Yono's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This was Indonesian food at its best, with delicate and varied seasonings. The menu choices were varied and we had good advice from Joshua who was the captain of our team of servers. Don't be fooled into thinking that this was stuffy. They were lovely, unobtrusive and helpful. The music was a live pianist and the sound level comfortable and appropriate for this quality food. (Not so at DB next door which was painfully noisy. Both restaurants are located in the Hampton Inn in Albany.) The menu is pricey but with Joshua's advice we ordered a tasting menu and 2 apps; along with one drink and dessert it came to @ $100 which was very reasonable for the level and amount of food. We couldn't eat the free petit fours and took them with us.
My company had a work dinner with a vendor at this establishment and the servers exceeded our expectations. They were very knowledgable, friendly and very attentive to our requests. I have been to this restaurant several times for work and I have never been disappointed in the service or the food at Yono's.
Thank you for such a great experience.
My husband and I have been to Yono's several times now and every time there is one outstanding aspect that we like to comment about. It goes without saying that the food at Yono's is impeccable, every time. However, this time we were honored to have Adam as our waiter. Attentive, polite, knowledgeable, personable, with a sense of humor. All without going over the top. Hard to do when dealing with the public on a daily basis. But, he does, and he does it well. So, thank you Adam. We hope to see you again.
I just went back to Yono's for an anniversary, and was reminded why I like this restaurant so much. The food is just fabulous. The waitstaff is excellent without being overbearing, and it is reassuring to see Yono himself in the place, chatting with customers. The wine list is extremely extensive - well beyond my capability to choose. There was no live music the night we went, so it was quiet, perfect for a romantic dinner.
Delicious choices of summer tastes...the compressed watermelon chef compliment appetizer was the perfect start to tempt the palate.
The soy curried tuna sashimi was delightul with the avocado and lime creme fraiche..all flavors were fresh, prepared with care and it showed through its presentation and its delivery. The waiter and waitresses were polite, friendly and had just the right timing.
We were a little worried about Yono's because it was located in a Hampton Inn, not the usual spot for an upscale restaurant. And then when we first entered the bar we became more concerned, it was crowded and very noisy. Then they ushered us into the separate fine dining area and everything changed. It was quiet and beautifully appointed. The food was superb and service excellent. There was a team of three serving our table and their efforts were perfect. When it took a little longer than expected to get our main courses out we were rewarded with a complimentary glass of wine. Good food and service in a beautiful setting, not to be missed in Albany.
The hostesses were extremely rude. Our reservation was at 7, it took them 15 minutes to set a table for us and they put us in a walkway. I asked to move one table over which the hostesses found to be inconvenient. We weren't seated until 7:30. The hostesses were clearly perturbed. Only one other table came in after us and the restaurant was half full. there was no rush for tables.
The server worked in tandem with another server. One of them dropped several pieces of bread on the floor while serving it to us. The other lingered too long at our table, trying to join us in our conversation. I felt like it was a restaurant parody.
I decided on the 8 course Grand Tasting with the Wine Pairing well before I had walked in the door. I did my research, checked the website, and read reviews. I began with a warm welcome from the staff and was seated in the dining room. I had a later reservation and some of the tables had been turned for the last time of the evening. As far as the decor is concerned, stunning. The service, flawless. The food, impressive. The fusion of Classic American and Indonesian exuded decadence. I was given detailed explanations of all plates and their accompanying wines, all the way down to region, and technique for production. I moved from course to course and was satisfied if not blown away. If you want to experience Yono's, the Grand Tasting is best
This was our first dinner at Yono's & we are anxious to go back. Each table has 2 waitstaff to serve & follow up to be certain that all was to our satisfaction. They were aware that we were going to attend a show in town after dinner & the meal was completed exactly on time. Thel Diver's scallops for an appetizer were perfectly prepared. The pork loin was to perfection with an light and delicious sauce. The assorted vegetable were also perfect with a firm and sweet taste. My wife had the crispy chicken breast and a light curried sauce that went perfectly with the chicken. The waitstaff was enthusiastic of their assorted breads. Loved them...especially the pretzel bread & their version of Italian bread. A wonderful meal all around!!!
This restaurant is quite simply amazing! I lived in NYC for 10 years, and we have eaten in some amazing restaurants there and around the world (including some listed on Gayot's 40 best restaurants in the US), and Yono's easily makes the top of our list of dining favorites. The bread selection was interesting and plentiful. The cocktails were wonderfully prepared and presented. And the grand tasting menu was a delightful and amazing culinary experience. Add to that the pleasant, attentive, and even fun demeanor of the staff, the lightly played live music, and the dining room's ambiance, and what you have in total is an amazing dining experience. Without question, we will return as often as possible.
Do yourself a favor and go here. Every bite is an experience to be savored. The wine pairings are outstanding. The service is impeccable yet warm and friendly. The ambience is stellar. My husband and I experienced a romantic and sensually infused evening that we will never forget. The ultimate dining gem in Albany -- we cannot wait to return. Absolutely outstanding in every way from start to finish.
My husband and I had a Groupon for this restaurant and decided to go there for our wedding dinner. The staff were impeccable - attentive but not intrusive making us feel very comfortable and always ready with an answer to any question we had. My husband opted for the 8 course tasting menu with the accompanying wine pairing while I chose the 5 course Indonesian tasting menu. Both were outstanding and in very different ways! The only issue we had was that we were so satiated before the end of the courses that we didn't have room to do the desserts justice! Overall I can't say enough of how much we enjoyed all aspects of our dining experience at Yono's and we emphatically recommend it to anyone looking for a great dining experience!
Our first dinner at Yono's was spectacular! The ambiance, including a jazz duo, was special, the service was great and the food was out of sight. The flavor was even better than the presentation, which is saying a lot. The prices are very fair for the quality.
Totally unexpected to find a fine dining restaurant inside a Hampton Inn, but it's true! Indonesian tasting menu was excellent, cocktails and wine well prepared, and service attentive without being intrusive. I also appreciated that they were not put out by a solo diner, which sometimes happens to me at restaurants of similar level in other communities. Will be back.
Awesome place to enjoy our eight year anniversary! The food and presentation was by far the best my wife and I have ever experienced. Would absolutely recommend this wonderful place to anybody! Chef Yono came out to talk to us. He was very polite and kind, made us both feel welcome at his restaurant. Will definately be going back again for many special occasions to come. Great memories!
I cannot say enough positive things about Yono,s, we have dined at all of their locations as they move around and try always provide a memorable experience. Every detail is taken care of in a very friendly non intrusive way. The team service is as good as the food.
The food was well cooked -- fish for example was just done and so very succulent. The food however was a little bland, and I would have preferred a touch more attitude or spicy edge. The service was almost too attentive, and could have been less "chatty" and therefore a little less disruptive.
We went to celebrate my husband's birthday. They gave us each a glass of champagne and they printed a Specials menu that said Happy Birthday, Mark. They made us feel special. The food was awesome. We split the Indonesian rice appetizer, and had the T-bone steak special, and the Bakmi Goreng noodles. They also offer many choices of wine in a 1/2 bottle size, which is great for one person. This was our second time there, and would definitely go back.
My first visit to Yono's was definitely a winner. My S.O. and I were celebrating Valentine's Day and he chose Yono's. I was so impressed with the food and level of service, I'll certainly be dining there again. I'm a vegetarian, so rather than have the chef whip up something special for me (which our server explained would be perfectly ok for me to ask), I chose the Stir-Fry with Tofu, which was really yummy. My partner chose the Bakmi Goreng and cleaned his plate! Everything was so fresh and delicious. The fire place was glowing which made for a really romantic atmosphere on a cold winter night. Next time, I'm going to let the chef create something for me! Definitely the best restaurant I've dined at in the Capital District.
When we stay in Albany, we usually dine close to our Wolf Road hotel. This time, we wanted to venture further afield, and are so glad we did! We ate in the dining room, accompanied by the soft tones of a pianist and bass player. Service was impeccable. Yono himself came out of the kitchen to greet and converse with diners. The food was delicious. There is a focus on Indonesian flavours, but not to the exclusion of other types of cuisine. From soups and appetizers to main courses and desserts, everything we chose from the regular dinner menu was delicious. The presentation of each dish was interesting and attractive. The wine list was extensive. We can't say enough good things about Yono's. But you can be sure we'll be back!
I cannot say enough about the service at Yono's. We made a reservation for the Saturday night following Valentine's day and the place was absolutely packed. However, this did not hinder the incredible service and attention to each customer. The music in the dining room is perfect for a lovely dinner. The food was outstanding and I literally could not stop eating the pizza rolls! I had the Indonesian Tasting Plate which I would highly recommend for anyone visiting Yono's for the first time. The wine selection is extensive and the wait staff is quite knowledgeable, they suggested a fantastic pairing for our meal. Thanks Yono's, for many years of providing the Capital Region with an incredible dining experience, may there be many more to come!
This was my very first time dining at Yono's Restaurant. It was my partners birthday, and I wanted to go somewhere special, above and beyond what we usually do for dining out.
The employees at the hostess both were very professional, welcoming and friendly. 5 star service for getting us to our table. After that, things went a bit downhill.
Our waiter was nice, but nothing special. He was pretty focused on his other table (a party of 10), and therefore we did not feel we had his full attention, or even much attention at all. Food was decent but nothing memorable. The fact that the pickled veggies repeat on the Indonesian tasting was disappointing.
Eating at Yono's was great! My wife and I had the "Nasi Rames": Indonesian Tasting Plate. One was straight up, the other was gluten free and they both tasted fantastic. The chef made sure everything, from the vegetable roll wrapper to the sauces, were completely gluten free. The service was excellent. The ambiance was perfect for suit and tie date night. Overall, the value was worth what you pay for.
Food is good; nothing spectacular, but it does have some unique finds -- venison, shark, etc. The wine/beer/cocktail list is extensive but WAY, WAY, overpriced! One glass of house wine costs significantly more than it would cost for the entire bottle at any wine store. Moreover, they could put a little more beer in the glass for the higher cost they are charging.
The service is slow. Our dinner for two took over two hours. Granted, nice restaurants do cook-to-order and quality overpowers swift delivery, but there needs to be more efficient flow. It took twenty minutes to get bread at the table.
Nice to meet Chef Yono, he came to the table, and the complimentary truffles and cheese were a nice touch and will be remembered.
