The name Zacatlán surged from the origins of our chef, Eduardo Rodriguez. He was born in Zacatecas, Mexico (north-central Mexico), which is defined as "the habitants of the land where grass grows". Zacatlán is the nahuatl translation for "land with an abundance of grass", and that is where our idea of Zacatlán Restaurant began.

Zacatlán Restaurant desires to continue to preserve the traditions for our upcoming generations, while bringing forth new flavors. These new flavors incorporate Southwestern and Mexican influences. We are established near the Santa fe Plaza, right off of Guadalupe Street. We want to unveil a new fusion of food for everyone in Santa Fe and those who visit.

First-timers visit, but clearly a highlight evening. The service was excellent throughout…attentive, but never intrusive. The starter sip of white wine was a thoughtful surprise before we’d ordered anything only to be followed by beautiful sampler taste of a squash purée. The appetizer Ceviche was large, a bit dry, but a wonderful flavor as was the Pear salad. The Vegetarian was chosen as an entree with total satisfaction. The taco entree was shared by two and totally satisfied both. The beef short ribs should have been shared as the portion was extremely large and melted in our guest’s mouth. This was accompanied with a wonderfully smooth portion of mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables…the veggies were the only disappointment as they were under prepared, hard and all tasted alike. Otherwise, a very special dining opportunity…but a bit pricey in our experience. We came early, but the tables were fully occupied by 6pm…reservations would seem to be required at least on weekends. Finally, don’t be distracted by the storefront or the dark neighborhood…it is a great adventure to be there…and we loved the warmth of the staff!!! Thank you…we’ll return!!!

Excellent meal. We were seated on the covered patio outside, it was very comfortable. My husband had the Red Snapper and I had the duck. Both were delicious.

We were charged for two glasses of wine we did not order. I didn’t notice this until the next day when I reviewed the bill. I called right away, it took them over 30 minutes to figure out how to credit us back since we split the bill they need to credit Both of us. But we actually paid tax and tip on that so it should’ve been $16+ credited back. They didn’t understand this. So they just credit us $12 each. Not a good experience.

Zacatlan is a very special restaurant. It's a hidden gem on a side street in the capitol area. The food was unique and of the highest quality. I recommend the stuffed quail or the duck.

The brunch menu is a must. It is worth every penny - and it is not expensive. The food was plentiful and delicious. We sat outside and they have heaters on the patio. We are going back to have the fish tacos. Our friends raved over them and there are 4 tacos brimming with fish. Definitely a meal you can split. Their flan was fantastic as well. The Santa Fe Reporter said this is hands down the best brunch in town. I agree!

Amazing, amazing food. Chef Eduardo personally delivered our huevos rancheros - with homemade corn tortillas, fresh guacamole, topped with a delicious red sauce.

At an an earlier dinner highlighted by an order of pulpos Chef Eduardo also came to our table - a charming and thoughtful gesture rarely encountered.

We’ve been 3 times in 2 months and can’t get past the starters! They’re so good! Every entree that has been delivered to nearby tables looks amazing. Perhaps one day we’ll move on from the fabulous ceviche, pulpo, burrata, squash blossoms, and bone marrow. But golly those are delicious enough to keep us coming back. And last time we went the amuse bouche was a wonderfully silky lobster bisque.
Service is super attentive without being intrusive. We love this place.

Zacatlan is a 5 star restaurant, and possibly emerging as the best in Santa Fe. We enjoyed the lamb shank and pork entrees, both prepared uniquely with delicious southwestern flavors. The ceviche appetizer was wonderful. The service was outstanding. We loved it.

Horrible table for two in a corner, despite a reservation. Uninspired cuisine, accompanied by bland salad stack with a tasteless sauce on the side. Vegetarian stack with unseasoned eggplant included mealy tomato slices despite being prime tomato season. The tough fish in the tacos accompanied by 2 tablespoons of unripe mango and a weird catsup-mayo sauce, was topped with 3 thin slices of red cabbage, and was a tasteless bore. For some reason this restaurant is overrated, don’t bother.
