Yakuza Lounge Ratings and Reviews
I always love coming to Yauka Lounge for their burger, cocktails, and sashimi or sushi. The ribs are delicious and I'm glad they have reintroduced the haystack scallops. They are also delicious...order them.
This is a great date spot too for you romantics out there.
Entertaining cousins you barely know can be a challenge, but mine were SO happy I took them to Yakuza. We laughed and ate for hours and never felt rushed by the staff. Food was great, cocktails were great. I was very pleased they had Aria gin. Yakuza added to a great memory of a special visit.
We tried this place as part of our 2017 restaurant fun card and also we caught the end of happy hour. There were four of us and since the card deal was one free plate with burger, we shared a burger for each couple and several of the other plates including Poke and Yakuza roll. We also had grilled corn plates and popcorn snack. All food was good and the burger was one of the best I’ve had in Portland. The poke and roll were very good too. Mixed feelings at the table over the fishy flavor profile of the butter for the corn and also added to the popcorn. I think I’ll be back for the burger. I’d like to try some more plates next time. I highly recommend this place. Service was good, but not spectacular; but in this town any good service is spectacular
My six member Happy Hour group rarely ventures far from downtown Portland but agreed to venture eastward on a rainy October night. We were rewarded with delicious dish after dish, expert cocktails and service that was perfect. Yakuza Lounge is cozy, candlelit and quietly intimate. We were nestled among couples and foursomes who could actually hear one another exclaim over excellent food and drink. Selfishly, I'd like to see larger groups reserve the large table in the back room or the good weather back gardens. Yakuza wouldn't be listed among 'cheap eats' but it was worth every penny. We particularly loved the poke, the ribs the amazing scallop 'haystacks' and the various rolls we sampled.
Yakuza is my favorite go to for my birthday and every chance I get otherwise. As an Interior Architect I appreciate the conceptual design as well as artistic murals. Look forward to a group event one day in the suite that opens on the rooftop. Creative food and cocktail combinations are wonderful. Personable interactive service.
Delicious food as always! They forgot an order I made early in the evening. Not a big deal but got it late and they didn't offer to fix the situation. So it seems it's ok to provide so so service. Also, they ran out of some liquor that I asked for. Again, the food is great but service is always mediocre.
Was very disappointed in this place. It was one of the values on the Oregon entertainment, restaurant addition card. Unless you knew what Japanese food was you had no clue what you were ordering. The menu was typed on single sheet white paper. There were no graphics to give you an idea of what you were ordering. They are extremely expensive for what you got. I ordered scallops and got 2 for $12. My husband ordered Sushi 9 small pieces on a plate. Not even on a bed of rice. He was so hungry that we added a hamburger on. Could be a good restaurant with a little thought.
We sat on the back patio...highly recommended to sit there, as it's quieter and a bit more private. Our waiter was very attentive and had good recommendations for the food/cocktails. I'm vegetarian and enjoyed the chilled ramen, while my teenager said the burger really is ALL THAT....best burger she has ever had. Thanks! We'd go back...
Their vegan shushi is the best sushi I've ever had, but I wouldn't call the restaurant vegan friendly, because you're limited to one option. Menu is too small, so there isn't enough options in general. Good for gentry, I guess. The ambiance is chill and open yet personal and cozy. They need more options and less bougie-ness. Waitress was friendly, kind, and polit; but not welcoming and open--maybe she was new or nervous.. don't know. Still, give it a chance, but look at their online "sample" menu first, cuz t's pretty much all the food they got.
This place, while the food tastes yummy, has a confusing menu. They are known to our family for our great burgers, but they also bill themselves as a sushi place. To me, the two don't go together. Anyway, their most redeeming thing is their burger. It is really tasty. I asked for a gluten free bun and was offered the burger over rice in a bowl, which was a tasty alternate. We sat in the back where it was quieter, but there wasn't enough light to read the menu so everyone had their iPhone's flashlights on. And, there was a dog there. I don't like restaurants that let dogs in. That is a buzzkill for a good meal to me. The big bad elephant in the room, though, is the mandatory "customer pays for our health insurance" line item on my bill. I really detest that. I complained about it in a letter to this restaurant many months ago, and to no avail, as they still practice that. That's it. I won't be back. Lastly, Open Table, I noted on my reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, but there was no recognition of this.
I was looking for outdoor dining with a bit of ambiance. From the website, this looked like the place. However, the garden was a mess (covered hot tub, empty bath tub, views of neighboring junk) - very underwhelming. No tables even had a view of the garden. The food was nice, but small portions and pricey. Best I can say is, it was OK.
I thought the food was expensive for the amount. The worst example was a muscle appetizer on the happy hour menu which was four dollars or $4.50 for one mussel on a small piece of toast. Another example was and albacore dish that was $19 and consisted of four very thin slices of albacore tuna. It is necessary to order very carefully here or you can spend a lot of money and be very hungry.
Portions were small as they advertised. However the small portions were very good in taste but still on the expensive side (according to our budget). Our waitress was very good, informative, and answered all our questions concerning the food and it's makeup. If she didn't have the answer she was able to ask the chef to obtain it.
Varied Northwest styled sushi, very fresh and well thought out combinations of ingredients.
Burger is one of our favorites in Portland. Juicy and tasty. The ribs plate is flavorfully sauced and the meat falls off the bones.
The tempura scallops are artwork and taste heavenly, and pair well with the shishito peppers.
Good selection of sake. Food was outstanding as ever, waitress might have been having an off night or new?
they were understaffed when we were there so service was slow but at least the server explained it to us so we just rolled with it. i had the yakuza burger and the gluten free option was to serve the burger on a bed of rice and it was amazing. I am still thinking about how delicious it was several days later. online reservations don't say anything about an option to reserve a table in the garden which I wish I could have done as it was beautiful. we sat facing the street.
Food was amazing - service is disappointing 5 of the 6 times I have been there. For as many great reviews for their food, I'm surprised they don't have as many poor reviews for their service.
Host always seems like she's doing you a favor.
Servers are never around and they are inconsistent with how they course your food; sometimes its paced other times they bring you everything at once.
I've taken several out of town guests there and always feel like I need to apologize for the service. They are lucky their food is amazing.
As usual the food was amazing and the service was perfect. My favorite thing about the service is the staff isn't overbearing & chatty. They have a great presence and they don't interrupt conversations! The sashimi trio was lovely, the atmosphere was wonderful and the edamame had a great spice! Excellent!!
We had an excellent evening at Yakuza. I hosted a surprise engagement party for 8 ladies and everyone had a lovely time. A little pricey, but worth it! Food and wine were top notch, ambience was festive but not excessive, and the service was prompt, kind and attentive.
If you are looking for a pleasant dining surprise, visually interesting and tasty food, this could be your place. Because of small plates a delivery berate stroll through the entire menu can be pricey, but well worth the experience. If you are just interested in a Pacific Northwest meal experience with several various options, this can be your place as well. We liked the fact that we were in control for the type of evening and food we wanted to pursue. Definitely worth several trips, whether a special occasion, with friends or just casual dining.
Our party of five ordered a wide variety of small plates, and they were all excellent. I never expected to find good hamburgers at Yakuza, but they were, in fact, very good. The Yakuza roll was delicious, as was the jalapeno yellow tail roll. Really, everything was delicious (including the special saki and the spicy cocktail). Our waitress forgot one item, but brought it quickly when we reminded her--and took it off our bill! The music was way too loud for the old fogies (2 of us), but the younger set thought it was fine. Would definitely return for another dinner.
