   Service was slow, staff inefficient and unfriendly. Steaks overcooked by quite a lot. Chips were excellent, no Dijon mustard. Excellent location but overall not a great experience. We’re local and will give it some time before we return in the hope that things improve. It was an early table on a Tuesday evening so no excuse really.

   I've eaten here a quite a few times now and always had a good experience. It is my husband's favourite restaurant though I've visited a few times with girlfriends too and the experience has been just as top quality. The staff are lovely, efficient and friendly. The food isn't weeny bowls where you leave feeling hungry and everything on the menu is worth eating! Can highly recommend :)

   Lovely space. One of us had really excellent food. The other had a problem with the mains. But the staff dealt with it really well. In fact the service was generally very good

   Was lovely food and very nice service! Did not get offered to take drink orders after our first drink but maybe that's because we looked like students - which we are!

   Second visit to the Refectory but dined inside this time .Meal was amazing ,service was also good . Would highly recommend .

   The hbest restaurant to eat in York ! Food is amazing and. Nothing was too much trouble. Made me a special smoked salmon starter … delicious can’t wait to come back Catterton

   Was attracted by the menu and booked for pre-theatre. Whilst early it was atmospheric with friendly and attentive staff. Each of our three courses were excellent. Please do try the tofu possett it was magnificent.
