Yiannis Taverna offers the exciting flavours of Greece to diners in a progressively designed and comfortable space.

Yiannis represents a marriage between traditional foods of the Mediterranean and local ingredients.

Using time-honoured, classic cooking techniques accented with more modern methods, the menu is a true cultural mosaic served traditionally in a social environment.

Nestled in Old Stratchona’s heritage district in the Baalim block, Yiannis consists of the main floor restaurant and a downstairs lounge and, with 220 seats, provides diners with the vibrant and exciting flavours of the Mediterranean.

Bright and colourful artwork stands out among the brick and stonework, lending an eclectic and inviting feel that allows guests to feel comfortable enough for a long stay; starting with a chat over drinks, followed by dinner, and perhaps continued over post-dinner libations.

We had a great dining experience, and celebrated our friend's birthday with a special Greek dessert, with an added candle. The perfect touch! Great food, great 1/2 priced wine, and a great ambience at our table, which was near to the open patio doors. Thanks again!

Had a great conversation with the owner, Tammy. I hadn’t been to the restaurant for awhile, and the food was as excellent as I remember. I will be returning again soon!

Booking through - OPEN TABLE - was a big waist of time . I made a reservation through OPEN TABLE , thought every thing was OK , on line it even said " reservation confirmed " . We arrived at restaurant and they had no reservation ??? So why use a service that doesn't follow through ?????

It was quite quiet for a Saturday but I had made reservations anyway. I ordered the chicken and it was excellent.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Having confirmed reservations at this restaurant apparently means nothing. At least that’s the impression we were left with. We had reservations for two and when we showed up for our seating we were told to go to their basement restaurant to see if they have seating for us because they were completely full. The hostess did not walk us to the basement restaurant to ensure they had a spot for us, ensure we knew where we were going or had advised the servers that she was going to send us there. Luckily, they had one table for two left in their space. The only highlight to this experience was that we got to experience their space downstairs which was very unique by design and servers were good. Edmonton has so many great restaurants where we know we would be appreciated and our reservations honored regardless if we are a party of 2 or 12. We will not be back.
