What Insiders Are Saying
Another Jose Andres spot with solid tapas. Head to Zaytinya for a power lunch that doesn’t feel like a power lunch.
Food was great although service was a little slow
It was a wonderful Fathers Day dinner. Service was efficient and considerate. The food was superb.
Great service, great food and beverages, good portion sizes. The ambience was welcoming and it was an overall fantastic experience with our baby too.
We were there to celebrate birthday and Father’s Day. Food was good as always. Cocktails were great. Desserts were good too.
The service was extremely slow… We were neglected several times. It was very very loud in there and hard to hear people across the table
We did the Chef's Experience, which was a phenomenal experience...except that we couldn't finish all of our food! You will get six dishes per person, plus a desert each, and they aren't tiny (with one exception, which was a spectacular single bite), so we actually couldn't finish all the food. We took two dishes home, didn't finish one (the cauliflower, which was kinda meh), and didn't finish the incredibly delicious dessert. Other than the cauliflower, the only thing that wasn't great (and quite frankly just wasn't even good) was a lamb turnover kind of thing that tasted like it was trying to be a Philly cheese steak, and just didn't work.
The other dishes ranged from good to great. Favorites included the roasted pepper Htipiti (though my fiance thought it bordered on being too sweet, I loved it), the Hommus Ma Lahm (the lamb is great, though the hummus itself was only fine), the Pastirma (amazing bite), and the Seared Halloumi (the dates are a perfect accompaniment). The fresh pitas that are provided free are delicious both alone and eaten with several of the items we had. Also, the 3pm in Istanbul cocktail is delicious, not sweet at all, but really smooth and flavorful.
All in all, a great experience, and we look forward to returning, just for happy hour when we can control the volume of food and the overall cost. This was a $240 meal (chef's experience being $65x2, and two drinks apiece), so it's definitely not a recurring option, but as a special occasion, it's a great choice.
Been here more than a dozen times and food as always was great. This time the service was horrible. Long waits for waitress between each order, lack of bread through initial mezzas, and few if any check-ups. Can't say if it was short-staffing versus poor service but the end result was the same and will make me second guess returning with so many other options now available.
Longtime friends impressed by the wide variety of amazing dishes. We tried everything and great libations. My fav was the 3:00. Jose rocks. Small plates from that area are the best. Outdoor space is perfect
As usual, the food was excellent and (slightly) innovative Mediterranean cuisine. Enjoyed the outdoor seating which is well removed from traffic and mostly shaded. Outdoor seating is fairly quiet while indoors can be noisy. Appreciate the offering of small sized desserts or cheese course.
Portions are too small for the price. The salad that was suppose to have pistachios had a very tiny amount . The octopus tasted good but it was salty. The lamb and eggplant was the only dish that we felt like we had our money worth it. Our waitress was very nice.
Loud restaurants don’t usually bother me but this was to the extreme. Kind of shocked that nothing has been done to remedy it. Food was great but service was lacking. Had reservations but the host forgot about us. Ordered an appetizer that required bread, didn’t get bread for 10 minutes while everyone around us was getting bread. As we were finishing our entrees, waiter came by to ask if we were finished, we said yes, and then he brought the check. Didn’t offer us dessert or anything else. Felt very rushed, we were in and out in like 45 minutes.
Impossible to get servers attention to order more food or drinks. He neglected our table the whole evening.
It was a lovely evening to sit outside and the soft breeze enhanced the atmosphere. We ordered Chefs tour menu for 2 which is far and away the best value in the restaurant- and delicious too. Service was great, if a tad obsequious. I look forward to returning.
Love Zaytinya. Terrific food, great location, excellent service. Anything with the Jose Andres name on it is high quality. I'll be back.
The best food we had in DC. Maybe the best food ever??? So delicious! We had a nice server, tho the food runners weren’t too happy to be there.
They took great care of us, being annoying vegans We sat outside on their beautiful patio.
We WILL be back!
As usual, Zaytinya was excellent! I visited with my family from overseas and the experience was a joy. In my first time there, I had the Chef's tasting option, but this time the waiter guided us through the process. She was incredibly knowledgeable and all of us had a wonderful time. Will definitely be coming back!
The service was truly exceptional - the hostess even found a vase for flowers that my date brought me, so I didn't have to set them on the floor. The food was absolutely incredible, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The portions were perfect to share between two people. Perfect for an anniversary date or any other special occasion.
Much noisy than usual, which is always loud. Terrible service. Told the waitress that we had to leave at 7:10 PM to get to the Landsburgh theater. We ordered 8 dishes for 4 people and only got 4 of the 8 in time to eat. The remaining four came at 7:09 PM just as we got up to leave. We refused to pay for them, which was honored. But no apology or anything taken off the check for what we had eaten, which would have been an appropriate gesture to compensate us for leaving hungry. We have all returned to Zaytinya many times since it opened, but are unlikely to come again.
The noise is bad, so you shouldn’t go if you are dining with someone with whom you want to have a serious conversation. Also, the two-top tables in the front are a little too close together.
Food was amazing! Loved it!
Fantastic weather complemented by memories of Beirut with my daughter at first lunch downtown with her in two years.
Birthday lunch for a friend. Everything turned out beautifully. Nice dessert with a candle at the end. She loved it!
Three of us went to Zaytinya for dinner at 7:30pm on a Monday night. This is a popular place and it was crowded and hopping, even on a Monday night. You would be wise to have a reservation. The decor is modern, bright, and cheerful. Both the food and the service were excellent. The reason for my 4-star rating on ambience is that it was very loud in there and difficult for us to hear each other. As delicious as the food was and as wonderful as our waiter was, it was so hard to carry on a conversation because of the noise level that it really hurt our enjoyment of our meal.
If you have dinner here, don’t eat dinner in the bar. The food was mediocre (not prepared and served as requested) and the service was very disappointing (multiple servers standing around in the dining room while service in the bar was un-attentive and slow). My first time at this restaurant- likely will not return. Disappointing given many very positive reviews.
A superb restaurant. Great food and very good service. Highly recommended.
We've been patronizing Zaytinya recurrently for more than a decade, and have been impressed by its consistent quality. The food is very good, from the pita that keeps coming throughout the meal and spreads to meaty courses. Vegetable dishes -- we ordered eggplant, brussels sprouts, and couscous with mushrooms --were uniformly excellent. The dining room remains handsome, and pacing of dishes is good for a small-plates establishment.
I thought the food was good but I expected better. The servers were fantastic. The ambiance was very nice. But food taste was good to ok.
Excellent brunch ! The Rozay brunch was delcious with the rose pairings.
Amazing food and price is well worth it. However food takes a while to come out. So, be ready for a leisurely lunch or dinner!
Our waiter was terrific! We sat at our favorite table, a huge treat. That particular table doesn’t seem to be as loud, one of my very few complaints about this restaurant. I find it difficult to hear in there.
My only complaint about this visit is that they have discontinued their red lentil patties. As a vegetarian, I always look forward to them as a delicious, healthy option. There are other vegetarian options – – in fact, tons of them – – but the red lentils were one of the few containing protein. The other options with protein have more fat. I hope this was just a seasonal change or maybe just testing of the waters, but I really hope they bring that menu item back.
Been coming here for years! My wife and I come here about once a month from Maryland. Always a great place to dine! The food is outstanding!
One of the best restaurants in Washington DC. Great food and service.
We sat outside as the weather was beautiful. After waiting more than 20 minutes, we had to flag down a waiter to take our drink order. Service was mediocre at best. This was our second time at this restaurant in less than two months. Both times the food has been very good but the service is poor. We were about a minute away from speaking to the manager when we finally got some attention. For this price and such a renowned chef/owner, we expect a better experience.
Been several times but this time not so hot. Friday night swamped them, so they kinda seemed to mail it in at the food prep and timing of dishes and service left much to be desired. Given plethora of dining experiences in DC, I will not again visit on a Friday or Saturday night as just too busy to be as good as they can and should be.
Still a great vibe, but Adam Morgan’s Lapis hands down better for middle eastern/ Afghan options IMHO.
We love the food and service at Zaytinya, however, the noise level makes it difficult to converse with dinner companions and that, for us, is a very important part of dining out. It makes us want to avoid Zaytinya at all of the times when people usually go out.
Outstanding food and fun place for lunch. We were stuffed at the amount of food for the price. Really enjoyed it!
The food was great but the server lacked as I was there on 2 consecutive nights and the service lacked on both nights.
We ate outside and it was just delightful! The food, the weather, the ambiance just excellent. We went there before a play at the Folger Theatre.
We had a gorgeous lunch at Zaytinya to celebrate our daughter's high school graduation. Our group of four ordered from the lunch menu (four courses) and everything was delicious and beautifully presented. It was a great experience for a special occasion!
A favorite spot! Always wonderful food and service!!
