Getting back to grilling up the delicious Hakata Yakitori you know so well. Using traditional Japanese techniques passed down through generations, our chefs grill Hawaii's natural ingredients to perfection. To support the community we serve, we are committed to sourcing the very finest ingredients from Hawaii's many talented farmers, fisherman, and purveyors.
A wide range of beer, wine, nihonshu (sake), shochu, chuhai and highballs are available to complement our Yakitori.
Kick back, relax and have a great time at Yakitori Hachibei once again!
Excellent food and service!
Outrageously delicious, and an incredibly friendly and professional staff. It took a visit or two to really understand all of the many options on the menu, but it was well worth it. The one restaurant on the island I’ve missed these past couple of months — I really can’t wait to see the awesome folks there again once it’s safe (and, who am I kidding, fall back love with the A4 Japanese Wagyu skewer that I’ve definitely also missed dearly).
Great food! Definitely can get pricey, best to share with a group.
The chefs and waitstaff were fantastic. Very innovative Japanese food. We were staying in Waikiki. However we were looking for authentic Japanese. We decided to try Hachibei. The neighborhood looks rough at first especially if you go over a few blocks. But the experience was excellent and the food even better. We were actually looking for Sukiyaki. We ended up getting the tasting menu which included a sukiyaki skewer that was brilliant.
I had eaten here once before but my husband hadn’t. He lived it as much as I did.
Great food! Great service! Great Experience overall!!
Beat yakitori in town. Better than I can find in LA as well
Service was great
First timers so didn't know what to expect...food was amazing. We chose the from the set courses dinner..loved everything. Definitely will be returning with family and friends
I found it really enjoyable and delicious, partner found it delicious but less enjoyable as hes a big eater and left it to me to find dinner. We did the midpriced courses.
Great food, fast service even though the restaurant was packed. The server was fast, orders were accurate, and friendly. Would recommend this place.
Husband and I, along with another couple really enjoyed our first time at Yakitori for dinner on Valentines Day. Japanese tapas. So many fun things to try! The ambiance is vibrant, fun, and chic. The food and it’s presentation is delicious and beautiful. Service was timely, personable, helpful and friendly, and they consistently provided a description of what they were serving us, but it was often hard to hear everything, especially given the unique and unfamiliar items. Richard, the ?owner? Head chef came to our table twice to check in on us, wish us happy Valentine’s Day, and connect. Very personable and gracious, while servicing a really fun, unique, and very delicious meal. $5 appetizers for Happy Hour! And a ?4? Course option with reservations for such. We WILL be back. SOON!
As always, my first-time guests ❤️‘d it!!!
Always order the cabbage salad. Don’t eat it all at once - instead, enjoy a cabbage leaf or 2 after each course while allowing it to cleanse your palate. As one of my guests stated “They had me from the Cabbage.”
Until We Eat Again, Bon Appétit 🦋
If you have never tried Yakitori Hachibei you are missing out on an unforgettable adventure. Food you have never experienced in Honolulu.
I went there with my husband tonight, and Everything we had was amazing!!! We traveled from San Francisco, and its worth it!! We are going back there next time we come to Oahu! Thank you :)
My 2nd time.
Food is great and lots of Yakitori selections. Loved it. ❤️
Very lovely place. Super friendly staff, could be the best yakitori I have ever had in my life. Everything was on point and delicious. Highly recommend.
Service was above and beyond, great people there and amazing food
This was my first time there and I understand why this place is popular. There are a couple of quirks in the ordering and naming convention of menu items. The prixe fixe menu has a great selection of the popular sticks along with appetizers, finishing dish and dessert. The issue is the inability to select from the 3 choices listed on the menu. They have 3 different prices with each having some common selections but the higher tiered also having more items. We were informed by the wait staff that we had order the same thing and could not order the $40 and the $50. I thought that was kind of odd. The other thing was the chicken foie gras... no it was not foie gras. It was very good but listing it as foie gras invoked a certain image in my mind which it didn't meet.
However, each dish was presented to dazzle the eye and invoke how in the world did they figure this out. You have to try the Sukiyaki which served with an egg yolk that is used to dip the item... talk about sinfully rich. Service was great, food is fabulous and it's hard to go wrong with anything on the menu. I'm a happy food miser with these guys.
Excellent on all fronts. Service. Food. Wine. Saké. Wish we had one in Vancouver. Thanks Robert and Sasha.
I thought it was an okay meal. The prices are a little high, even for Hawaii standards. The quality is just okay, granted we didn’t splurge for the Wagyu or anything like that. There was nothing that really stood out and when you’re paying $140 for two people and not leaving impressed, it’s hard to recommend to others.
Simply the best Japanese cuisine to be found anywhere in Honolulu.
Made a reservation for dinner before attending a show at the Hawai’i theater. We were promptly greeted and seated at our table. My gf and I both ordered the $58 set course menu. Overall, my gf and I enjoyed the presentation, quality and taste of the dishes. Ut seemed very authentic Japanese, and the flavors were light and fresh. Highlights were the otoro tartare, Kona kampachi carpaccio, sukiyaki yakitori skewer (with that yummy raw egg), and the goma pudding (more like a panna cotta) with matcha gelato. I love the lightly dressed raw cabbage that accompanies the skewers, and they didn’t charge extra when we asked for more. However, we were disappointed that they ran out of (1) foie gras yakitori skewer , which they instead replaced with minced chicken and scallion skewer, and (2) beef tongue curry, which they did not offer an alternative for, so we both instead chose the chicken ramen. Overall, the value was pretty good for $58, though it would have been better with the foie gras skewer and beef tongue curry.
The service was very friendly, helpful and timely.
I highly recommend their lemon or lemon salt chu hai, as it’s so refreshing and not overly sweet. It’s a pretty decent size for $7.50.
The set course had a beautiful balance and variety of foods and flavors, that was perfectly filling. I definitely recommend it and can’t wait to return to perhaps try their happy hour and their $75 course menu.
Wow! The food, the style of cooking, the flavors. Simply fantastic. Delicious. Unusual. Must try this place. Japanese style grilled skewered meats, veggies, sauces, and amazingly wonderful tastes. Kirin Ichiban on tap, Japanese whiskies by the glass. We chatted with the owner (family owned business) and he was explaining various aspects of the cooking, the style, etc. The family owns several of these restaurants in Japan, and this is their first in the USA. The part of town it’s in seems to be changing, and gentrifying, but like everywhere in Honolulu there are a lot of homeless people around. Doesn’t look great, but that’s Waikiki, and all of Honolulu. We’ve never experienced this form of Japanese dining before, and we all loved it. The more American style skewers if Wagyu beef and vegetables, and the more unusual Japanese items with raw egg yolk to dip it in, tempura fried calamari, and on and on. Everything was delicious, and the prices were quite reasonable. We were worried about leaving hungry with “just” having six skewers each. Fear not, the food is quite filling, and you definitely will not leave hungry. Quite the opposite, in fact. We wish there was something like this in Detroit where we are from. Maybe one day, since the family member running this Honolulu location is from Chicago?!?!
The food was really good and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Sitting at the counter allowed us a chance to see the chefs in action. It was a great experience!!
Best Yakitori! Loved the wagyu and surprised I loved the homemade tofu cream cheese!
Our favorite restaurant in Honolulu!
Great food & Service Bobby is an excellent host.. We eat there on a regular basis and never disappointed

It was a pleasant enjoyable evening and one that we will repeat
I love that they remember my nuances. Food delicious as always. I like the quality of the ingredients they use. The staff attention to detail makes them A++
Spectacular! Each time we come here we are never disappointed, the service is on point, food is amazing with many new offerings and the owner always remembers us. We don’t come often enough!
New offerings we enjoyed included the Peppered oxtail, and yuzu mushrooms.
Don’t forget the honey chuhai! We will be back soon!
Great food and friendly staff!
Service was great as always and the food was excellent. We look forward to dining at Yakitori Hachibei again very soon.
