York & Albany Ratings and Reviews
Never will you get board of this place with its great staff, fantastic beers and food that is always on point. Dukes is a gem in the heart of Dalston which is definitely worth seeking out if you want to let go of your meat inhibitions and compliment it with great ales and cocktails..
Oh and did I say the team there are great too!!!
Loved the elegant feeling of the place. The food was great, but at the same time the materials were kept simple and high quality. The attention from the staff was what you would except from a restaurant at this level with only some minor mistakes. We've got a complimentary anniversary plate with some ice cream and cookies, which was a lovely addition to our fantastic dinner. The prices are also completely acceptable considering the quality of the service and food. This place also has a bar area for pre-dinner chatting and a wine bar for post-meal discussions. Overall we've had a fantastic experience at one of Ramsay's more classic restaurants.
I had a tomato salad but the tomatoes were not sweet and were underipe. I liked the fish pie but I wouldn't say it was Gordon Ramsay standard. I have been to the tapas section before for a private party which was nice but didn't feel the food in restaurant was impressive. Service was brilliant and atmosphere was lovely. It's a shame.
We had the course meal with a pint for £24,when we arrived they didn't know about the offer, they told me they had to check with the manager. We ordered 3 starters,3mains and 3 sides and the sides came out when we were finishing our mains. When they brought out the sides they brought out an incorrect one and we told them that as we had finished our mains we didn't want it anymore.5 minutes later they brought us the correct side. They charged for the 3 sides although they were served when we had finished our mains. They didn't charge for a pint but we weren't expecting to be charge for the side either as we were completely full when they brought them out.Not impressed, terrible timings, front desk manager doesn't know about the deals they have on...never returning again.
Slow service (when you are with children, that is very irritating), waiter did not use pen and paper to write down the order (why not just write down the order?! mnemonics don’t exist in ordinary life) and eventually forgot(!) some positions (like olives or juice)...
Price of 50£ for a t-bone steak to be shared for 2 is ridiculously high. So you get 4 thin slices of meat and no sides.
Otherwise this is a nice place with good food.
I was so disappointed that this was a Gordon Ramsay restaurant and we had an awful cocktail (Campari and soda) served tepid water and my lemon meringue pie was frozen and when I showed the waitress she said I will tell the chef took it away and I never got a replacement and was still charged
Okay food - which for the price should be a lot higher. Fish and chips portion was acceptable but the bear batter fish was tough and too crisp. Pasta meatballs arrived without meatballs. Drinks were served once we'd recieved main course. Persistently had to chase the waitress for service and it wasn't even that busy. A real shame because I've used this place for about 5 years - I even had my wedding reception here. So a big big disappointment. Decor is looking well past it's best too. Sorry Gordon, but your gem needs a good polish.
Had viewed menu prior to arrival and decided on a pizza. We're handed the menus on arrival, and when it came to ordering, told the pizza oven is broken. No apology. Had to decide on something else there and then, but didn't fancy anything so returned what I ordered and requested not to be charged for it. Still charged for it. Shame because the place is lovely and the bar service was great.
Very good and wel presented breakfast - both choices and quality - and assiduous attention to dietary intolerances. Minor quibble with the coffee - 4 ordinary coffees and 3 refills came to over £17 and cups were all only half full. A cafetiere option would be good! Overall, recommended, and proximity to the Park is a plus.
The food is excellent but the staff do not have it together whatsoever. We made reservations for 5:30 and were seated however the hostess neglected to tell us we wouldn't see a server for 15 minutes due to their evening briefing. Numerous staff and hostesses who passed by our table failed to even acknowledge our existence in the meantime. Server showed up, was apologetic, and took our order. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco and two mains. Prosecco did not show up for another 15 minutes. Gluten free bread that had been promised also another 15 minutes. Mains came out and were excellent, a drastic change from the rest of the experience. The food here is great and worthy of Ramsay's name - the service is bottom of the barrel and is not.
It was Sunday afternoon & as such we given the Sunday menu. Unfortunately by 6pm they had sold out of most items on the menu however I could deal with that.
The most disappointing factor was the price of the dishes in relation to how much protein you were given.
My date ordered a beef roast dinner which cost £27 so you would assume that you would get a decent portion of beef for that price. No, the kitchen provided two very thin slices of roast beef which we complained about. The lovely waitress kindly got another slice from the kitchen.
My dish was a so called Fish & Chips for £17.5 which was in fact a posh version of a few small pieces of fish goujons and lots & lots of chunky chips!! Not value for money at all. Go somewhere else with your hard earned money!
Overall would not come back here or recommend to others. It wasn't clear on the booking that 11-12 is an hour switch between breakfast and lunch where you can't get either menu and there are different seating areas. As a result we were told to hurry with our orders and not able to sit where we wanted. We were then persistently told the place was fully booked and to leave our table before our end time at 1pm. This is not the way you want to spend breakfast. There were 8 customers on our table that would have returned had it been a good experience. It is a pity the service did not match up to the ambience. I expected better from a Gordon Ramsey restaurant.
