The portions are incredibly small and the prices per dish do not match. The hummus dish, for example, is sparsely portioned and comfortably serves one, not more. This plate is about $10. Given this reality, a meal for two will cost upwards of $100 and the dishes brought to the table will never feel as though the meal is worth the expense.
Restaurant was over booked because of a concert the night we went. We waited 15 min after our reservation to get seated and then another 10 min before anyone came to our table. The server was apologetic but they clearly did not have enough staff for the night. We ordered a tasting menu and the course timing was extremely off...we waited 15 min after finishing one dish and then 4 arrived at the same time. Took 3 hrs of mostly waiting to finish our dinner.
One of my favorite restaurants. Love All Jose Andres restaurants. Hate to even say anything negative but few suggestions:
Make sure bread is at table before serving mezze plates.
We waited more than 30 minutes even though we had a reservation- we have been here over 20 times and never had to wait that long to be seated.
Mezze plates, especially lebne seemed like portions were smaller than usual
Food and drinks are always on point! The best drink in DC is the 3pm in Istanbul! The cinnamon sugar rim is amazing!
As always: great. Love the food. The menu is so large that every time can be a surprise.
The food was excellent! We love to try new and different foods and would have loved to have a waiter to suggest foods. He was just too busy to accommodate. Thought the atmosphere was very relaxed and enjoyable. We will definitely come back and hopefully get a better waiter with more suggestions.
Made a reservation two months ago and was still waiting for a table and standing in the entranceway for 20 minutes
Great Restaurant! Always a great dining experience. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
For love of all that is holy, get the spanikopita and falafel!!!!! Really, I have yet to have anything bad there. Really attentive staff. Just wonderful!
The food was delicious and staff was really friendly!
Where is the line between eatery run by well-regarded chef and another edition of a corporate restaurant? How do you keep your personal stamp and aspiration over 20 restaurants in 5 cities? You can't. Zaytinya's food is okay. It also feels impersonal, mechanical, victim to it's own success. You are just another diner in the crowd. And that I consider a "crime".
Enjoy zaytinia frequently but the first time for brunch. Excellent. Try the Turkish donuts.
I had the pleasure of introducing Zaytinya to a friend from out of town. She loved it, just as I knew she would!
Consistently wonderful restaurant. Whenever I'm in DC I make it my business to eat here. Appreciate that the menu gets tweaked enough to keep it interesting, but our favorites are always still available.
Did the chef’s tasting. Food was ill prepared. Over cooked scallops and octopus. Excessive acidity on all dishes washed out any other flavor. This is a price point for carefully designed plates, but the dishes underwhelmed at every turn.
Additionally ambiance was destroyed by poor upkeep. Flatware appeared over used (scratched and marked) and at times also dirty. Tables had scrapes along edges that were not repaired.
Service was fine.
Very disappointing. Would not return or recommend.
Our dinner and experience was top shelf. The best we've had in some time. First the vibe in Zatinya gave me a lot of energy--it's very trendy, with upscale decor and well dressed clientele. Our server was great and the food was ABSOLUTELY delicious; from the octopus to the Brussel sprouts to the crispy lamb shoulder. We asked the server to select a bottle of wine, and he picked a great one, and not too pricey. As we were leaving around 10:30 the restaurant was still packed and buzzing; I can understand why.
Oh and the cocktails and the great bar scene. My friend and I enjoyed our great DC Manhattens and our wives enjoyed their pretty drinks, whatever they were
A great nigt
We had the chef’s experience. Just fantastic- and they easily accommodated one guest’s Celiac without us ever feeling like we weren’t getting their best.
Food portions were small and were not worth the prices. Tapas are good when they taste of the dish is worth the price and this was not the case. Seems like a tourist trap and is overpriced for the quality.
one of the best meals i have ever had. every plate we had was phenomenal.
Fantastic food with portions made to share. The Brussels sprouts are a must have. The wine flights are also good and a good deal. Great place to go on a date or with friends .
We enjoyed the variety of mezze options and the Turkish sangria was a treat! The tomato soup was delicious with hints of cinnamon and paired nicely with the Peynirli Pide. The Bronzino was just okay but the oysters were tasty. We tried the red lentil patties which were quite nice and finished off the meal with Turkish coffee. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu options. The space is nicely appointed and we sat downstairs by the fireplace. Next visit we will try to sit upstairs to take in more of the view.
This restaurant is TOO NOISY. Otherwise, it was excellent.
Service was cold and a note on the lunch reservation about celebrating a 30th birthday was completely ignored/overlooked. Disappointing way to celebrate such a big milestone.
So hard to get a reservation, but finally did and as usual the yummiest place! Fast service and food Is just spectacular. If you have never been you should really try it!
We were seated quickly at a very nice table near the window on a Thursday night. It was difficult to hear talking at a normal conversational level, but we didn’t have to yell loudly to be heard. The food was good and the bread came out quickly and was warm, fluffy and plentiful. The only downside was the service. It was slow- long, long waits with empty water glasses( seems even longer when you are thirsty). Small suggestion: consider leaving a carafe of water on the table when the restaurant is busy. The salad, fries and cauliflower dishes came out 25+minutes after ordering. The Mediterranean fries were hot but the cauliflower was barely warm when we received it. It was another 15 minutes before the other plates (chicken and lamb) were brought. On the whole the ambiance was great, and the food was flavorful. I enjoyed my visit, despite being annoyed at the level of service, and would try it again.
I took my cousin. we had a very nice lunch with time to catch up over great food.
Very good food and presentation, just took soooo long from one plate to other.
Very nice except for the exceedingly "enegetic" noise level
Good, patient service (my dining date was late); very good lunch choices at reasonable (for Washington) prices. Small thing: I ordered ginger ale and it was the real deal, quite fresh.
Had two tasting menus ; was too much food for two us at 15 courses but we ate it all and was fantastic
food is way too salty. Tried the chef tasting menu wasn’t impressed at all!
Always love Zaytinya! We had an awesome server and the food was delicious. It's so bright and spacious in the restaurant. Will definitely be back!
Good Mediterranean mezze-style meal and great service.
Serve was exceptional bad however once Management became aware of the situation they when out of there way to successful Rectify the situation. Things go wrong all the time it how you recover that really counts and the food was good.
I will definitely go back and recommend this restaurant.
They are phenomenal. Food was great, affordable, staff was excellent and they even stored my luggage for me! 10/10.
One of my favorites!!
Our third visit in a few years while traveling to Washington... consistently flavorful , well executed dishes , very good service and great ambience He cocktails well made and refreshing
Visited for a birthday dinner. They were able to accommodate a party of 10 at a large round table. We all ordered the chef special which was amazing. It includes a substantial sampling of the menu and everyone left satisfied.
Outstanding on all levels. I was so happy to have picked a restaurant that we had never been to, but have always wanted to go to. The server, Hussein, did a great job pairing the wine with the tapas and making wonderful suggestions (I’m allergic to nightshades). Having family in from out of town was extra special and they loved it as much as we did. It is definitely our new favorite restaurant in DC!
