Get here early. This place was full by the time we left at 7:30 pm on a Monday night. Nice, attentive service. Enjoyed the octopus the most. The cheeses were a close second.

Took one of my daughters here. Had a great time! We really enjoyed the Chefs experience! We got to try a lot of new things, and the atmosphere was classy yet casual. It was louder than I expected but hey, everyone was engaged in conversation and happy to be there! We’d definitely go back!

This is my second time going to Zaytinya. The first time, I really enjoyed it. This time, however, the experience was extremely awful. We arrived at 6.15, which was our reservation time, and left at 6.55. Basically, the second any dish was empty, the waiting staff would immediately take it away, to the point where we all felt as if we were being kicked out as soon as possible. As we ate, the waiters would return every 20-30 seconds to take our dishes away. We could not enjoy more than a minute without a server coming, not to ask if it was okay, but to take something away. While the quality of the food was decent, it was not worth its price. For a highly rated restaurant, the service and overall experience was absolutely abysmal. When we went to the front desk to let them know what happened, all they said was a quick apology and offered a free round of shots. When we let them know we do not drink, they shrugged their shoulders and said sorry again. This kind of reaction is rather disgraceful for a supposedly reputable place. The quality of this restaurant has definitely dropped significantly and just really is not worth it.

While I have generally enjoyed food at Jose Andreas restaurants, the food did not suit my taste and was overpriced. Also, possibly because it was near closing time, the server was not very attentive. It just didn’t win me over.

Virtually all of the food we tried was delicious (one salad was underwhelming) - but most of the dishes were creative, well priced for the size and used fresh ingredients. My biggest complaint is the service and ambience.
Ambience first: this is probably something the restaurant just can't help - vaulted ceilings, large windows, hard surfaces and the size make this a VERY noisy restaurant. And lots of large parties are seated among smaller parties - so if you don't have a problem yelling to be heard or with sudden outbursts of "happy birthday to you" you should do fine. I do, and it wasn't.

Service - lots of young inexperienced servers and front desk people = a mediocre experience. The front desk people don't offer to take coats and don't do a great job managing the "crowd" around the front desk waiting for tables. The servers likewise seemed inexperienced. There was no pacing - food arrived when it was prepared and so the table was soon crowded with dishes. All the food was delicious, but it's not a pleasant experience to have it dumped on your table all at once. Servers don't appear to control pacing and don't offer to pace delivery - all of which leads to a rushed feeling. And the wine list was a mystery to our server - though she at least offered to find out about a bottle she didn't know about - which was good.

Every time we visit DC we eat here. As always, the food was exceptional, the service was great, and the food came out very quickly. It was a bit noisy, but love love love this restaurant. We took friends for the first time. They loved it as well. Our special favorites included the octopus, the sirloin and lamb shank.

Since I love Turkish food, I really wanted to like Zaytinya (which means olive oil in Turkish), but a few of the dishes fell short. Service by Kevin was terrific, and the Brussel sprouts he suggested were fantastic, but the Ottoman pilav was dry, and several dishes were oversalted.

Zaytinya was the most universally recommended restaurant among our D.C. friends and family, so we made it for brunch just before leaving for the airport on our last day in town. The scallops (with apple and radish in a dill yogurt sauce) were one of the best small seafood dishes I've ever had, and the mam bayildi (roasted eggplant with walnuts, cherry tomatoes and pearl onions) was spiced perfectly. Mezze portions of the desserts were quite small, but great for brunch, especially with Turkish coffee (jasmine tea from Teaism was another strong choice). The decor was beautiful, although the tables were a little close together and we could clearly follow our neighbors' conversation. We were both very glad we'd been able to make time to visit Zaytinya, even just for a quick lunch.

Outstanding menu choices artfully presented...and delicious too! The crispy eggplant and the chicken Taouk deserve special mention. This was my fifth time at Zaytinya and I look forward to many more moments with Jose Andres and his talented team!

Looking for delicious tapas in a gorgeous building and within a block of the metro? If yes, then Zaytinya is your spot. Don't miss the Imam Biyaldi, branzino, and the beet salad.

Quick note - while the servers are very nice and knowledgeable, service can be spotty. The red wine selection is underwhelming and most seemed to have turned in the bottle itself.

Took my vegan colleague for dinner. Researched carefully the list of restaurants, making sure that she would not leave premises hungry. We both had a great experience. My colleague have heard about José Andrés, but never had chance to try his inspired creations. I knew that our dining experience will be an adventures and memorable. The creative presentation of the food, amazing aroma and memorable taste made our day. Service was excellent, despite obviously busy time in the restaurant. We loved this place and vibe :) We will be back:)!

What a wonderful restaurant I travel to DC for business and this place has been on my list for a while. The meal did not disappoint . Was there with two co-workers and we ordered a bunch of dishes from each area of the menu. Portions are large enough for a bite or two for everyone on each dish ( tapas style). The Grilled octopus was incredible, cooked with a crisp on the outside and tender on the inside.

Cocktails we interesting but the flavors went very well together. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Especially Vegetarians or pescatarians as there are plenty of options.

One of my favorite restaurants in DC hands-down. The hummus and pita appetizer is delectable: genuine pita, not the kind you get in the grocery store. My favorite mezze are the fried eggplant, Ottoman pilaf, and falafel.

The waiter i believe is spelled Acehi (from marrocco) made us feel rushed. My guests noticed and I apologized. The food has gone down from past times. The shrimp anf the pork belly suvlaki were good. Yet the squid was totally blasé. The spanakopita was a deception, have eaten better ones at lesser places. The wines were interesting.

The food was excellent and their service impeccable, they never let out water glasses or wine glasses get too low and always swung around when we needed them. You really can’t go wrong with the menu, and at 3 plates per person, it will leave you feeling satisfied rather than uncomfortably full. Special highlights to the octopus and scallops which were perfectly cooked. Their dessert menu is also something to take a look at as well. Overall, an excellent place for a meal no matter the occasion and definitely worth a trip back.

I adore Zaytinya - been going for years. This last time was truly disappointing because our server was so unpleasant. I reported this to the manager, who apologized, but really, Zaytinya should have pleasant, friendly, helpful wait staff as basic. Perhaps our server had an off night, but that's all it takes to give a customer a bad impression. I will go back because I love the food, and will make sure I get another wait person!

Food is always good here, but the table can get cramped with the physically large China. Desserts are always very interesting but limited gluten AND dairy free options...as with most places :) Service this visit was good, but felt a bit rushed to buy more food.

Arrived on time for our reservation and were seated immediately and a busboy filled our water glasses and then we were ignored for 20+ minutes. Had to ask twice for a hostess/manager to discuss why we we're not being helped and the head hostess came over, apologized and took our order herself without so much as a smile or friendly comment. Her first response to us was "why hasn't anyone taken care of you since you've been here?" The food arrived quickly and was good. The bill was brought to our table as soon as we finished the main courses and then sequentially two managers came over one after the other and removed the remaining plates off our table and stood over us as we paid up and left with one practically standing at our table till we did totally unaware why we were running late. We ordered over 10 small plates for 2 people and wine. We talked quietly and were well dressed. Many people were standing at the front desk waiting to be seated but to rudely push us out of the restaurant so they could seat the next party 30 minutes after our order was finally taken was incredible to witness. Yes they had booked another party for that time to sit at that table but to rush us out after the delay in finishing our meal was caused by them ignoring us for 20+ minutes seems unseemly.

Given that Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine is my absolute favorite, I chose Zaytinya to celebrate my 23rd birthday. Aside from the perfectly portioned small plates and unique craft cocktails, the service and ambience made for the perfect celebration. The hostess, Lindsay, was absolutely outstanding and truly went above and beyond to create such a special night for me and my friends. Our server, Nikina, was excellent. She recommended some fabulous dishes and provided attentive service, always making sure our glasses were filled with Rosé. The bartender, Tollie, was charming as he brought me and my friends roses (as per request of my mother who coordinated the celebration) at the end of our meal. Between the eclectic menu and the authentic atmosphere, filled with Mediterranean blues and the classic evil eye decorations, and the exemplary guest service, Zaytinya is an absolute must.
