My husband and I don't normally eat sushi, but this restaurant opened up just around the corner from us, so we decided to try it. We loved it. The menu was inviting even to those of us who don't know much about sushi and our server was very good at explaining the various "rolls" and soups to us. We enjoyed all of it. We were a little surprised that there weren't more wines to choose from, but the bottle of sauvignon blanc was terrific. We'll be back!
The ambiance was chic industrial with cool wild art painted on the walls. Service was warm, competent, efficient. I loved the sushi with tempura flakes in the rice and lots of choices with mango. Really delicious and fresh! Excited to go back and try the okumase.
Though a little pricey and a little noisy at points I can't rate my experience at Yume anything short of 5 stars. The service was incredible, outshone only by the quality of the food. Yes it can be expensive but everything I ordered felt worth the price paid and then some. The chefs took me on a gosh dang culinary journey. Some dishes were delicate, some spicy, some fruity, some had incredible umami and in all of them the fish was the star. How they accomplished such a wide variety of textures and flavors using almost exclusively ingredients from the sea is beyond my reckoning. I can only conclude that they are wizards who perform their magic via rice and knife rather than wand.
If you aren't sure what to order get whatever is fresh and don't be afraid to rely on the recommendations of your servers or the chefs, they will not steer you wrong. I will warn you that this is not a traditional sushi experience like you would find at some other notable local sushi stops. If that's what you are looking for, you may not find it here, but what you will find is unique and worth experiencing. Where else in town will you find Lavender Smoked Salmon Nigiri?
I may not be able to afford to eat here regularly but by god I'd show up every night if I could.
The food and ambiance had a very modern-chic vibe, and seemed like it would be great place to have a more up-scale date without being too expensive. The only downfall I found was that the restaurant itself is a bit crowded, so if you’re seated at a table anywhere other than next to the main walking area, you have to squeeze by other tables and customers (even if you’re a relatively small person).
A neighborhood more upscale sushi restaurant. We live in the hood and still like it.....have been there a few times. Will keep walking back. A cool vibe and good food but small portions.
Terrible sushi, rice was mushy, sauces tasted bad, took to friends here because the reviews were good, VERY disappointed
Amazing experience. Staff and chef are great. Sushi is excellent and chef prepares it in front of you with such care. A true artisan. One of our favorite spots!! Thank you!!
We really enjoyed dining there. Inside is very nice and modern and really clean!!!!
The sushi was great and the rolls were creative. Will definitely make way back here again
Knowing that this restaurant has only been open for 8 weeks, the service was incredibly slow and the wait staff did not know the menu. I probably won't come back.
It was delicious! Not too noisy and great ambiance!
Great food and ambiance. I definitely will be coming back.
Journey for the taste buds! Layers and layers of flavor
Nice buzzy atmosphere and fine sushi.
Trendy, interesting sushi restaurant. A bit loud, even on a Sunday evening. We would like to come back during lunch and sit at the sushi bar.
Excellent food, quality and service
OK, let me start by saying WE LOVE MASTER CHEF P (MCP)! 🤣😂 Yes, we renamed him! He has been serving us for years prior to him opening this OUTSTANDING restaurant.
We had reservations for V-Day and we were the first couple there. Upon entering, Master Chef doubles back from prepping for one of his many big days of the year to welcome us with such warmth and appreciation with hugs and laughter and memories! It was a great start to a PERFECT NIGHT!
Now let's get down to the good stuff - food and ambiance! 🤤😍💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾 Nothing but the BEST OF EVERYTHING! The food was and always has been breathtakingly OUTSTANDING! I'm talking fresh, clean, rare, and a one-of-a-kind experience. The decor? Sheesh! I need him to come decorate/design my home. It was just beautiful. My husband definitely picked a winner with this spot!
Last, but not least, since we arrived so early, we were the only customers at the time and my husband got down on one knee and renewed our vows and the whole damn restaurant knew about it before me! It was so touching! Valentine's Day 2019 will forever be memorable thanks to my other half and our special friends @ YumeSushi! We love you Master Chef P! And, your staff! Thanks for the videos/pics and the forerver memories! 😍 ❤ Check out the other pics on my Google review - 4 is the limit here 😫😫
Was dine in with my 5 other friends ,had great experience . Great food and excellent service ,great place for hand out .
It is the best sushi I have had in a long time. Very tasty and steps above what you can find at your usual sushi restaurants in the area.
Great food, great service and close to home. I lived in Japan for 2 years and this is some amazing sushi.
Moderate to high quality sushi. Place looks cool. Some dishes took an extremely long time to come out of the kitchen. Way too expensive for what it is.
I mean the following comment as more factual and not derogatory. I would call this eatery “Foo Foo” or “Designer” sushi. A bit pricey and the portions are small. Which is great if that’s what you’re into but not really for me.
Food was excellent. Service and ambiance were great too.
Inventive. Delicious. Chef Peter is proud of his craft, no doubt.
VERY slow. Took over two hours from being seated to getting served. My friend has a severe allergy and they served food with allergen in it. Avoid.
We consider this a most excellent restaurant with delicious food, elegantly presented and very welcoming and attentive staff.
Small portions and poor service. They forgot an item after we asked about it 6+ times. They tried to make it right by deducting some from the bill, but it still resulted in a poor first impression.
Very poor, slow service. Food was expensive and not very good.
Great restaurant. Food was wonderful and the service was quick and friendly. Highly recommended this place for sushi!
I have been waiting for Yume Sushi to open for months now! I had the pleasure to have Chef Peter host my 30th Birthday due to his extensive background in Japanese cuisine. I studied in Japan for years and after returning to America, it has been difficult to find a sushi place that's affordable and good quality. Chef Peter and his team delivers all the time!! I invited all my friends from Atlanta, Pittsburgh, New York City and Richmond, VA to my birthday dinner and they have all said, "I feel spoiled! Is this FOIE GRAS!?" Majority of their products are from Spain, California, Hokkaido (scallops and uni) and more importantly, Tsukiji Market!! TSUKIJI MARKET!!!!! You really must know the vendors very well there!! With the prices this restaurant gives us, it just blows my mind!! They have fresh TORO that is delivered on "same day" flight. Yes - I asked all these questions bc most sushi places don't even KNOW where they get their products from. Don't you want to know where you get your food from?
I went to the soft opening, my friends came to his opening night from Richmond, Va (2 hour drive) just to eat his food!! I am located in Silver Spring, MD and I proudly take the metro (1 hour 20 min) just to eat there. I simply can not go anywhere else! If you do not know what you want to eat, the staff will kindly help you decide by matching your taste palette. If you like spicy or sweet - or looking for something authentic, YUME SUSHI IS THE PLACE! I now only ask, "what are the specials? What got flown in today?" They also have OMAKASE (7 course chef choice). The price of the Omasake is HEAVEN! New York charges over $200 and Sushi Taro (located in D.C) is expensive to a point they can charge whatever they feel.
This place is also perfect for 1 seating. The staff are so funny and have fun to talk to.
FYI - The Winner and the Uni Shooter is DA BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMBBB!!!!!
Just a phenomenal lunch. We are still talking about it. Fish was so fresh; service was warm and gracious.
Good new restaurant
Portions are small (rolls)
However, a few rolls & specials are very good
Unfortunately, the a la carte sushi is not as fresh, not a lot of options, and is only 1 piece
Consequently, the value for the quality & quantity is disappointing + they don't tell you until you arrive there is no alcohol license yet
Great new place. Love the tapas style plates. Definitely allows you to try many different rolls with your table.
Food was excellent. Like the fact that the food is fresh and the prices were good for quality fish.
Restaurant just opened and the staff is extremely attentive. Looking forward to the sake selection they will have.
Must try’s rolls are the Winner, Creamy Scallop, Tuna Tartare and Spicy Miso soup with crab.
The Omakase is a must also. Chef Peter does an amazing job.
Small portions and rolls. Good but very expensive for what you get
The edamame was mushy and miso soup was lukewarm and way too much broth so the ratio was off. For a japanese place to mess those two things up wasn’t a good sign. We ended up getting the rolls because the nigiri was priced way too high. And after having the rolls, it was a good choice because the fish is not as fresh and flavorful to justify the high price. Great ambiance for a date night or special occasion and plating looks really great. If you are a sushi lover and want good sushi though, this is not the place to go.
Great fresh sushi and awesome for a quick date night.
Truly the best sushi....worthy of a 5 star restaurant! It’s brand new with a soft opening but people kept streaming in. Reservations suggested....this place will definitely be super popular. High quality ingredients, very skilled artistic sushi chefs and reasonable prices. The bar will be open next week. So thrilled it’s in my neighborhood since we can walk there.
Excellent omakase. Inventive and delicious. Best in Northern Virginia.
The food took a long time to arrive. One of the kid’s order was last to arrive, and it took 25 minutes. The food taste okay but the portion was very small. A roll (usually $8 or $9) comes with 5 pieces. We ordered “the winner” as one of the appetizers. It was very good, but again tiny portion, not suitable for sharing. The servers were attentive. I wish they had prioritized the kids orders first instead of bring everything out all together. It took them over 20 minutes to bring out the seaweed salad. Overall, we had high expectations and were underwhelmed.
We followed chef Peter from the last restaurant in Del Ray to yume sushi, the "dream". He specializes in omakase and you should let his creation surprise you. Omakase ($85) is a 7-course yummlious meal, most courses are sashimi and may include a course of cooked seafood (e.g. steamed clams) and ends with a dessert. Love to sit at the counter and watch them work! Congratulations on the new restaurant!
The restaurant is absolutely amazing. The atmosphere was one of the best in the area and the food was out of this world. The Omakase dinner was well portioned and chef Peter walked you through every course. We look forward to a long future attending this restaurant.
