Service can be improved. The waiter must've been very new or untrained as we had to get him to take our drinks orders and our dinner orders. He was standing by his station on both occasions. Food came out very quickly, though.
Made a reservation for 7:45. Arrived at 7:35 and were told wait would be 25 minutes. Asked for an update at 8 PM, told that there were "others who were ahead of us." Noted that we had a reservation. No real response. Asked for an update at 8:15 and were told that a party of 4 waiting nearby had a reservation for 7:30 and was still waiting for their table. Shockingly, we did not feel better. Asked again about our table at 8:30 and were told that we were "mean" and this was a "mean free" restaurant. Left.
Excellent dinner. Excellent service. We did have the staff explain some of the dishes on the menu, but we were pleased with everything. The staff was very accomodating. One of my people accidently set a menu on fire (from a candle) and they just brought more menu. The lemon pie dessert was a real winner with my crowd.
Loved the quiet room in the back, with a gas fireplace. Great ambiance - perfect refuge on a cold night. Our server was attentive without being a pest. The Meze plates were excellent. Two of us shared four of these plates and one entree. It was too much food; next time we'll omit the entree (cauliflower that was slightly overcooked but tasty - the only food we had that wasn't spot-on).
Wonderfully delicious delicacies for vegans, vegetarians and omnivores! Must try!
I’m a vegan and always looking to try new spots. I really like the other restaurants in this group and have been wanting to try this one. We had 3 small plates and one main. The dishes were almost cold and we did nicely mention that while dining. Also there was hardly any protein in the dishes. We did have 3 glasses of wine total, but for $60 a person, I expected more. I would probably head back to an old favorite before going back based on the value for the money
Excellent food, two out of four in our group are carnivores and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Cozy reunion of four friends, could not have asked for better
Granted it was a busy Saturday night but the staff seemed always to be running around but not necessarily efficiently. Host spent a lot of time away from his stand, though when I had his attention he was accommodating. I waited over half an hour beyond my res time before being seated. After 10 more minutes no waiter had approached me and the host took my order. Food was good to very good but nothing was spectacular and one item was over-salted. Since much of this type of food is vegetarian or vegan anyway, I was left satisfied but not enthusiastic
The meal and presentation was out of this world. Great for people with celiac as well almost the whole menu is gluten free or modifiable and the staff is extremely knowledgeable. Ambiance was relaxing and pleasant, will definitely be coming back many times in the future
The food was absolutely amazing !!
Delicious vegan food but you’re not that aware of the “vegan” since it’s just so yummy!! We sat in the back with the fireplace which was so cozy. Wonderful experience, creative & beautifully presented. Can’t wait to return!
Delicious vegan food and creative cocktails at decent prices. Everything we ate had a fantastic flavor, and the serving sizes were excellent.
Enjoyed a delicious plant based dinner with so many tasty options - definitely would go there again.
We were offered a seat in the small fireplace room in back which was wonderful. The menu has a slightly lower than average selection. The service was good and our food came quickly. Truly memorable flavors and presentation and ultra-fresh ingredients put smiles on our faces all night. Unfortunately, the portion size was well below any reasonable expectation and given that, the prices were eye-brow-raising. Our reservation was early and at that time the noise level was quiet but as we were leaving, it was difficult for us to get our coats on and even to speak as we left.
We were disappointed with all of the dishes we tried. Everything was bland and flavorless.
The food was fair. My biggest disappointment was egg plant which was definitely under cooked. Considering the lack of variety of food that we had ordered (our mistake) the egg plant being under cooked was a big downer
Everything was amazing
Beautiful, food, service and decor, my most favorite restaurant in NYC or anywhere for that matter!!
Very pleasant overall, excellent bartender, nice waiter, warm vibe to the place. The food was all very fresh and flavorful.
Super starter with smoked hummus... mushrooms stack was terrific with crimini ,oyster and at least 3 others... chocolate cake while it didn't be look so appetizing was a dense rich flavor.
Great, creative, unique vegan food...smoked beets app and mushroom entree were awesome!
The "energetic" noise was intolerable, nullifying conversation and making us want to leave as soon as possible. The food's preparation had some good ideas but more often than not tended toward bland.
I sat at the bar after booking a table - it was late and I did not want to wait for courses. The bartender rocked . I’m happy to have vegan food in my neighborhood . The prices are high for what it is.
Great vegan tapas! We had 7 dishes and all were fabulous, full of flavor and yummy goodness. Out of the 7 dishes we had, I felt 2 of them were a little small for the price. A bit disappointed that 1 dish, the manti came with 5 dumplings and we had 6 at our table, felt the chef could have added 1 more, for the hospitality of it, so that we all got one. Server was great, nice, attentive and personable. Ambience was cozy and sound level perfect. Will go back often.
Incredible vegan dining experience. The smoked hummus was spiritually transforming.
Second time here and was not disappointed with the creativity and tastiness of the food.
My experience with XYST was mediocre at best. I went for Sunday brunch--very cute and quiet atmosphere! However, the service was pretty poor, especially considering there were multiple servers and only three tables sat in the whole restaurant. It took nearly 40 minutes and multiple reminders for someone to bring us water. The food was edible but quite bland. I would not return, but the restaurant definitely has potential to be good, if some changes are made!!
Very clean space with delicious vegan food
Great atmosphere, lends itself to great conversation
The food was excellent and wonderfully presented. Absolutely loved this vegan restaurant! Had a very delicious cocktail also! Highly recommend XYST :)
Everything was great - staff, food, ambience, wine, etc. Had a great time.
We've been to just about every vegan restaurant in the city and this one surpassed all of them--including Dirt Candy , Avant Garden, Blossom and ABC's vegan restaurant. The restaurant itself is beautiful and understated. The waittaff was so helpful. The food was...well sublime. First, it was gorgeous! Imagine ruby red pockets of smoky beet filled with spicy insides! We had a nut cheese on crusty bread that was startlingly delicious, and wild mushrooms with kale polenta--which was so delicious I could have had just that. The lemon meringue was light and extraordinary. (The chocolate cake, however, was just good. Not amazing beyond belief.)
I can't wait to come back!
Taste wise, the food is great. Value wise, no. The portion is tiny and the price is very expensive. Given that the food is vegan, the materials themselves aren't expensive (eggplant, brussel sprouts, etc). $20+ a plate of 3 pieces of eggplant is too much for me.
Happy that I've tried it but definitely won't recommend.
It was my bf’s birthday. The food was excellent. We were happily surprised with the quality of everything - food, service, atmosphere... definitely will recommend this to friends and family who are vegan and aren’t!
Everything was vegan
Amazing meal! And very good service. The falafel, pita, and beet hummus were incredible
Love XYST have gone many times and always a great experience.
Each small plate dish - meant to be shared - is priced like an entree. Rather than eating two entrees you order four or five dishes to share which adds up. Other than that this was an AMAZING place. Food delicious, service impeccable. They were so nice and easy going.
Very nice and cosy restaurant with good ambience. Food was rather bland although plated very well. They need to introduce more flavour. Aubergine was undercooked, mentioned it to waiter but no action taken regarding comment.
Fantastic delicious food, creative and beautifully presented. One of the few restaurants in NYC that does not use corn, soy or canola for cooking. Definitely be back taste their seasonally changing menu.
