Yashin Ocean House
Our sushi concept is “without soy sauce – but if you want to”. Of course, we can serve as much soy sauce as the diner desires; however, what we want to emphasise is the taste of the fish. Therefore, each piece of sushi that we serve is brushed with the right amount of soy sauce and topped with an accompaniment that harmonises with the flavour of the fish.

Most likely the best Japanese restaurant in London
this was my 2nd visit in a few months and I was disappointed again. Whilst the staff are welcoming, the room is a bit sterile and the service was fine but hit and miss: they forgot lemon with the water, for example. Sadly the food was bland and the tempura prawn in the roll was not hot. Not worth £50 a head...
Some dishes were OUTSTANDING, sashimi-lunch platter was outstanding.
BUT then I ordered a spicy-tuna handroll, which is served with delicious tuna and spicy sauce, but the seaweed used for the actual roll is super chewy and clearly below standard.
My wife ordered a soft shell crab roll, and was served cold fried crab, a bit unusual, and the fried crab legs become chewy.
Should of course be served freshly cooked.
For some reason last time we went to Yashin Ocean House we thought it was not as good as the other Yashin. But our recent experience shows that this is not true! This Yashin is great!! We loved it.
OpenTable's various star ratings don't capture the full experience... Lunch was great in terms of food (service was decent), but there was food prep for dinner going on just behind the counter where we sat, and scales from the fish flew over the glass onto our portion of the counter, plates, hands, and clothes. Also, patrons should be aware that the space is very echo-y and likely to be loud at dinner / drinking times. Yashin Sushi (sister restaurant, near High Street Kensington) is smaller and quieter, and prep is handled in a different area.
Our booking was for 6:15 and we arrived at 5:50. It was surprising to be sent away and not offered to sit somewhere in the restaurant/outside to wait until opening or when the table was ready. The doors were open, staff were all there and ready, 1 receptionist was going to seat us but someone came to send us away. We walked around the block for 10 mins in light rain just to kill time.
Never been sent away by a restaurant before.
Food was very good, very interesting take of Japanese cuisine and was good enough to make the lack lustre experience palatable at the price point we were dining at.
Service during the meal was fair, not good nor exceptional. One waitress was very attentive and had good knowledge of the food, serving us the candy floss black cod, however the other staff seemed quite unmotivated and a bit brash for a restaurant such as this.
One little detail that I did not like which stood out during the meal was one of our main plates had a 1cm chip on the edge of the plate. It is not like the rest of the dishes were presented to be 'rustic', everything is well polished, good art on display etc, so it was poor attention to detail to let a damaged plate out serving one of their £26 mains.
When we left, the manager or someone more senior was right at the door with the receptionists. Both his hands were leaning on the counter as we were approaching him and the door. He said thank you and goodnight but it did not occur to him to open the door for us which I found odd.
I wished the overall experience would have been warmer, more motivating and captivating as the food was great and interior design was pleasing to be in. For the £££ you pay, excellent service is necessary, many more restaurants at the price point leave you feeling like a valued customer.
I would go back to give it 1 more go but at a push.
Creative Japanese dishes, beautifully presented in a vibrant setting. Good choice of fish and meat dishes. Definitely try the tuna carpaccio with truffle jelly! Service was a little slow but otherwise ok. Quite pricey, but that’s due to location, so expected.
Hot food came cold, specifically the tempura which was soggy and cold. Umeshu served as 50 shots which is unheard of. Sushi decent but not worth the prices. There are better places with the same prices.
Awesome sea urchins
Food excellent, like this place for lunch and dinner.
Went with my son on a Sunday night. Definitely a pricey evening and should be seen as a destination dinner venue. Everything was quite lovely save for the face of that semi disco euro beat music in the background. Too many “fashionable” restaurants do it and don’t realize it’s not pleasant background music.
The food was as usual excellent. A wonderful way to spend a Sunday.
Piuttosto deluso: le portate non sono state servite contemporaneamente a tutti noi; avevamo chiesto del black cod e dopo una mezz’ora ci hanno detto che era finito...in altre occasioni non c’erano mai stati problemi. Una giornata no.
Dear Adf45, thank you for your feedback, unfortunately last Saturday and due to a huge demand of Hot dishes and a misunderstanding between Kitchen and front of House end up with some delays on the food and also some stock out due to the freshness of our products, we will keep work hard in order to avoid lack of communication on the products quantity and availability, thanks for your preference and looking forward to see you soon. Yashin Team
Very good as usual. We did notice the roll of the day is now only 4 pieces instead of 6.
Glad we chose to eat here. Looked at other Sushi places in the area (Chelsea) on a Saturday night and they were already full. Moved over to Yashin and quickly got a table and was not disappointed. It was pricier than what I normally pay in the US, so be ready for that, but was worth it. Expect the cost to be around 40-50 pounds per person.
Food was great, service pleasant and helpful. Some long gaps between courses at times (we had the tasting menu) but would go back and also recommend it
Dear Derek, Thank you for your fantastic feedback. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the quality of the food and the service. We hope to welcome you back more often!
We had the tasting menu and was delicious. Service was good; although one of the ladies was not very confident while explaining the dishes and had to reconfirm with one of the chefs on few occasions. That was fine with us since she was very pleasant and was smiling all of the time.
Dear Sanja, Thank you for your feedback, really great to hear you enjoy the menu and also a opportunity to keep developing our staff in order to create great experiences to our guests, looking forward to seeing you soon. Yashin Team.
An amazing experience of such novel menu! The presentation of each dish was remarkable!
Receptionists are hopeless - table service very good. Portion. Size a joke for price
Very nice evening. Chef puts his mark on every course of an excellent tasting menu. Equally fine sake choices. Highly recommend this Kensington place.
Food was excellent and so too was the service. Would highly recommend for good Japanese food.
Nice, great quality kindness
It was so nice stay!!! Food are not same with traditional style of Japanese foo, but it was very delicious even for me, Japanese. Also, there are Japanese writers, so I bet many people who love Japan can enjoy there. I must go there again.
Quiet lunch but the food was so good and staff are very friendly. Will definitely go back
Tout était succulent.
Très bon rapport qualité prix.
Sushis à damner, aériens et délicieux.
Toujours au top
Lovely restaurant! Tables are well spaced with chic decor. Very comfortable and relax ambiance. Staff is knowledgeable, efficient and not intrusive. Food is of high quality, delicious and well presented. Not cheap but overall experience is worth the value. Highly recommended.
We were celebrating our son’s 5th birthday and had a great time. We had the special sashimi followed by chef’s omakase which, as always, was a delight. The kid’s menu included salmon nigiri and maki roll with edamame and fruit on a boat - best value sushi and exceptional quality. Finally, the whole front of house sang happy birthday for our son with a special dessert. Special evening from a special team. Thanks again!
Excellent as ever. Great food with charming, friendly and helpful staff
My friends and I dined here on a Saturday night. The general manager, Emilio , is beyond rude, arrogant and extremely aggressive. I had to ask him to tone his aggression towards us. We were in shock how we were treated by him and we did not even get an apology. The hostess apologised to us on his behalf and he was extremely rude towards her too.
The food was good and our waiter was very friendly and caring. I would think twice about coming back though as I asked the waiter to tell the manager that he owes us an apology. Of course he didn’t bother coming over to the table to apologise. I have NEVER had an experience with someone like that in a restaurant
Dear Jelena, thank you for your time and review, we are really happy you enjoy your meal and service. Hope to see you more often.
it was good but not excellent (for the price we paid) - food quality and service was good but i find it expensive for what you get
The reservation I had was for a table at 8pm. When we arrived the table was not ready and was still occupied by the previous diners. At 8.15 I asked why the table was still. To ready and was told that ‘the food had been slow arriving’. The table was eventually ready at 8.30. I had booked the table to celebrate my daughter’s birthday and the initial problems cast a shadow over the evening.
El mejor niguiri de Londres.
Worst Japanese restaurant I have ever been to. Not just the fish isn’t fresh, the way they cook the fish is a waste of food. They added too many ‘external factors’ for the sushi.
With such price point, this is not acceptable. I know a lot of people rate this place as a very nice restaurant, that’s only because it’s a place for fusion Japanese food. If you are looking for real Japanese food, don’t come here. The only nice thing we had in this restaurant is the Waygu beef and that’s it.
The food is outstanding - this is the best sushi we’ve ever had. However, the service was appalling - slow, inattentive and confused. The price of the wine was inexcusably high.
Thank you very much for your feedback regarding our food, we will work hard in order to provide a outstanding service on your next visit. Looking forward to see you soon.
Yes for a first time in order to try but I am not sure I will come back as twice I did not have nice table and manager did not care
Dear Moon, at Yashin Ocean House we all care about our guests preferences, food or seating. At weekends as you could witness the restaurant is always fully booked and under this circumstances becomes harder to please all our guests preferences, despite all we try and sometimes we can accommodate and others not, we look forward to see you again soon, Yashin Team.
Always a great place for amazing sushi
I cannot eat coriander and I told at the beginning to the waitress who served one of the dishes with coriander without telling me. If I were really allergic to it I would have had a very bad reaction and you would be in trouble. The level of service is very low and has always been like that
Dear Elisabetta, thanks for your feedback, please accept my deepest apologies regarding this mistake, we provide a intensive training to our staff regarding allergen, likes and dislikes from our guests however this time i believe we fail to deliverer to you, for this particular incident once again my deepest apologies and we will add this comments to your previous booking to avoid any mistakes on your next visit. We are really happy to hear that no incident happened, we hope see you soon
Had the best birthday dinner here!
Amazing place and amazing food, the staff is very polite and everything is thought through. Definitely worth it!
Although the place looks stunning and the food is good, the waiters are more busy with their own look and serving game than the customers they serve - the wait is appalling and I never saw the sign of the birthday candle I had specifically requested.. so perfect if you don’t care!
