   Had a delicious bottle of sake and a meal that felt authentically Japanese. A tasting menu that sustainably uses every part of the chicken. Juicy chicken meatballs, Oden, and wagyu beef with gold flakes were some of the highlights.

   New favorite restaurant. The chef is a total genius and this restaurant deserves Michelin attention. Impeccable service, ambiance, flavor & creativity. Bravo!! Everything was amazing. Can’t wait to go back for more!!!

   It was my birthday party with close friends. Very nice place, they have updated their menu entirely since my last visit but still good! I would highly recommend the 🍶selection. 5 different types of drinks and all of them are really good! The 4 people table is a very private room and very comfortable. We had a great time there!

   We had the best dinner, the food was outstanding and the sake pairing was perfect. Ryan gave us amazing service, walking us through each dish and pairing and teaching us about the exquisite dishes. We laughed, we cried (that black cod), it was a great night.

    My partner and I had an amazing dinner at Yopparai Ronin. We were looking for good Japanese food on our last day in town and were pleasantly surprised to find a same-day reservation available at a nice place like this. We went in not quite knowing what to expect, especially since some old photos online made it look like this place is a rock-and-roll themed Japanese bar (it isn't, and those were photos from before they renovated and rebranded. Also note this place is different from the sister restaurant down the street just called Yopparai). We were so we glad we went. The food was top-notch. They serve a six-course omakase tasting menu, with some options to choose from for one of the courses. We loved every dish we had. The food is fresh and seasonal; they revamp their menu every few months and had a couple of specials available to choose from as well. The sake pairing was also delicious, and I'd recommend adding it on if it's in your budget. The service was above and beyond. The staff was super friendly and knowledgable. Our main waiter made great dinner conversation and even taught us a bit about Japanese culture. After our meal was over, he even hooked us up with a table at the speakeasy bar next door (where we also had a great time). I'm definitely going to tell my friends about this place, and I hope to come back next time I'm in NYC.

    I feel like I went into this experience unprepared, but the staff was so accommodating and helpful explaining things to me that I was new to. Everything was delicious and I wish I could go back soon. If I could give a higher rating for the service I would.

    My friend and I had an excellent omakase set last evening. Our host, Kevin, took excellent care of us, explaining carefully what we were eating and drinking. The room was pleasant, quiet, and elegant. The food, even were it not properly explained, was interesting -- different tofus, little shrimp meatballs, smoked duck, sashimi, NY trout,... -- and all honestly delicious. I highly recommend this place (but please, stay away so that I can get a seat next time).

    Booked counter for two to celebrate our anniversary on a Saturday night. Fantastic service, first and foremost. Kevin and Ryan walked us personally through every course, gave excellent sake pairings, and even stuck around with us after the meal to share multiple celebratory drinks (the smoothest Green Tea Shochu you'll ever taste...) on the house. Food was excellent. The right mix of temperatures, textures, and flavors, paced perfectly. Great price point, too. Very cozy, intimate ambience. Felt like we were the only people in the restaurant, with VIP access to staff. Slightly speakeasy vibe from outside, without super-prominent visibility from street. Amazing experience. Very happy to celebrate our anniversary there and will definitely go back as they keep iterating on the omakase!

    A gem of a restaurant. We felt very special having such comfortable seats in such an intimate setting that had very charming decorations. It easily felt like you were in Japan.

    The menu, ingredients and preparation were very unique and tasted like it was culturally authentic (I've only visited Kyoto once). The outdoor dining allowed us the opportunity to sit in a traditional dining booth but with a heated space for your legs. The server (Kevin) timed the serving of the dishes at a very good pace. We were informed on how to eat the food properly and given the details of all the ingredients. It felt like taking a trip to Kyoto and was very delicious and enjoyable.

    A unique Japanese restaurant in NYC. The full course of food brings many surprises to me. Most people think that Japanese food is Ramen or Sushi, here, Yopparai gives you a different view. In addition to traditional sashimi, the main course includes Sukiyaki, Seafood Tofu Casserole, Udon noodle, and Miso Soup with Rice (and more). This is a completely different experience from the traditional sushi course. My friend and I actually enjoyed those different types of Japanese food and Japanese culture. Btw, add $20 for Wagyu is highly recommended... The place is not big and reservation only. My friend and I had a two-person space which is sweet and quiet. The services are also great, the waiter is very nice and patient. Even the price is a little bit higher than other Japanese restaurants, I still highly recommend everyone who loves Japanese food to have a try!

    This was an amazing experience. The first thing I noticed was that the service was stunning. Kevin was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the food as well as the history of Yopparai/Yopparai Ronin itself, and gave detailed recommendations on how to use the sauces, how long to cook the sukiyaki, etc. The food was delicious - the sukiyaki wagyu beef dipped in the raw egg accompaniment had a slight sweetness that I especially loved. The presentation was incredibly artful with every individual mushroom, slice of daikon radish, or sliver of snow crab carefully arranged in a pleasing way. I've been to kaiseki restaurants like Odo, Tsukimi, etc. that are twice the price and while those were also beautiful experiences, I personally felt like this was just as good overall, and even better in some ways. A tremendous value.

    Very classy, well done, well staffed and well informed menu in a quiet romantic venue. Would highly recommend if you're looking for an immersive menu that doesn't require a lot of thought on your part, since all of the detailed thinking has been taken care of.

    Hmmm… Maybe I am being harsh but for $420 for two people, I expected a lot more… You’d go anywhere with the amount and it will be better food than here… sorry… just everything was not going together…. Unagi Ochazuke was really weird with sauce and all… most food was just burdock roots and mushrooms. Outdoor traditional table was a good idea but it gets cold really quick and the waiter doesn’t help turning it back on…. Waiter seemed like he wanted to explain the food but wasn’t sure he cared whether we were comfortable or anything. Still gave 20% tip but just wanted to add that it would have been nice if the kotatsu didn’t turn off the mid dining and became too cold to sit out. Food really wasn’t good at all. I’m sorry…
