Yona is a ramen spot in Arlington that plays Biggie and works for a date or dinner with a friend.
I think the price and menu don't match the aesthetics or ambiance of the restaurant. Looks much more humble and casual than I expected. The food is excellent however.
The Chardonnay brut sparkling wine was amazing!
Very good Sushi, but I do not understand no happy hour at the table. Only the bar that seats 10 people. What happens if more people KMan I want to do happy hour but they can do it at the table in the bar is full and it’s not fair to everyone else
Smaller than you would think. Very good happy hour prices
Some hiccups in our food orders but overall delicious.
I loved my cocktail. I also liked my meal although it was very small portion and never felt filled. And my friends were not happy with their food.
Delish, well prepared foods, good wines, and great desserts! Service was super attentive!
Great food and atmosphere
We arrived fifteen minutes before Yona’s kitchen was to close. We were the last reservation but they treated us like we were the first of the evening. We were not rushed to order or to eat. Food, Service, and Value is Always Excellent!
Not a large dining area but they accommodated a group of 10 for us for an early birthday dinner. Food was creative!
Great food, bad service. The buns and tonkatsu were unbelievable! The edamame was not salty, but it had other spices. Good deal if you sit at the bar for happy hour.
It was great. Friendly staff and great food. Wish the place was a bit bigger, felt a bit crowded but overall it was great.
I come to Yona for lunch with a colleague who likes to share, which is great because we can try more food. All the food is amazing! I love the Crispy Beef steamed buns and the Poke bowls. All the noodle dishes are excellent - very flavorful.
This was our second time at Yona and it was wonderful - again. The vegetable base Poke bowl was so fresh, the flavors just explode in your mouth. The sushi was equally as good. Also, don't miss their cocktail list: "Friends Don't Lie" is wonderful.
The food was tasty enough but the portions were small. It's kind of an Asian tapas restaurant. As a result, we ended up paying a fair amount of money for not quite enough food. The service was also kind of spotty. It took a long time for anyone to take our orders, especially given that the restaurant was not full and servers seemed plentiful. However, once the orders were in, the service was adequate. Would be an OK spot if you're looking for a snack and a drink.
Lovely dining experience, timely service great food
Sushi was fantastic and I will most definitely go there again. Dessert (ricotta & lemon donuts) were good but not truly as advertised - there was a tiny portion of lemon zest sprinkled on & a minor amount of, I think, caramel, but mostly what you taste is cinnamon. Sake selection was interesting & we enjoyed one of them.
Restaurant is far smaller than I expected & more casual than I expected (which I was happy about).
This is why Yona is my favorite restaurant.
Great restaurant with great service and really great food.
Great place for a quick Japanese-inspired, Asian fusion Ramen bar. My favorites are Miso Porky (+extra Pork), the Rainbow and Caterpillar rolls. Flavor is consistent, except for the Crispy Brussel Sprouts, which seems to change whenever we visit. The ambience gives us a quick look at a semi-traditional Japanese Ramen bar, but their Ramen is not 100% traditionally flavored Japanese, so don’t expect a fully authentic Japanese experience. Mike Isabella made the flavors his own, and I love it as it is. Will continue to come back to this place every time I want a quick Ramen fix.
It was great
Very good food but small portions. Service was a little slow.
Service was awesome. Sushi selection was awesome. Very, cozy unique casual small plate restaurant. I’ll be back!!
I have enjoyed many meals here but this visit was the first time I tried the Poke platter. I had it with the spicy tuna - delicious!! I definitely plan to go here again.
Yona is excellent! The food is authentic and inventive at the same time. Every flavor was amazing. I can't recommend it highly enough. The only downside is that it was a little on the loud side.
One of the best Japanese restaurants in town. Everything we eat there (enoki mushrooms, fried chicken, calamari, ramen, sushi, bao buns and dessert) is delicious. Manager Cliff is very attentive and always makes us feel at home.
The buns (short ribs) were superb and the braised beef udon soup, as always, delicious! Service was excellent!
We went here for restaurant week. Great selection, food was very tasty, service was well done, even with the crowd. We will be back.
Fantastic food, quick and attentive service, and really reasonably priced!
The atmosphere is not fun. Most importantly, the customer service is totally not welcoming nor warm. The buns are bad. Ramen is alright. It does look like a fast food place rather than a high end restaurant.
Visited during restaurant week early in the evening. We ended up not going off the R Week menu and just getting some maki. Rolls well-composed but I was surprised to find the sushi rice overcooked (in my opinion). The menu is not that authentic, unsurprisingly. Everything is very pretty. Sorbet and ice cream was excellent. Enjoyed the passion fruit and apricot flavors. Black sesame was interesting and very smooth.
I would return, but it's not my favorite sushi or my favorite Mike Isabella restaurant.
WORST experience yet! There is no hostess, so when you walk in, you stand there for 5 or more minutes. The 2 servers walked past us multiple times with acknowledgement. Finally another guest came in and the server came by immediately to seat THEM. Stunned, we told the server we have been waiting a while to sit. Her response was "oh, I thought you were going to order take out". (Regardless, as the acting hostess of the night, she didnt even come to greet us). Cant help but feel she was being bias because we were Asian, because this treatment continued into the dining room. The 2 servers were more attentive to the other tables than us. We had to flag our own server down throughout the night to order, to get water, to get the check, because she rather wipe a table right next to us than to acknowledge that we were just sitting there, waiting. Needless to say, our server made the food taste like it was garbage.
The cocktail menu is great, it changes with what's popular on TV. They had a Game of Thrones theme and now it's Stranger Things. They are always very well-made and delicious, never had a cocktail there that wasn't yummy. Yona has also changed their menu which I appreciate, but there are some favorites that I always order. Crispy wings covered with a delicious Korean spicy sweet red sauce, so much better than Bon Chon, but you only get 4 wings/drumsticks for $9 which is pricey, but it's so so good. I love their newer mixed mushroom dish, their salads (bean sprout), and veggie ramen (the broth is great). I miss some of their older items which were more exotic, but perhaps Ballston isn't adventurous enough to keep those around. I'm very happy it's in my neighborhood and I can get my fix anytime.
I had the veggie ramen and it was distinctly lacking in flavor. Everything was fine but there are better spots around and this just didn’t hit the spot. They kept on forgetting to refill our water and since we were the biggest group in the middle of the small restaurant I found that odd. I’m not one to usually write a negative review but this one probably won’t be revisited for me.
It's not traditional Japanese food, really. That said, it's pretty tasty.
Delicious well-prepared food in a convenient light-filled location.
Wonderful spot for great quality food that is also a good value.
Ordered Sake for the table. Drank 1/4 of the bottle served and then we were told by the server that it was the wrong bottle and we drank “$25 worth of the bottle because it was expensive. And she took the bottle away and charged us. She Refused to bring the bottle we ordered. Tried to speak to a manager and was told “there was no manager”
My father on law got upset and it was a Terrible dinner
I emailed the restaurant privately about the issue and received no response. I guess they don’t believe me that this happened. It did.
Very delicious sushi & dumplings. Nice setting, very pleasant service, and delicious bottle of wine. Had a nice evening with a friend and would definitely go back. Dinner was perfect not too heavy they had quite a selection of choices
Our server, Dragna, was very nice. The food was well prepared, presented nicely and tasted good but maybe not on par with Isabella's other ethnic endeavors.
