Amazing food. The tasting menus are definitely worthwhile.
It would be nice if there were a few choices for less expensive wines. Otherwise everything was perfect and the service was excellent.
Very hard to get reservations but so worth it! Service is top notch and the food is amazing. We did the tasting menu with the wine parings and were impressed by everything. The atmosphere is lively without being too loud. Definitely a place to return.
I love this place! Not my first (or last) time here but this time I found the music level a little intrusive. Otherwise, it was so delicious and such fun.
My experience at Zahav was, once again, incredible. Choosing the “Taste of Zahav” is the way to go, especially if you are dining with four or more people. The chef does magic with vegetables, and the meat dishes are always cooked to perfection and so flavorful. Servers are attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly.
We went to celebrate our wedding. We got married Friday but don’t
Food was amazing. We did the tasting menu and had to take food home when we left. We were so full but couldn’t stop eating because it was so good. Can’t wait to go back.
This is not my first time to Zahav and the food was fabulous yet again. The staff added a nice touch of printing Happy Birthday with my name on our menus, which was very kind. The service overall was good, but our waitress left something to be desired. She was MIA for the majority of our meal. After our initial drink order and dropping off our hummus I don't think we saw her again until she showed up with dessert menus. There are many people dropping off food and clearing plates, however as our waitress she should have at least come by to see how if everything was okay. I could possibly overlook this, but towards the end of our meal a table of people were seated next to us and our waitress was falling all over them and was at the table more in a 20 minutes then she had been at ours all night. It was a bit off putting and quite frankly disappointing. Not a reason not to go here because the food really is delicious but i do expect more with a restaurant like this.
WAs greatly anticipating a superb dining experience for my first time at Zahav. Came on a Friday night and the place was super loud with rap music blaring. A bad start.
Server was unengaged and not friendly to say the least. Taste of food was good but not over the top. Poor value on large plate with minuscule portion. More like a small plate than entree priced. I recommend Suraya in Fishtown. Hands down better in all respects.
Everyone raves about Zahav but the only thing golden is the name.
Perfect place to go for an engagement dinner. Personalized menu and champagne toast, plus outstanding menu and service. A bit too loud (hard to hear dinner conversation over music) but otherwise unbeatable.
Outstanding food and service. Deserving of all the praise they receive. Worth the effort to get a reservation.
Worth the wait
The food was as amazing as we've been told. The place was hopping. The acoustics are not great - or maybe it's intentional that it was very loud and less than ideal for us.
Amazing experience. Server was so attentive and the food was incredible.
From the depressing vestibule entryway, to the dim depressing dining room with music blaring down on your head, to the completely mediocre food that in many instances was inedible, to the $240 check for dinner for two, I’d say this was the worst restaurant we’ve ever been to. This was our 2nd time there—we thought we’d give it another try but it was even worse than the first time. The salad sampler was disgusting—mealy, over cooked carrots like from a school cafeteria, unidentifiable mush, beets that tasted like dirt, and delivered to the table with our server’s thumb in each tiny bowl...toasted cauliflower that was uneven at best—oversalted or bland, depending on your forkful...and hangar steak that was gamey and drenched in liquid smoke. What a joke that this place is booked months in advance. Emperor’s new clothes for sure.
10 years and still going strong. Another fantastic meal and they always make me feel welcome. The food is creative and delicious and the service is friendly and professional. If you haven’t been yet, you must go.
Zahav was well worth the wait! We got the tasting menu and everything was delicious. The food came out in waves which helped us pace ourselves. The hummus, laffa (coal baked bread), and several of the mezzos were very authentic. I can't wait to go back for the next special occassion.
I went to Zahav with my fiancé for our anniversary. They sat us immediately, had a personalized menu for us, and gave us complimentary champagne. The service was impeccable, the food was phenomenal, and the ambience was perfect. I would definitely go back over and over again!!
Amazing and worth the long drive. Owner came to greet guests. Worth every penny!
We went for our 25th anniversary. We had been trying to get the reservation since our 23rd anniversary, haha! We had a fabulous time from the food to the wine to the service, everything was top notch....even the music was fantastic!!! I would pay for a membership that would allow me to make reservations more than two months out...hint, hint! And we live in Brooklyn, NY. Really can’t wait to go again. Loved every minute.
An absolutely inspirational meal that highlights how creative preparing vegetables can be. The wine flight was delicious. We chose the tasting menu and it was delightful. The humus with date molasses, and the Salatim were fabulous, especially the eggplant, carrots, beets, and the peppers were flavorful. We chose the roasted Eggplant with Walnuts and Tahini for the Mezze. It was so creamy and full of roasted flavors. Do not miss enjoying the Malabi Custard. We bought his book and are planning a great dinner tomorrow night. One suggestion:
We could do without the loud music. The noise level needs mellowing.
A-MAZING. Easily slipped into my number 1 meal ever. We had a wonderful time, the staff was fantastic, and we least wanting to make another reservation. Highly recommend.
We absolutely loved our experience at Zahav.. The food was delicious, service outstanding, atmosphere was a little loud bit very nice. I only gave it four stars because reservations were very difficult to make. It took months for us to reserve a table and that was with me going on the website/Open Table every day until something opened up. We would love to return but you
Have to put in too much time into getting a table. We even tried call and we offered a waitlist slot but never made the cut. It’s a 50 minute drive in for us so we can’t just pop
In with the hopes of getting a seat at the bar or waiting for a table
We ordered the Mesibah which is basically the Chef's Tasting menu including the justifiably famous pomegranate lamb that takes 3 days to prepare. The food kept coming and coming. There were 6 small salads, hummus, several mezze including grilled duck hearts, baked halumi, and fried cauliflower. Our server was professional, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing-a tough line to tread. The rest of the staff were attentive and professional as well. Our plates were changed out 3 times before the end of the meal. They are accommodating to allergies and food restrictions. I have an aversion to peppers and was presented with a menu that told me exactly what had peppers in it. This would also be a great place for vegetarians. There are other vegetables I don't like but from this kitchen, they are delicious (I'm talking about you, beets and carrots!) The hummus was so creamy it was divine! The lamb was even more delicious than I anticipated. It's not sweet at all, but full of smoky, lamby goodness. I loved the meal so much, I got the cookbook the next day so I could approximate the experience at home. (I doubt it will be just as good, but a good reason to return!) The restaurant is beautiful to look at, designed like an outdoor Israeli market, if a bit loud. Not a place to go for a quiet dinner, but you won't want to talk anyway, because your mouth is too busy tasting the amazing food.
Heard and read many rave reviews about this restaurant. Quite good, but unfortunately no where near a Michelin rating if such existed in Philadelphia. Food is prepared and flavors are interwined quite well. The lamb kebab was not at all to our liking. Really surprising since I almost always love such dishes. I wonder how the lamb shoulder tastes? They had already run out of the dish for the evening. Service was friendly, helpful, and overall excellent. Music is OK, but volume should certainly be lowered a bit. I had read this critique in several reviews. Honestly a very good place and priced correctly. However, not nearly in the category of being either "best" in Philadelphia or one of the top reataurants in the U.S.. I don't think in the league of many restaurants with lengthy reservation waits.
Overrated. Getting a reservation is a pain. The wait staff kept trying to rush us along and tried clearing plates before we were ready. The waitress was inattentive although the assistant was much better. The food was very good but not worth the hype or the price.
Perfect. Literally couldn’t ask for a better experience. Get the Z&T and the Lamb Shoulder.
They were able to seat us early when we arrived for our reservation, which was great. We found it hard to understand the difference between the Chef’s Table and Zahav prix fix dinner, but wait staff were patient in explaining it to us. Food was interesting and delicious. Small plates and entres are modest size for price. Service was excellent.
We were a party of 3 and each of us ordered different dishes. We enjoyed every course we shared from start to finish. Unique dining experience that I highly recommend to anyone wanting to try something different. Great experience. We will return.
Amazing food! Services was outstanding, highly recommend!
The best hummus I have ever tasted ! The service was incredible and the chef’s choice is the way to go !!
Loved our evening at Zahav, thank you for the wonderful experience.
More than what I expected. The chef selection was on point. The lamb shoulders and chicken shishlik was very exceptional!! Will be going back soon.
Amazing food and service!!!
Ok food. Not the way I heard and people waiting for months to get reservation.
We brought friends visiting from out of town, and they loved it. We ordered a la carte and it was enough food. (Taste of Zahav is A LOT.) Service was excellent. I asked a favor and they accommodated beautifully. Only problem is the noise level.
Great experience. The food is excellent for the price. Everything is flavorful and fresh. Best restaurant in Philly.
Every dish was delicious. Excellent service, and perfect pacing with the courses. Can’t wait to go back
Always nice to introduce friends to Zahav. They enjoyed all the offerings from beginning to end.
