been before and was a little disappointed but thought i would give them the benefit of doubt and go again... and wont be back a third...
Set menu which was not stated on web site, not a great choice!!!
Ordered drinks to be given an alternative, as they didnt have what i ordered but they never told me just expected me to drink it and pay for it!!!
Too rushed get you in & out .
Food and service excellent as usual, however the pre-theatre choices had been changed a lot since the last time we were there. Not a lot of Chinese meals on the menu, which is what we go there for.
Some food was not cooked and the rest was tasteless.
Served quickly by friendly staff. Food was lovely but one member in party found a hair, was quickly replaced with a fresh meal & an apology (no discount off bill given or offered). Free parking was an advantage as seeing a concert at Hydro. Would return in future :-)
Been to Yen on numerous occasions mainly prior to a show at the SSE hydro or Armadillo and never been disappointed quick and efficient service and nice staff looking after your needs etc
I was disappointed with our visit to Yen Restaurant. We had been previously and thoroughly enjoyed it so decided to return again. Unfortunately this visit was disappointing. We were only given a pre theatre menu which we were asked to choose from a starter and main meal for a fixed cost. I asked if we could have a main and sweet course as a couple in our party preferred a sweet opposed to a starter and were told no. I asked if we could choose from the Dinner Menu and was informed that when there is a show on at the Hydro only the Pre Theatre Menu is available. There is no information on the website which states that there is only a Pre Theatre Menu available when shows are on at the Hydro. The website stipulates that there is also a Pre Theatre Menu available.
The starters arrived and were fine. However, two of our party ordered the Salt and Chilli Chicken and when they cut into the chicken pieces they were dark in colour, obviously the breast of the chicken was not used when cooking this dish. On receipt of our bill I refused to pay the full payment due to the fact that both of our main meals had been returned uneaten. The member of staff did not make any argument when I refused to pay the full amount. A disappointed group of people leaving Yen with a couple of us still hungry.
We have visited Yen for over 10 years & weren’t aware it had changed hands. We won’t be back. We arrived & 3 tables beside us told us not to bother ordering as they’d been there nearly 1hr 45 without food. We ordered & requested our starters & main be served together in the hope we didn’t wait as long. Both arrived within 25 mins. We had to ask for our drinks 4 times, they finally arrived after we had finished both courses & had asked for the bill. I sent an email directly to the restaurant the next day & received no response despite the website stating it would be in touch.
The staff were trying their best but were run off of their feet & struggling. It’s not their fault.
We absolutely won’t be back, disappointing the restaurant didn’t have the good manors to acknowledge my complaint. Poor show.
This was a total shambles. People were leaving ...we should have saved ourselves 75 mins and left to!
We only got drinks when after 30 mins I went to tbd bar myself and watched them being poured, we received starters after 50 mins no mains arrived so we left after 75 mins! Shocking! It has gone so far downhill it's rock bottom. The adults who own this establishment now should be ashamed that they left youngsters to deal with the fall out that night. This used to be a fab restaurant and I always loved eating there....no more!
Food was a bit cold. Staff very nice. Service a bit slow. Some people left as orders never came. Too packed on
First time in all the times I've been to this restaurant that I was disappointed in the service and food very slow service, everyone sitting round about us were seen to be complaining about the time they were having to wait for their meal, actually saw one table getting up and leaving, the set menu was also disappointing in the choice, not much Chinese choice, and food wasn't up to the usual standard, cold and bland , thankfully we booked an earlier meal than was needed or we would had to leave without eating as we were going to the Hydro for an event
Have been to Yen many times and is a favourite starting point for dinner before attending an event at the SSE Hydro or exhibition Center.
On this visit, noticed a big difference from previous meals. Took my 2 young sons in advance of going to WWE live event. First point that jumped at me was the lack of people in eating. Previous visits have always seen the restaurant full.
Was handed a 'new' pre theatre menu, now focussed on Asian offerings rather than just Chinese. Found selection very limited , especially for my sons who are 6 and 9 ( and love Chinese food). After ordering, asked for prawn crackers to be brought as well and was informed that they 'do not do crackers '. ???? Starter selection was very poor.
No complaints about he quality of the food Very nice all round. Menu prices at £15.95 for 2 courses was very expensive and represents poor value for money . Felt very much like inflating prices due to location.
Service was average to say the least. Drinks order mixed up and lots of waiting around for staff to help us. Astonishing since the place was empty.
Was always a favourite destination of our family. Suspect we will likely be looking for an alternative location next time
The food was lovely and Jenni was brilliant. The unfortunate thing is that the menu has changed significantly since we were last there and appears to be more Thai than anything else. I had been looking forward to my prawn cocktail and chicken curry, and my friend was looking forward to shredded beef, chips and prawn crackers, but none of these were on offer. The food we ended up choosing was delicious, but there was still disappontment at the huge change. Subsequently, I have changed a booking i have later this week to an alternative option in the Rotunda.
We booked Yen for an early dinner after visiting the SEC. The location is ideal for this, just two minutes walk, and means you can relax and enjoy some delicious food while others are waiting in a queue to get their car out of the car park. The staff were very helpful and attentive, providing us with advice on the menu. The food was delicious and the menu varied. We will be back to try some different dishes soon.
They had changed the menu from me booking asked for sweet and sour chicken and got chicken marinated in a sauce but no sauce with it was ok but not what asked for husband asked for a chicken curry and got a green thai curry very disappointing.
Very nice didn’t know what to expect I regularly attend concerts in that area and would definitely return
Pre concert menu very good, a lot of starters and mains to choose from. Service excellent, quick and friendly
Great place for quick bite before concert . Had set pre concert menu. Nice touch having Metallica music playing. Good value
We were very disappointed as it had clearly changed management and previously we visited every time we were going to hydro. Menu limited. Food not great. Quality poor right down to paper menu and plastic dishes. Not impressed.
We had a very welcoming night !
Will be going back soon
I have eaten in Yen on a number of occasions pre-concerts at the hydro. Food was always lovely previous, however, I ate there on Sunday 15th October. The menu had changed from predominantly Chinese cuisine to a large mixture of different Asian cuisines. Not what I was looking for, ordered a Thai green curry which was very bland and lots of unexpected veg through it. Advised staff I didn't really enjoy it and no apology, etc. Our table was squashed in between two others, felt like we were out for dinner with 4 strangers. Staff extremely busy and showed in the quality of service. Such a shame as the food was always previously delicious. I advise going back to old ways rather than heading towards China buffet king quality!
Staff were all so very nice and always there for you couldn't fault the place. Food was delicious
pleasant experience and good quality food, staff were very friendly and attentive without being overbearing
Last visited The Yen in May and it's changed to a Korean Restaurant now since 3 months ago I believe, so what a shock to find a different menu as advertised online. We asked to see the larger menu rather than the pre-theatre but we were refused. They rushed us through our starters and then the mains came out and even though they were not busy they rushed us through it too hardly had our forks down then they picked up our plates. Very very disappointing.
This used to be a great Chinese with fast service. It is now Japanese and although the restaurant was not even half full they had way too few staff. Service was awful. Have used many times but won’t be back. Don’t think they will last.
Food was great.. place was very busy but service was fine
Had pretheatre menu 2 courses for 17.95 and still felt hungry I am not a big eater. Glass of Prosecco small and nearly £6. Picked for location, going to Hydro, but wasn't good value, in my opinion.
Pre theatre menu doesn’t have a huge choice but what we did have was very nice
I was very disappointed in my recent visit to Yen. I always use this when I am attending the SSE Hydro but I do not think I will any longer. The menu has completed changed and the choice is extremely limited especially on concert nights. They refused to make any alterations to the food other than what was presented. My sister asked for one of the dishes to be made spicy and they actually admitted it was not possible as it was one pot! I don’t know the reason for this poor lack or choice and unacceptable service - perhaps it has changed hands but this was always a fantastic restaurant and I have never been more disappointed. I will be looking for alternative dining options for future.
Quick bite to eat before a concert. Perfect location. Quick polite service and nice food . What more could u want.
Excellent quick service, delicious food. However, struggled after our main course to get staffs attention for the dessert menu & then the bill. It had been very busy though so I assume that's why.
Would definitely return for another meal
Yen or YUZU as it’s called now is great for pre Hydro dining, however the one thing negative I have to say is that they have crammed too many tables in. It’s certainly not the place to be if you want quiet conversation and I was so close to the next table I could have held the chaps hand.
Having said that the food was amazing and the service was super quick but they are in a rush to get you back out again which is all good and well if your in a hurry. Not so much if your out for a quiet meal.
First time at yen before going to the sse hydro for a concert and really enjoyed our food, trying different food, would definitely go back.
Booked this as the menu was ideal for all of us.
VERY disappointed to find restaurant had changed to Korean food.
There was nothing the was suitable for any of our party.
Thankfully managed to get a table upstairs in the American bar and diner our out night would have been ruined.
The place was empty as many others walked out too.
Lovely food on pre theatre menu. Very fast efficient service.
Went for a meal before a concert in the hydro. Booked for 6:30. Drinks were served reasonably quickly considering the place was jumping. Great atmosphere great food but service was a bit slow, 1 1/2 hrs and only 2 courses from pre theatre menu, would have had a third course but could not afford the time
Have been to Yen lots of times and it has always been first class. This time, the pre theatre menu was not the same as on their website. my friend and I are not keen on Thai food, the menu was Chinese on their web site. just checked and the web site is still not up to date. I asked for another menu only to be told this was the only one. main dish arrived cold, had to be sent back. rice was only boiled, we could not get it out of the container, sent it back, another arrived just after we had about finished our meal, but this was the same, again luke warm. we were not the only customers sending food back cold, as table next to us did the same. they also said the did not like Thai and would be going to the Hydro to buy a burger. Arrived 6.10 left 7 50. service was poor, even asked the waiter what came with the Cheesecake cream or ice cream and I got "don't know" have put a report on Trip adviser but no comments from Yen manager yet. They have either changed hands or decided to change the menu without updating their website. I know they were a lot of unhappy customers around us.
No A La Carte menu just a variety of unappetising food typed on an A4 piece of paper. Service chaotic, food arrived cold with a skin over the katsu sauce and they had no saki! Was once a great pre-concert venue but now tired, frantic staff and mediocre food. Won't be back EVER!
Been before. It is handy before a concert but this time the food let me down and we had to wait for two main courses and ask for them twice. While I appreciate they are busy before a concert, it has put me off returning in a hurry.
Absolutely stunning food in a lovely restaurant in a great location. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, explaining all the dishes which we weren't sure about. Their recommendations were spot on. Beautifully cooked with plenty of choice. Would definitely return.
Fantastic food- good wide choice on the pre-theatre menu. We were only offering the pre-theatre menu for our booking but there was plenty to choose from. The food was delicious. My only negative comment was the time it took to serve our drinks and they didn't all come at the same time either- one of our party had to wait an extra 5 mins for our drinks! Other than that; it was great and we will definitely be back again.
