The food and service was very good. This was my second time at this restaurant.
I enjoy the variety of the meals, and I appreciate the customer service. It is a beautiful venue, and the crab cakes are my favorite.
Small plates during generous happy hour was how we rolled. Worked out great.
Excellent find on Broadway near 27th. Mehdi always has a great special of the day and the menu is complete. Service and ambience get top ratings.
This was a real find. The three of us felt it was some of the best restaurant food we have had
in the area... and that is saying something in this area. We will definitely go back and have already told friends about Z. I was pleased to read that you also do catering which might come in handy in the future.
Great food with convenient location. We even brought the family dog.
Z Cafe and Bar is consistently good! Food is prepared well and tasty; drinks are reasonably priced and delicious; and service comes with a smile!! We dine here often.
Has Valentine's dinner with their set menu. All the items were delicious. Waiter was very friendly, fun and attentive. It was a relaxing enjoyable evening.
Decided to try something new and it was fantastic! Super friendly server and great drink options. Super yummy food!
This was out 1st time to Z Cafe. The restaurant is very charming as previously part of an auto dealer. Very retro. Food was good & service very attentive. Tends to be quite loud as the restaurant fills up. Great place to stop Pre-theater.
I met a friend here for my "pre-birthday" celebration. The ambiance was great, our waiter was AMAZING and very loving and thoughtful. It was my pre birthday and he put a candle in my dessert. A diner next to me paid for my drink because she knew it was my birthday. This place is beautiful and amazing. I chose this restaurant during Oakland Restaurant Week because they are one of the few that donate proceeds to the Alameda County Food Bank and that really matters to me. This restaurant is a gem and great dining experience, please go!
Really nice - we will return
Had a great dinner here. The place was buzzing with a convivial crowd. I loved my cucumber basil martini. The waitress was great - friendly, with good advice and great timing. Refilled my ice tea frequently. Blackened chicken Alfredo was hearty & delish. The Star was the garlic prawn appetizer - the best version of this classic Spanish tapas dish I’ve had in the Bay Area. Order it spicy! I will definitely return.
Once again, beautiful service & accommodation for our group of six. Usually everybody only loves their own mom's meatloaf, but 5 of our 6 love the meatloaf - don't get me wrong, we all still love Moms' meatloaves too, but Z's meatloaf is yummy. Mashed potatoes & sauce and vegetable - perfect! Also, we are totally in love with the chicken tortilla soup. Next time I eat there, I am tempted to order 2 bowls - it is so fresh & delicious I really could eat at least 2 bowls. Did I ever mention the awesome & really good Manhatten? I always request extra cherry juice (graciously granted) and it is such a pretty, elegant drink. Great Happy Hour Menu too for drinks & appitizers. I love everything they serve but these days after the holiday eating, I am ordering the tortilla or tomato soup and the Apple Walnut Salad - romaine hearts, Fuji apple slices, blue cheese, glazed walnuts, raspberry vinaigrette - ALWAYS the very freshest ingredients. We often eat here with our adult children who both live in Oakland( they are semi-Millennials, and definitely foodies) and they always enjoy the dinners too!
Office party
Cute place for a quick bite to eat -- okay but nothing special
We had my step daughters engagement dinner here and we all really enjoyed our selected dinners. The only issue, and our newly trained waiter did the best he could, was he was the ONLY waiter that night. It all worked out, next time we stop in I'm sure he'll be the best waiter in the Z Cafe and Bar.
Food was excellent but the noise level was unbearable
Very inconsistent service but very sincere and cheerful. Food was really quite good. Dining room is very spacious and not crowded at all. Weirdly there were televisions, which sort of detracted from the fine-dining feel and gave it more of a sports bar ambience. Overall good but not what I would call high end.
We frequently eat at the "Z" and have never been disappointed. Every dish we have tried , and that is many, is always very fresh and perfectly presented and delicious! The restaurant is always very clean and the setting is delightful! The pork chop is wonderful, always cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful. The burgers are also very good - including the Z burger, vegan burger & topless burger. Tough choice to choose the salad I want - they are all great - so very fresh! Pastas - always yum. My GF sister can always find something she can eat ---- and enjoy, because Z never sacrifices on flavor just to make it gluten free. Z is definitely one of our favorite places!
Salmon was fantastic, NOT shared.
Salad greens were crisp without too much dressing
Spicy Shrimp were great as usual, shared.
Dining companion would NOT share her Blackened fish.
Blueberry Bread pudding was a pleasent surprise, shared.
This is a fairly ordinary restaurant with average food and very attentive service. The food isn't bad by any means; the menu is extensive; and the prices are quite reasonable. I just mean that it's ordinary. If you want a decent lunch at decent prices, go here. I'd go back.
I have eaten at Z Cafe on a number of occasions. Although I would like more variety in their menu, I can usually find something to enjoy.
Food and drinks are always good. We go to Z's often and always have a great meal.
This is a good restaurant but nothing spectacular. Service is very attentive and prices are quite reasonable for the quality. I had tomato soup and grilled cheese, both fine. The small salad was perhaps the best part of the meal, although the bruschetta was also good. I would go back.
Joined for business lunch break. Great food. Great service.
Fantastic good, delicious drinks, wonderful service and great value!
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always consistently good though not sophisticated. The service is always outstanding Consistently my go to restaurant on a regular basis 3
My dining companion said she was not very hungry. We shared the Spicy Shrimp appetizer (shrimp have gotten smaller), a side of Vegetables, and the Lobster Ravioli. The Mushroom Cream Sauce for the very tasty Lobster Ravioli was outstanding. Judy was our fabulous wait person, we were there for 3 hours with 3 Martinis and 2 Margaritas. A good time was had by all, Medhi included.
the food was just OK. Mine was delivered lukewarm.
Service was phenomenal. Atmosphere was nice. I could have a business meeting and still glance up at the Warriors game. The drinks were so-so but the burger was outstanding! I would definitely return for another burger.
The menu is reminiscent of a Dennys-type place, with appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches and some entrees thrown in. Good service, but the food was just mediocre. Example: vegetarian vegetable soup was tasteless and so spicy as to be inedible, ribs were tender, but had not flavor. Blackened tilapia was the same. The green salad with chicken was better than anything else anyone had.
Not going back.
Ample portions of classic dishes. Blackened fish was espegood
Excellent venue and food. Service was great. I will definitely go back.
Love this place.
Good food, very reasonable pricing for the quality. Good fish and a side of plenty of aldente vegetables, not drowning in butter. The Valentine's Day special (which are usually overpriced at most places) was actually a better deal than the regular menu. What a nice change! Service was good. Owner was very nice and accommodating. Not too noisy even though it has hard surfaces and high ceilings.
Overall all my friend and I had an okay experience. They seemed understaffed and overwhelmed with orders. It took 20 mintues before the wait staff offered us water and bread. The wait for our entree and cocktails went about the same. The little staffed they had seemed rushed and not that happy. Every thank you shared by my friend and I was answered with silence.
I was surprised the wait staff didn't return to ask if my friend and I wanted a second round on cocktails when we were done. The bartender who made my peach mojito, by far the best I had in awhile. it Dessert was the highlight of the entire night.
Again, underwhelmed by my dining experience. If staffing is an issue, I hope this gets addressed before the next dine about town week happens. If we go back, it will be for cocktails and dessert.
Enjoy the value menu for Resturant week, it was a four coarse meal. Delicious!
My wife and I went there to celebrate our 48th anniversary and Oakland Restaurant Week. The food was delicious, with generous portions, the service was excellent, the servers friendly and helpful, and the cost very reasonable. We especially enjoyed the ribs, tilapia, and eggplant parmigiana. The Caesar salad contained anchovies in it like it was supposed to have. The restaurant itself was clean and attractive, yet it felt relaxed and comfortable. We plan to return sometime soon.
For our first time here, we took advantage of Restaurant Week. We had a very nice meal with great cocktails and a nice bottle of wine. Price point was very reasonable and a good value. Service was very friendly. Had the feel of a "neighborhood place." We studied the regular menu and thought that we would like to return and try other things. Can't beat a cocktail hour that lasts from 4 to 10 pm. Would recommend it to others.
