memory of that wall lingers. Generally, this expereince did not live up to past experiences at this or other Jose Andres restaurants.
The food was good, interesting tastes. The lamb was tough and chewy.
The restaurant noise was a bit overwhelming, but we were seated in a corner wihich helped.
The waiter explained the dishes and recommende portion sizes.
Overall, we enjoyed it except for the chewy lamb.
