Opened in 2015, Yona is a full-service Japanese restaurant from Mike Isabella Concepts serving lunch and dinner daily. The menu features both traditional and more inventive takes on familiar Japanese dishes, including sushi and nigiri, ramen and other noodle soups. Heartier offerings include steamed bao buns, fried chicken buckets and Asian-inspired sandwiches.

The lunch menu features quick-serve items for professionals on-the-go, while the beverage program showcases craft beer, sake, and specialty cocktails by Mike Isabella Concepts Beverage Director Taha Ismail.

I have enjoyed many meals here but this visit was the first time I tried the Poke platter. I had it with the spicy tuna - delicious!! I definitely plan to go here again.

Yona is excellent! The food is authentic and inventive at the same time. Every flavor was amazing. I can't recommend it highly enough. The only downside is that it was a little on the loud side.

One of the best Japanese restaurants in town. Everything we eat there (enoki mushrooms, fried chicken, calamari, ramen, sushi, bao buns and dessert) is delicious. Manager Cliff is very attentive and always makes us feel at home.

The buns (short ribs) were superb and the braised beef udon soup, as always, delicious! Service was excellent!

We went here for restaurant week. Great selection, food was very tasty, service was well done, even with the crowd. We will be back.

Fantastic food, quick and attentive service, and really reasonably priced!

The atmosphere is not fun. Most importantly, the customer service is totally not welcoming nor warm. The buns are bad. Ramen is alright. It does look like a fast food place rather than a high end restaurant.

Visited during restaurant week early in the evening. We ended up not going off the R Week menu and just getting some maki. Rolls well-composed but I was surprised to find the sushi rice overcooked (in my opinion). The menu is not that authentic, unsurprisingly. Everything is very pretty. Sorbet and ice cream was excellent. Enjoyed the passion fruit and apricot flavors. Black sesame was interesting and very smooth.

I would return, but it's not my favorite sushi or my favorite Mike Isabella restaurant.

WORST experience yet! There is no hostess, so when you walk in, you stand there for 5 or more minutes. The 2 servers walked past us multiple times with acknowledgement. Finally another guest came in and the server came by immediately to seat THEM. Stunned, we told the server we have been waiting a while to sit. Her response was "oh, I thought you were going to order take out". (Regardless, as the acting hostess of the night, she didnt even come to greet us). Cant help but feel she was being bias because we were Asian, because this treatment continued into the dining room. The 2 servers were more attentive to the other tables than us. We had to flag our own server down throughout the night to order, to get water, to get the check, because she rather wipe a table right next to us than to acknowledge that we were just sitting there, waiting. Needless to say, our server made the food taste like it was garbage.

The cocktail menu is great, it changes with what's popular on TV. They had a Game of Thrones theme and now it's Stranger Things. They are always very well-made and delicious, never had a cocktail there that wasn't yummy. Yona has also changed their menu which I appreciate, but there are some favorites that I always order. Crispy wings covered with a delicious Korean spicy sweet red sauce, so much better than Bon Chon, but you only get 4 wings/drumsticks for $9 which is pricey, but it's so so good. I love their newer mixed mushroom dish, their salads (bean sprout), and veggie ramen (the broth is great). I miss some of their older items which were more exotic, but perhaps Ballston isn't adventurous enough to keep those around. I'm very happy it's in my neighborhood and I can get my fix anytime.
