What Insiders Are Saying
Another Jose Andres spot with solid tapas. Head to Zaytinya for a power lunch that doesn’t feel like a power lunch.
Attentive server. Excellent recommendations. Wonderful food.
Excellent food. Love the portion size to be able to sample lots of dishes. Great staff.
Simple meal but absolutely delicious of hummus and falafel. Hard to find a good wine however as only regional wines are served. Very hot by kitchen recommend not sitting near it.
Go with 2 or more people and share everything! Amazing dining experience. Excellent service.
As expected the food was delicious and the overall vibe of the restaurant at dinnertime was lively. Unfortunately, our server abandoned us. We had several questions about the menu and cocktails, which I guess taxed her. She did not return to ask about our meal, how we liked it, nothing. She even got snippy at one point - "If you like gin and tonic, get the gin and tonic". I waited for her to return to take my drink order, but she never returned so I shared my spouse's drink. She was friendly while we completed the payment transaction - too late for niceties at that point.
Excellent food, great service, fun place for a group.
Love this place! Consistently great!!! They are on top of all food allergies/preferences so no worries if that's something you need help with as they are very accommodating.
Delicious! Highly recommend if you want a party in your mouth experience. Certainly flavorful and spices awaken the palate. Leisurely pace is recommended at this restaurant as service is friendly but just a tad slow.
Adi (a new server trainee) was delightful. She's going places! We almost wanted to steal her to come and work for us.
The food, as always was terrific. A great time was had by all. Many thanks!
Amazing food and great suggestions from our server. Perfect for people that like to share!
Fabulous food and great service. It is loud, so not a place for serious discussions.
What a wonderful place! The menu offered an eclectic choice of dishes, and everything we tried was delicious. The service was beyond friendly: our waiter and manager were wonderfully thoughtful, which added to the pleasure of the evening. We can't wait to return!
Just wonderful food and service
Wonderful Turkish/Lebanese/Greek small plates using fresh ingredients and mouth-pleasing seasonings.
one of the good options downtown, good food, not outrageously priced, good selection of small plates.
It was lovely sitting outside on a summer day. The service was attentive and they didn’t rush us.
Loved the food and the space! The experience was excellent and would go again!
Excellent food, but on the last 3 visits the service has been terrible. Each time I didn't' spend nearly as much as I expected because NO ONE ever came to check on the table and ask about the empty plates and wineglasses that sat there. Would have liked more wine, would have ordered more food but couldn't get anyone to assist. (Manager: Pay attention! You are losing money!) Last night's dinner they didn't have ingredients for one of their signature drinks, and we never got all the dishes we had ordered - they just didn't show up. They were not included on the bill as we finally asked for the check and said never-mind on those two plates, don't bother with them anymore. This was almost two hours at dinner which was nice and leisurely, but it would have been much nicer had we received the items we had ordered, and if we could have ever gotten a waiter to refill the wine glasses.
AND THE NOISE. It's so loud. You can't talk, you have to shout. Sitting outside is much nicer because you can have a conversation. Food is always awesome, but they need to pick up the service side of things.
Food was good but nothing spectacular. The ambience was fine. It was very hot inside. Service could be improved. Overall glad we tried it but I don’t think I would go back.
Great food, mediocre service, disgusting bathrooms.
Great food as always. Love this place, but the service could have been better tonight. They were friendly and professional, but there were long waits between service. The key to a large group doing small plates is to keep the food coming and the energy high. We had a solid 20-30 minute gap between food service tonight. Disappointing and probably cost the restaurant money.
Took my family here for a birthday and everyone LOVED it!! Will 100% be going back. Delicious food & always fun to share mezze style.
My good friend comes into town once a year, and I take her to a nice DC dinner somewhere. This year she requested we repeat Zaytinya--out of all the wonderful DC restaurants we could try. It did not disappoint. We ordered extras to go and enjoyed them for breakfast the next morning.
Although a large and busy restaurant, the service delivered and each dish prepared is just for you. What a fabulous team at Zaytinya!
Ordered 4 items plus dessert, all gluten free. Brussel sprouts, halloumi, lamb chops and octopus. Our server recommended wine pairings. Everything was perfect.
Lovely, light venue with excellent service and creative, flavorful options.
I was disappointed with my recent visit. I've been here before and loved the food. It seems the chef is different? Or the recipes? The Halloumi cheese was spot on and delicious. However, the Piyaz seemed different - much more soupy and less tasty, and the zucchini pancakes (Kolokithokeftedes) seemed wet and doughy instead of crispy and delicious. Hope it was just a bad day, as I have had delicious food here before.
Excellent restaurant with great service and great food! I will definitely return back and recommend it to my friends
Lovely experience. Great wine. Great food (minus the mushroom dish).
Beautiful day to eat outside. We were in no rush. Food was very good and we ordered the right amount. Well worth dining here (again)
Have been to Zaytinya several times and the food is always very good and the service nearly as good as well. Six of us were there on a Friday night and it was very crowded and loud which is not surprising. Overall we had a good meal and a good time. My biggest disappointment was finding a reasonable ($50) red wine. Unfortunately, their only selections are wine from Greece, Lebanon, Turkey and that region. The waiter suggested a $69 bottle of Chateau St. Thomas 2011 red blend that was too tannic even with time to open up it was too bitter and astringent. At similar restaurants in LA, SF, Seattle & NYC I can get a $50 bottle of Italian, Spanish or even an over-priced Californian that is spectacular compared the Zaytinya offering. Their corkage fee is a robust $25. If we return it will be for the food and maybe a beer which is too bad as I always prefer wine.
My husband and dear friend and I had a fabulous dinner at Zaytinya on Friday night and sat outside, where it is slightly quieter. Dinner was delicious and service was impeccable.
The best dish we shared was soft shelled crab special. Crunchy, with
I usually give zaytinya 5 stars but it just wasn't on it's game last Friday. Waitress suggested a spread and then it took a long time to get pita. It was so full that servers butt touched us when she tried to get from table to table. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't what I expect from Jose Andres.
Turkish and Mediterranean themed small dishes, or mezze. They are good but expensive and the dishes are quite small. The service is great, but it’s quite noisy
great server with great recommendations. very satisfying
Very pleasant evening, food, service, and ambiance.
Much too noisy and we had their "quietest" table. Recommend only if you are prepared to shout or can sit outside, which we could not do.
Wanted to like it, as the cuisine is one of my favorites. Service and ambiance excellent. However, every single hot dish we ordered arrived room temp, as if it had been prepped in advance. Nothing was hot. I've had much better Mujadara, this one had no disernable caremelized onion and was a little mushy, having lost it's texture; the taboulleh was fresh but nothing to write home about; all in all, while it was a nice meal, my companion and I felt it was more of a tourist trap meal than a truly great one, when compared to some excellent meals we've had at both large and small restaurants.
Food and service were great as usual. We came with a group and had reservations for two separate tables but with just a few extra minutes waiting they were able to seat us all together. Also, our server was very patient with our very annoying and confusing separating of checks. Everything was much appreciated!
our server was excellent - attentive and not intrusive; also great to see Maggie there and good to talk with her. They did a wonderful dessert surprise for my husband's birthday. We highly recommend it
