Food was amazing as usual but service not so much. The servers were literally throwing the dishes at us and there seemed to be an issue whenever we asked them to remove one of our empty plates.
Wonderful as alwaya
Always delicious and due to the small plate size encourages you to try something new each time.
I made a reservation for Zaytinya for my dad's birthday after reading excellent reviews in the Washington Post. My family loves Mediterranean food and we were not disappointed. The portions are very reasonable for the prices, given that this is a Jose Andres restaurant in the heart of downtown DC. The crispy brussels sprouts with yogurt sauce, dill, and pomegranate was a standout dish. The staff were very accommodating when my parents ran late for our reservation due to traffic coming from NY. The restaurant is enormous and absolutely beautiful--sleek and modern, busy without being loud or unbearable. The wait staff were very kind and even brought a candle in my dessert for his birthday (since my dad cannot eat sweets). I had an excellent experience and would definitely return and recommend to family/friends if they're in the DC area.
As always Zaytinya was excellent. The food was terrific as was the service. It is one of my favorite restaurants in DC. I will be back again for sure.
Not a great experience. The server didn’t warn us that the servings were small (like tapas in a Spanish restaurant) and so we didn’t order enough. Then they tried to push us out before we were completely finished to make room for a private party (despite the fact we had made a reservation on Open Table). On the other hand, the mouse playing under the adjacent table was really cute!
This is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. I always get the Chef's Experience and enjoy it every time.
The noise level made enjoying food and conversation difficult.
Had an amazing birthday dinner complete with a dessert treat on the house. The staff was very professional, had great taste. We (2) ordered a bunch of entrees and a bottle which was plenty of food. Would def recommend.
The food was excellent, as always. The service was also great. The restaurant is too loud and, possibly, getting louder. It is hard to have a real conversation in the evenings with so much noise. We prefer to come there in the summer when we can sit outside. Maybe you could have a quiet room or areas where there’s more noise absorption.
Excellent overall .good for every occassion
We were sat 25 minutes after our reservation time. The server came so infrequently that we had to order drinks from whoever would come by. We received a soda finally after ordering it 3 times.
The food was excellent though. It was the only thing that made up for it.
Food is great. Love the menu. Our waiter, however, seemed disinterested or bored with his job, and/or very disappointed in us as he realized that we were drinking alcohol and our bill was not going to be a big one. He was curt with us and not that kind.
Don’t consider this a meal, consider it a food experience! It’s a trip through Mediterranean cuisine. All small plates were fantastic, authentic, and there were so many to choose from. We were a party of 3, and eight dishes was just about the right amount for us. The restaurant is lively, however, we sat outside. The night was a bit chilly, but there was ample heat from the nearby gas fired heat lamps. The service is attentive, we ordered several plates, and the server brought them out in stages, building our meal for us. We capped it off with a couple of delicious desserts. Take your time! Enjoy!
Excellent server. Gave great recommendations re ordering.
A very fine evening was had by all, but I keep hoping that this restaurant, and other up-scale eateries in DC and NYC, will decide that an "energetic" noise volume really does mean loud.
Food is very good. However, our waiter was not very attentive. He seemed more focus on serving other tables than our table, He forgot our drinks until we reminded him, after three courses. After the main courses there was no offer of dessert or after dinner cocktails. All he cared about was delivery of the bill. Disappointing, to say the least.
Jose Andres has a gift to establish interesting and quality restaurants. Do not miss this one.
First time experiencing this cuisine and we couldn't have been more pleased. Small dishes are perfect to order multiple and explore.
Great service! Amazing twist to Mediterranean dishes!!
Delicious food! Wonderful to work with regarding food allergies.
Birthday celebration food was excellent, ambiance and service LOVE IT!!
The food was uninspired-- not enough flavor and overcooked. The atmosphere was just loud without being festive or exciting. And the service, especially at the bar, was awful. I wanted to love this place but it was so underwhelming. Don't believe the hype.
It is remarkable that a restaurant featuring food from three distinct regions is able to deliver dishes with finesse across the board. The menu is large but the level of the food is excellent and well considered across the board. Service is attentive and informative without being obtrusive. Zaytinya is a unique opportunity in DC to sample food that may not always be familiar but is reliably rewarding. I am very much looking forward to exploring even more of the menu in my next visits.
A must try for everyone
Food is always yummy!! Service was wonderful and made for a terrific beginning to an amazing evening...
I love the food and understand that they were busy. There was a huge party next to us. But it would take asking 3 people for our waiter to come over before the waiter would come. Again, I love the food and understand they were busy but the service needs to improve dramatically from Saturday.
Haven’t been in several years, but still excellent. Had shashuka, cauliflower, taramasolita (amazingly good). Good service. Definitely need reservations, even for a Saturday lunch in November.
Best French toast in the world! I'd return just to eat that.
Great food and drinks. Portions are small so order accordingly
Zaytinya is always a winner. You find little dishes that are different and unusual...unusually good. On a Friday night, the bar scene was hopping, everyone was in a good mood, and the staff handled the press of people with aplomb. Every dish was good, the wine list interesting, and the service was excellent but not obtrusive.
The chilled Persian yogurt soup was outstanding!
Having been to Zaytinya once or twice before, I was looking forward to it. The food, however, didn't seem as great as I remembered it. I would definitely not recommend the $18 cheese plate. It was uninspired and came with no crackers or bread. The signature octopus dish was quite good, though somewhat skimpy for the price, also $18. All of the vegetarian dishes we had were very good, however. And the service was excellent. We asked not to be rushed with our dishes, and that request was honored. Our waiter was appropriately attentive without being obtrusive in any way. Zaytinya is a good experience, if not a great one. Just steer clear of the cheese plate.
Return visit for a quick meal and all food was great.
Delicious small dishes to share with the family on my wife’s birthday. The service was fantastic. My 18 month old loved the fresh bread and food as well. Highly recommended and we’ll be back again for sure.
Service was painfully slow. Servers did not bring pita for hummus despite repeated requests and general lack of attention to detail. Food was delicious but service really questionable.
I made reservations a week in advance for my birthday. My server made some suggestions that I ordered and then I fell in love with Zaytinya.
I was given sparkling wine as soon as I arrived. Dish after dish arrived and they were all thoughtfully constructed. The Htipiti spread had marinated roasted peppers, feta, and thyme. It was delicious. Servers delivered plates of small warm pitas that were inflated from the oven. The chilled Persian soup was created at the table and was tangy and compelling.
The crowd was loud and energetic. It was like sitting with new friends because tables talked between each other. The atmosphere was convivial and diners were very complimentary about their choices. There was a party mood afoot and I thought it was fitting for my big day. I will definitely return soon to try the sea scallops and the Eriste.
What an incredibly fun dining experience. There were seven of us for dinner and I just asked the waiter to start bringing their best food as well as to accommodate two diners with specific food allergies. They hit it out of the park with the wonderful variety and quality of food. I would highly recommended and will definitely return on my next trip to Washington DC.
We arrived for our reservation and had a ten minute wait for our table. The food was delicious but the service was not great. Our water glasses were not refilled quickly and we had to wait a long time for them to bring more bread to use with our dips. Service improves as the restaurant got less busy later on.
