The room is large with very high ceilings, and the layout is not cozy, but the lighting was low which helps with atmosphere. Our server came over promptly and kept checking back appropriately. The chicken mole dish had some zip and was very satisfying. The French onion soup and kale/beet salad get two thumbs up. The glasses of wine we chose were tasty and the pour was generous. We will be back.

Our server was wonderful! And the food was delicious- a little pricey but that comes with being in Yosemite. Not as expensive as the Ahwahnee, and in my opinion better food!

Like all Yosemite dining, it seems impossible to create a special meal on a large scale, so you end up with semi- mass produced food served in a large dining room environment where customer service training is minimal and the staff are quite content showing up to work everyday with little ambition or drive to excel

Majority of the food was excellent - except for the Cowboy steak. Two both came very rare when ordering medium. Serving staff was great but waited a long time for food.

We had a group of nine. Most everyone really enjoyed their food. The bill arrived and had extra charges and the math did not work out. Tried to get it corrected and it came back with a gap in price. Subtotal was listed then tax, but grand total was $11.00 more. It was like they didn't use a computer... Took an extra 25 minutes which kind of ruined the good vibes.

I have been dining at this restaurant for many of the New Years eve events for the past 12 years. During the past 5 years or so, the food quality has gone down very low. Appetizers are cold and desserts are bland.

My wife & I went there for our wedding anniversary this past weekend Dec 2019 & had a great time.. Our only complaint were front desk staff were very short, basically rude. We understand they answer questions all day everyday but, they are customer service after all, other than that, great trip

Food is really not very good. Ambitious and looks good on plate but is tasteless, dry, boring in actuality. The ambience is great. Service was fine. We went foe Christmas Eve dinner. There are really no other options for fine dining in the park except for the Lodge which was booked up. For everyday try the Lounge next door. Also understand that being located in the park gives this restaurant extra challenges, if it had been anywhere else I would have given a worse review.

Wondeful location and ambiance. Service was impecable, our server, Lynn,was so friendly and helpful. We had very tasty vegan food, which is difficult for us to find in most restaurants.

The restaurant is not well marked. We walked around in the dark on a cold night looking for the entrance to the restaurant. We had to go through double doors that had another name over the restaurant. Food was good but service was rather gruff.

This was our second night at Mountain Room. We chose it partly for convenience - we could walk to it from our Yosemite Valley Lodge room and have a drink at the lounge on the way. Also it did not specify dress requirements as does the Ahwanee. We started with soup. My spouse felt the onion soup was as good as it could be, given that good bread isn't available for the layer under the cheese; we've had stronger beef stocks in some restaurants. The winter vegetable soup was excellent - sweet from the natural taste of the ingredients. Both very nice for a cold evening. We ordered the ribeye which is a large piece of meat. I knew it would probably be plenty for two people but I also ordered the mushroom vol-a-vent to come as a main course (it is usually an appetizer). the pastry in the vol-au-vent is good, but I felt that the mushrooms were too chewy and the pumpkin cubes as part of the filling didn't work well. The ribeye, ordered medium rare, had some parts more rare, others more medium, and some medium rare. A big (18 oz) piece of meat, perhaps difficult to control the cooking. Tasty, though. and the onion rings were great. Tonight's brussel sprouts hadn't been cooked enough, unlike last night. We ordered a poached pear for dessert and s hould have asked for a knife. It was not soft enough to cut with a spoon, though we worked hard and eventually did it. Tasty after the effort. We brought our own wine, so did not look at the wine list. A nice evening, a bit pricey compared to places outside Yosemite, but wonderful to be able to get food like this instead of having only the cafeteria as an option.

We went with another couple for the Vintners Holiday. The night we were here was relatively quiet with few diners. The food was the best outside of the Ahwahnee dining room. The pork chop was moist, veggies crisp tender and attractively plated. The other diners enjoyed Chicken Mole and filet mignon. Each person claimed this was a meal that surpassed the bar menu at The Ahwahnee. I agree. I was disappointed in the Ahwahnee Bar both by the drinks and the food. The Mountain Room outshined in both categories.

The Mountain Room is very close to Yosemite Lodge rooms, making it easy to walk to and from dinner - especially nice in rain and snow. The dining room is spacious. It was a bit cool in temperature Monday night, probably not yet warmed up after the weekend storm. It was less than half full, but diners were seated near one another to give it a nice feel. We chose meat entrees because we brought a nice bottle of wine to celebrate a birthday. The $15 corkage is certainly reasonable. The lamb shank and beef filet mignon were both nicely done, and the sides of brussel sprouts and Delmonico potatoes were good. We started with a Ceasar salad, splitting one large salad between two people, which worked well. Prices are about the same as the Ahwanee, not cheap, but food is definitely better than the cafeteria alternative.

We’ve been going to the Mountain Room for years and have always loved it. This time, we still loved it but with some caveats. The service was strange - our server balked at our request to put in our son’s order first, something we’ve never experienced at any restaurant anywhere. Then she proceeded to act offended when we politely declined bread, and Responded as if we had two heads when we requested a knife to help us eat the (amazingly delicious but hard to cut with a spoon) cookie in our dessert. We ended up laughing at it because it was just so strange. The other thing that had never happened before was that my trout was totally overcooked. It was hard and fishy tasting and sad, but I chose not to send it back because I wanted to eat at the same time as my husband and son, and I didnt want to deal with the server’s undoubtedly weird reaction if I did. Hopefully this was a one-time experience. We will definitely be back. And I have high hopes.

Went for thanksgiving dinner! The place is nice and was pretty seeing the snow outside the window. The service could have been better. She seemed very rushed and it wasn’t that busy as I have seen in the past years so we couldn’t figure out why she was rushed. I liked how they included the soup and salad along with a dessert they use to include a beverage but didn’t see that this year. The hostess were really friendly and the nice gentleman who came around to refill water was fabulous! The one great improvement were their rolls. They were amazing! The filet was nice with the sauce but the potatoes not so good (they seemed liked they weren’t cooked through all they way). My suggestion would be to go back to those yummy mashed potato’s you have done in the past years. Thanks!

Our main course serving six was brought out over a period of 10 minutes. Half the table was done eating before the other half received the plates. One side was forgotten and brought out 10 minutes after the last plate was served. The food was good, the evacuation was not.

Very limited dining options in Yosemite. We were guided to the Mountain Room by reservationist. I ordered the small filet medium and it came out rare. Tried to eat it and ended up sending back. It came back 10 minutes later ....cold. Was not cooked. Husbands cowboy steak was not a good piece of meat. Ambiance was nice and our server Vince was one of the best we’ve ever had. He even made thousand island dressing for my husband.

Qualified “yes”, however. Our server was great and informative, the atmosphere and decor was quite pleasant, and the meal proportions were fine. We were pretty unimpressed with how the meals were prepared - trout was overcooked, Brussels sprouts did not have much flavor of the dressing they were prepared in and were overcooked as well. The dessert was so-so. On the other hand my steak was excellent. We’d recommend to friends that, for the prices of a dinner, they be very explicit in asking how each portion of a menu item is prepared and how they want it prepared, or stick to something that does not purport to have various treatments or garni since they may well be disappointed in the lack of flavors they are anticipating.

The servise did not match the price tag. We waited 10 minutes before anyone greeted us at our table. Our waitress was absent most of our meal. The restaurant was not busy at the time.

Had a great dinner and experience from the moment we arrived. Our waiter Noe was wonderful with his veteran professional service, menu suggestions, and welcoming attitude. Front desk staff and other dining room staff also did a great job. Our chicken and pork chop entrees were outstanding. Price point was certainly reasonable and the $15 corkage fee is very fair. As other reviews mention, this is not the Ahwahnee - but it’s not supposed to be. You can spend a lot less, dress casual, it’s perfect is you are staying at the lodge, and the separate bar next door is a good spot. Note that we were there during the off season and I could see that high season might be different but our experience was truly great.

We have enjoyed the Mountain Room many times in the past but this was the first time with the new concessionaire. While the evening was very enjoyed was compared the food with the Ahwahnee as we dined there the following night. The pricing in the Mountain room was high compared with the food choice at the Ahwahnee. I ordered the filet mignon dinner and received 3 small brussel sprouts on my plate! Unacceptable so I asked for more and did receive them as a side without being charged extra. Overall we will return again but the Ahwahnee Hotel wins hands down for a superb dining experience.

Extremely noisy with a person busing the tables and then forcing the plates and glasses into a plastic bin out on the main dining area and only 10 feet from our table. I spoke to the waitress about it and she said that there was nothing she could do about it.

Menu is very limited with chicken with mole sauce poured over it or farmed salmon or a $22 burger or a steak. The filet mignon that I had was very well cooked and a tender cut of meat but the one my wife got was undersized and overcooked. You get mashed potato with the entre along with overcooked Brussel sprouts and no options for anything else. Wine is overpriced considering what is being served and it is going to be a 1-year old wine at best so not really ready to drink.

If we were ever to stay at the Yosemite Valley Lodge again we would bring a hot plate and cook our own meals in the room.
