Yokohama Teppanyaki & Sushi Bar
We give the first priority to the taste of ingredients, while exploring our own unique Japanese cuisine based on Teppanyaki style. Now after celebrating 20 years of the restaurant, we will continue to put together our experience, passion and technique to bring your table the most succulent dishes, all cut, prepared and served to perfection.
Yokohama has further gone downhill since my last visit 5 years ago. The location is great as it is in Steveston.
Food: Regular menu and Groupon offered low quality of ingredients- low grade beef, chicken and fish. Teppanyaki chef used too much salt, butter, and oil to cook. The BC roll had too much sauce as the sushi roll was low quality. The chef is also not authentic of its cuisine.
Service: Poor customer service, especially by the owner/manager serving us. He was not professional, not pleasant, not friendly, and not explained/recommended any menu items. He also walked as he was wearing slippers in his restaurant. The other table staff were fine.
Ambience: tables seemed okay but the area was run-down. During dinning time, there was a handy-man fixing loose window frames and other repairs - very inappropriate!
Value: way over priced! The groupon offer of $79 for 2 people showing has a value of $159 was very FALSE. See above comment that low grade ingredients were used but charging as high quality price - rip-off !!
Normally Teppanyaki chef would do a simple but fun show for each grill table. My chef did a very “lame” show compared to my many other visits to other Teppanyaki restaurants.
All and all: DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS.
Teppanyaki- person cooking did not provide experience as I have before at other Teppanyaki restaurants. No social communication, connection with the patrons or wow factor. Asked us about how we want our Wagyu prepared, said medium rare and came out well done. Finished the meat and then advised the side dish is teriyaki sauce for the meat 🤦🏻♂️ Throughout the meals, all dishes made was greasy with lots of butter used and salty with MSG added. The roll we ordered on top was good.
Service was average - plates served was not removed. Very limited space for anything. Asked a few times for removal but nothing. Asked for more tea several occasions. Not checking up as I expected.
poor service
We were disappointed that the Tempura Veggies was a little greasy and this put us off a bit. The Miso soup and California roll was very good.
It was closed. Drove all the way from Vancouver to Richmond and they were not open. No one answered the phone either. Very disappointing
Very good service, the food was delicious too - def will return
Courteous cook, thank you for the lovely meal.
The proteins were decent. The service was okay. The majority of the meal was bland fried rice and a mountain of bean sprouts to fill you. Definitely not worth the price.
I booked my reservation stating that it was an anniversary dinner, was ready to have a great time with my girlfriend. Upon arrival at my reservation time, they didn’t know where to seat me. After our hostess/waitress went to communicate with her team, they placed us next to a family with 3 toddlers, the toddlers had their moments but kids will be kids and it’s not families fault. Apart from the seating situation, our chef was extremely dull and just looked like he didn’t want to be there. The other tables on the other hand, was full of excitement and your expected cooking flames.
Overall, this was just my personal experience and I wouldn’t recommend an anniversary or special event to be hosted here. You can find better restaurants of this type in the city. I should’ve trusted the reviews of this restaurant before booking.
Victor made it fun for us as he joked around making our teppanyaki, which was delicious.
We sat in the teppanyaki table with 2 other people. The chef was entertaining and the service was attentive.
We had the wagyu with scallops and fish. The highlight of our meal was the wagyu. It was so tender and pretty much melted in my mouth! The rest was okay. I found that there was a bit too much sesame seeds in the fried rice.
Overall, the food was pricey but the wagyu made it worth it.
Great food and service. I just find the Teppanyaki a bit on the expensive side, anywhere. We chose the party special which was easy for a large party. Good for a special occasion.
Nothing special about the food, staff seemed discombobulated at best and the sashimi was “wet” and tasteless. In the endless choices of sushi restaurants in GV area there must be better
Over priced and poor quality food with terrible 'pushy' service
The food was very good and fresh. The service was incredible.
It Was a very nice experience and the hostess was very helpful. The chef was happy and was very attentive would deffinatly come back
Always a great meal and experience. Laura is a wonderful and welcoming host/server. She truly is the heart of this restaurant!
