Zahav Ratings and Reviews
Always wonderful! Eating at Zahav is always a treat.
We brought visiting in-laws for dinner. This time, we all got the chef's tasting menu which was a great way of sharing and experiencing a wide selection of the menu. Everything was delicious: from the small salatim salads that balanced each other in taste and heat, to the Mezze (my favorites were the brussels sprouts and the cauliflower) to the Persian wedding rice and a whole roasted lamb shoulder with pomegranate and chickpeas, tender and crisp all at the same time, and finally to four wonderful desserts. It was a feast for the eyes and the palate!
Overall, Zahav lives up to the hype. When our group arrived they couldn’t find our open table reservation, even with the confirmation number, and the hostess could have been more pleasant about it, but a superior came to the rescue and sat us. All of the service going forward was exceptional. If it’s your first visit, go for the tasting menu.
Zahav is one of the finest dining I have ever experienced in Philadelphia.
The service and food were exceptional.
Our server Brandon was professional and knowledgeable.
The bartender Christopher was also very accomadating. Thank you to all the staff for a fun experience!
Extraordinary restaurant. Don't think I've ever had better service. Place runs like a machine. Food cooked with outstanding expertise and just the right amount of creativity. Salads were a little salty--they were probably authentic for the Middle Eastern climate, but salty by north atlantic standards. I wish everyone at the table didn't have to order the tasting menu if some want and some don't. Don't know if that rule is greedy or is just a reasonable business judgment on Zahav's part....but it ended up being quite expensive and too much food. That said, it was a fabulous meal.
Zahav came recommended from couple of my friends as being a very good option for a good dinner date for vegetarians. Getting a table however was a challenge as the slots get booked 2 months in advance when the reservations open. So I did reserve for my wife's birthday (first after our marriage) and it was an awesome experience.
The veg options were limited in the prefix dinner menu but all that we ordered and ate was great. Thank you Zahav. Look forward to visit again
We had high expectations for Zahav, and they absolutely met those expectations. The first course, which included an amazing hummus and a variety of other items was outstanding and very large. The main courses we're small but exquisite and because we were already very full from the appetizers we didn't mind. Had a great bottle of wine as well and the wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Absolute 5/5!
Zahav was on our list for a long time and when we finally got a chance to check it out after booking an appointment two months in advance, all I can say that it was a memorable experience. Upon arrival, we were seated promptly and attended to in a professional manner. We chose the Taste of Zahav with Wine Pairings option. The service was timed well between the courses and we were not rushed to finish. The food itself was phenomenal and felt very fresh. The wines chosen complemented food very well. Kudos to the staff for their attentive service and making our anniversary special. Thanks!
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Zahav on Thursday. We had written in our Open Table notes that it was our anniversary, and we were delighted to see that they had printed a custom menu with anniversary wishes on it. They also brought us toasting flutes of champagne! We had the chef's tasting menu and everything was amazing. Who knew that cauliflower could be so delicious? The custard for dessert was the perfect topper to an unforgettable food experience.
All food was terrific, and the crispy rice and lamb shoulder stand out as phenomenal. Really appreciate the unique cocktails and selection of Middle Eastern wines, as well as the ability to individualize the tasting. Service was warm and generous. Thank you to everyone at Zahav for an incredible and convivial meal
We didn't go on our honeymoon immediately so decided to go to Zahav for a "mini honeymoon date" Zahav is worth it even if it takes months to be able to book a reservation! I don't know have the words to describe how spectacular the food and the service was, except that you absolutely need to go to discover it for yourself.
Wow. We waited for a couple of months for the reservation and it was well worth the wait. We ordered the chefs tasting menu, which featured the lamb shoulder. I do not care for lamb, so our server, Peter, brought out a piece of Bronzino for me. The lamb was very tasty...but still a little too lamb for my liking. The fish was excellent. There was not one item that was brought to the table that we didn’t enjoy. The hummus is like eating cream. The haloumi cheese was excellent. The beets, carrots, eggplant. My husband did not know if he was going to like the food...he loved it. Our server was very attentive. His selections for the wine by the glass was spot on. We will be back.
We did the tasting menu and asked our server to pick for us since she knows the menu better than we could. And she did not disappoint! It was worth waiting for the reservation! Our only gripe was that the music was pretty loud, but we were still able to carry on a conversation. We will definitely be returning!
Giving four stars for the previous years of excellent experiences here, NOT for recent experience. Not what it used to be. The food was still good, if no longer spectacular, but the uneven service really sunk the meal. We always think of this as a great place to bring out-of-towners, but our experience tonight, after raving about this place to our guest for so long, was just embarrassing. The last time we came, the service was a little off, but I assumed it was a fluke. Unfortunately, it appears that was the beginning of a downward trend. So sad that it has deteriorated this much, but based on our experience tonight, I just can’t recommend it anymore.
The best thing was the service and the attentiveness of the staff. The cocktails were excellent, and the desserts were divine. The food itself was good, especially the branzino and the duck hearts. But overall, I have had much better. I was disappointed with the laffa. The meal itself and the ambiance simply did not live up to the hype. I made a reservation two months in advance (earliest available at the time). After waiting such a long time, I expected much more from this place. It is much more casual and less creative than I hoped it would be. If you want a more informal, tapas style dinner with friends or catching up with old acquaintances, I absolutely recommend Zahav. If you are looking for a world-class Israeli creative cuisine, unforgettable date experience in Philly, I suggest heading over to the formidable Abe Fisher, instead.
We were so excited to finally have the opportunity to eat at Zahav and it was truly amazing!! We had the Tayim, the Taste of Zahav. Our meal started with 6 small vegetable salads, followed by homemade Laffa with hummus & tehina. All of the small plates we chose next were so delicious, including haloumi and the yellowfin tuna. Then we had fantastic eggplant, branzino, and the most delicious maitake mushrooms. The desserts were the perfect finale to a fabulous meal. All of the dishes were innovative and delicious, drinks were incredible, service was great. A very memorable experience, which was special in every way. This was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. We loved every bite!
Perfection. Quite possibly the best meal I've ever had. And I'm an old lady that likes to eat! I didn't know that beets could ever taste so good! Definitely get the lamb shoulder - we were lucky enough to snag the last one of the evening. The service was excellent in a lively setting with a great playlist of music. We can't wait to return.
