About Yankee Pier Lafayette
Yankee Pier, a bustling and vibrant seafood house, offers chef Michael Dunn's ocean-fresh seafood "fresh from coast to coast". Local seafood, sourced in accord with the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program, which promotes sustainable practices that are healthy for ocean wildlife and the environment, is presented with a nod toward New England. Live Maine lobsters, fresh-shucked oysters, an array of grilled fresh fish, and beer-battered full belly clams are some of the offerings, along with local produce, house-made desserts, a selection of all-American wines and a full bar.

Yankee Pier Lafayette Ratings and Reviews
I ordered the lunch special and had the beet salad, very good, and the clams linguini, barely edible. Honestly how can a seafood restaurant in Lafayette serve tough chewy canned clams?! There were 6 tiny fresh clams and possible an entire can of rubber clams swimming in oil. Yuck! My friend had the lobster roll which she said was pretty good but for $30 should be great. Too many great restaurants in Lafayette to waste your time or money here.
We eat here often, and always for the same reasons - Authentic seafood preparation (we're from New England!) and wonderful service from all! As usual we started with the full belly fried clams and they are unique to find anywhere in CA - love 'em! Then 2 well prepared lobsters rolls and a couple glasses of rose and you are fortified for the rest of the day!
We went as they were getting ready to close on a weekday night so we didn't get a "normal" experience. That said, the food was excellent; fresh and well prepared. We had a mix of raw and cooked items...a fast light dinner. Probably a lot more lively at regular mealtimes.
Our experience was good right from the start. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation, but the hostess honored our request for a specific seating location. (We knew from past experience that there are tables too close to carry on a private conversation.) Our waiter, Shaun, was really pleasant and prompt... as were the bus staff. Our food was prepared well, was very tasty, and in portions just right for us. We will definitely return!
We have gone to Yankee Pier many times before and have always had good service, good food and a nice celebration. But this visit was a disappointment to me as the food was good but the waiter was told when we arrived that it was my birthday but he never remembered after that! We think that he had too many tables and was running around the restaurant too much that he looked stressed! So we ordered a desert and it was delivered by a different waiter. NO candle and no Happy Birthday! The manager did apologize and comp the dessert but by then it was a little too late!
In a word, disappointing. I've been here before and really enjoyed it but this time was a swing and a miss. The friendly atmosphere was gone and we were shown to our table where we were unceremoniously given menus and then immediately pounced on by the eager but clueless waiter. He sure knew (and shared) a lot more about himself than he did about the menu, no mention of specials. He did tell us "his favorite" as well as that the management wouldn't let him order certain things. Not sure why he felt the need to share this....but I digress. We ordered from the limited wine list and it was fine. The food was just okay. The mussels were nice but absolutely swimming in tomato sauce. Entrees were decent but the sides were kinda boring and lack of presentation showed in the way it all just came heaped together. The whole time it seemed they couldn't get rid of us fast enough as the service was rushed and we had to ask for utensils that should have been obvious for what we ordered. Our waiter was ready to hand us the check - I thought I might broach the subject of dessert first. He said that would be OK with him, and the dessert was by far the best part of the meal. There was a little issue with the check, which the management handled very poorly. We had been there only an hour, although it seemed longer, and not in a good way. The restaurant was clearing out, 8:00 on friday. I know this is sleepy Lafayette but I think it's further sign that this place has lost it's mojo. I know any restaurant can have a bad night but between the spotty service, limited menu, so-so food and bad attitude by the management I'll think twice before I return.
I've always loved Yankee Pier and enjoyed their food which reminds me of where I grew up on the east Coast. The menu is a bit tired and my 'former' favorite Fish & Chips is more batter than fish these days. I was a bit disappointed in the quality of food on our last visit.
We were celebrating a special occasion with the family. It was the perfect restaurant. We requested a quiet table--always next to impossible in a popular restaurant. Our table was perfect, the dinner was delicious, and our server was attentive without hovering. We never felt rushed and stayed on after our meal to celebrate the occasion with champagne.
The welcome of all personnel was very good and Sean, our waiter, was exceptional. We were all please with our food selection; my Manhattan was excellent and generous even at the reduced price. The willingness to accommodate our seating selection was most appreciated. We look forward to a return experience.
We had a birthday lunch at Yankee Pier. The walnut apple salad was perfectly dressed and very tasty. I had the rockfish sandwich, which was cooked right, moist but done, and the sandwich itself was the perfect combination of pickled onions and dressing. Our wait person was attentive, but not annoying, and checked only to see if the entrees were good and to ask about dessert. I would recommend Yankee Pier for any occasion.
Came in for a dinner for two in the middle of the week and had their mahi-mahi and trout in their menu. Dishes were prepared well but was a bit slow in serving considering it wasn't that busy. Also the 4 people seated next to our table was a bit loud but didn't want to be rude. Overall, I'd give the place another try maybe for lunch.
