Tarragon Crab Cakes
lightly seared blue crab meat, garlic, lemon juice and tarragon aioli
battered chicken breast, panko, italian seasoning, lemon sauce, capers, garlic mashed potatoes
white fish blackened with spices, topped with avocado salsa, served with basmati rice, sauteed vegetables
Our order was taken wrong. Appetizer was forgotten. Food cold due to delay with appetizer. Waitress didn’t write anything down. We had 3 different people serving us even though the place wasn’t that busy. Very noisy. Order arrived wrong as well. Good underwhelming for what we paid. Not fresh. Server never came back for drink refills. Poor experience and surprised it was like this on a non-busy night.
Great service! Our waitress was super-friendly and accommodating. Food was delish.
Had lunch here with a friend. It's so nice to be able to eat inside again. Tables are spaced out. The menu isn't as huge as it used to and I get the issues. The quality of the food and portion sizes are outstanding. The service is top notch.
They even served us bread and butter to start.
Very friendly service, food and drinks were good. Not a destination but if you are in the neighborhood, a great choice. The noise level due to the acoustics was the only down side to the place.
Food was delicious. Got good service. Would recommend to friends
The restaurant took real good care of my group. We were a bit demanding but all of our needs were met beyond expectation!
Crab cakes were superb! Everything, including martinis was fabulous with thoughtful fun server and delicious salad, burger, chicken Marsala. Top notch! Lots of room inside
Finally found a dish I did not like, do not know why I ordered the Chicken Marsala cause I do not like the wine. Everything else was its usual very good.
Beautiful and clean interior, delicious food, and warm service. I will definitely be coming back to this elevated, yet unpretentious restaurant. Five stars!
Tried the Crab Cakes with sauces on the side, very good. Also the Smothered Chicken and the Cheesecake with Strawberries. Usually do not have dessert but this was very good as was the chicken.
Tried to NOT order the Spicy Shrimp...FAILED. Also had the Blackened Tilapia which was very good. Slowly eating my way through the entire menu.
Tried the Rocky Chicken Breast Burger (not the chicken patty) T'was very good, also had the Special of the Day which was the Santa Fe salad with Avocado (too much dressing). The Spicy Prawns are always great,
Came here on a whim after spending the day at the zoo. Our server Misty was fantastic, prompt, and friendly. The bartender (whom I don’t recall his name, but he had cornrows!) made speedy and well balanced cocktails, and would come back for those alone. The food was incredible-I recommend the garlic prawn appetizer and the lobster ravioli! I will definitely be back!
Had my usual Spicy Shrimp, the new cooks are good, they do NOT over cook the shrimp. Trying something new, the Chicken Picata with Garlic Mashed Potatos. Will have this dish again before moving to something else
Worth a little delay in getting seated, once we were seated service was excellent, food delivered fast and delicious, and an overall very good time.
Had my usual double Titos, Spicy shrimp, Bacon Cheese Burger and a side of Spinach. They have had to hire new cooks and my shrimp dish was better (not over cooked)
Great little gem in the neighborhood. The service was excellent, food was well prepared, very tasty. Our server, Mona, was outstanding . We will be back. In a historically older building . Great architecture. All around an excellent experience.
Very loud unfortunately.
Vegetables were just ok. Portion good but steamed vegetables are just ordinary.
As always, excellent food and service. A great neighborhood gathering place!
Good neighborhood comfort food oriented restaurant. Lively bar scene. Courteous and professional wait staff.
We always enjoy dining at Z's. It happens to be close enough for us to walk to, but if you have to drive, well worth getting there! A small neighborhood cafe with excellent food.
Exceptional service and food!!!!! The staff is very attentive and the food was delicious. Well stocked bar.
Service is getting worse by the day. Used to frequently visit this establishment. Will not be returning.
Very quiet , Sat 6:15 PM.
Loved the lobster ravioli and the eggplant parm stacks.
Sautéed spinach fresh but oversalted
Veggie burger good but not amazing
Service was warm and attentive but not intrusive.
Easy street parking
I accidentally went here for a birthday dinner. The food was great and it feels fancy without costing fancy. We returned the next weekend. This restaurant will definitely be on our rotation of favorites!
Service was slow but food was great
We went to this restaurant for Oakland Restaurant Week and had the $40 special. The appetizers and salads were good, but our pot roast entrees were very disappointing. The meat was on the dry side and stringy and there was minimal sauce to add some moisture. The mash potatoes tasted like it came out of a box.
Went there for Oakland Restaurant Week with 3 others and had a great time. Food was excellent especially the pot roast, apple walnut salad, chicken piccata and bread pudding. Lively atmosphere, extensive cocktail menu and awesome service. We'll definitely be coming back!
Really enjoyed the good food and the ambiance. Not enough help for a Sat. night which might have been due to restaurant week.
All three of us ordered different items and they were all very good. I'm sure I'll be back.
We were a party of 8 celebrating a birthday and had a wonderful time.
visited for Oakland Restaurant Week with 3 friends and had the Mississippi pot roast and grilled salmon....delicious! I'm not one to get pot roast but Z Cafe and Bar made a flavorful, tender one that was definitely a generous portion.
The crab cakes with tarragon sauce was ok....i prefer a crunchier exterior and the breading was soggy BUT they use plenty of crab without a lot of filler which was a major plus....all the salads offered for the evening Caesar's, Z House Salad and the Fuji apple were wonderful...lightly dressed.
Drinks were on point! had the Blueberry lemon drop and it was FANTASTIC....reasonable HH pricing...even at regular pricing it was the best! highly recommend dining here and will return to try their infamous Lobster ravioli...
Did the Oakland Restaurant Week menu to get away from all of my old standbys. Had the Crab cakes and Bruschetta the Mississippi River Pot Roast, House Salad, and Flourless Chocolate cake. Everything was very good, surprised by the pot roast.
I was looking forward to dining at this restaurant with my family to Celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season (for us), but was disappointed. It's a sad place with no ambiance or character. Food and service were just acceptable.
Had my usual Spicy Shrimp and Tito's and added the Pulled Pork with Roasted Garlic Fries...Great!!!
Great food and service! Hope to visit again soon!
Nice place for a quiet weekday dinner.
Very good happy hour drink. Food was very tasty with a laid back atmosphere.
Reservation at 6pm, Place is busy......nice ambiance, friendly and attentive server, other than 2-4 people at 4-5 tables dining, there were two separate large parties celebrating (one party in a separate private room).....place has a nice bar.
my entree (blackened tilapia, veggies, balsamic rice) was yummy and I ate all my veggies as it had a garlic infused flavor to the mix of broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, carrots..
My friend ordered bunless burger with fruits, and it was a good size burger, fruit looked fresh but I don’t know since it’s late season/November.
