Xochitl Ratings and Reviews
We were lucky to stumble across Xochital during restaurant week! Even though they were running on a prie-fixe menu, they had lots of options to choose from! The customized guacamole, ceviche tostada and cocktails were the highlights of our meal, followed by the taquitos and steak tacos. My husband enjoyed the flan, while the tres leches cake wasn't my favorite (perhaps just not my taste; I didn't care for the texture/consistency). Overall, the ambiance was great and our waitress, Monica, was friendly, helpful and quick! I also have to applaud the timing of our courses, as it can sometimes be difficult to execute especially during a busy dinner service. Very good first impression and we look forward to returning!
Waited over an hour for our table when we had a reservation. Horrible service. We're charged for chips and salsa they gave us while we were waiting. The bill did not add up. When pointed out to management, the bill was not corrected. We were overcharged. The food was okay but it was not worth dealing with the bad customer service. Food and drinks were very expensive.
The food was good, but lacked the savory flavor of a high end eatery. The menu prices are extremely high for Mexican food. The service was good, but no better than any other restaurant at this price point. I left satisfied, but feeling that I paid too much for what I received. One final comment- I've eaten at many Mexican restaurants and have never had to pay extra for salsa. This one charges $2 for their sauce.
The food was good, the service was good - the Guacamole was above average.
My issue - which will cause me to probably go elsewhere in the future was their Happy Hour policy. You can get happy hour pricing at the bar, in the bar area, outside, but not in the seated area - which is where they seat you when your use Open Table. It isn't has if I was asking them to walk a great extra distance - unless 15 feet counts as an inconvenience.
I was told that it "would only cost me $3 more" for the same drink because of where my Open Table reservation got me seated.
I can understand that they do not want people just sitting, drinking and not ordering food in that area - easily solved with a minimum food purchase. We were also the only ones seated in that area for close to 30 min - and in the hour we were there - there were only 2 tables occupied (probably no one wanted to pay the extra $3).
It is worth considering - but there are a number of other options around that don't have this Happy Hour policy. Personally lost me as a future customer.
The food here was really good. The service seemed inattentive. From the amount of time before any one approached our table to offer us water, to the amount of time to have our drink order taken, to the amount of time to get our drinks, how long we waited before being asked if we were ready to order, the amount of time to get our food, to the lack of checking in after receiving our meal, the service felt sub-par. We were not in a rush too eat and leave but the inattentiveness was something both myself and guest noticed. The ahi tuna ceviche came out with 4 plantain chips, hardly enough to enjoy all the ceviche, we had to order tortilla chips for an extra charge. We generally found it odd that no complimentary chips and salsa were offered, Xochitl seems like the class of place that would do this, but no. Our entrees (Short rib, Stuffed Pepper with Mole) were really, really good. For the prices I was expecting a more special dining experience. Probably will not go back as there are really great Mexican offerings in the area that would cost half what we paid here.
Wow. This is by far one of my new favorite places to eat. The food is impeccable! The pork tenderloin was perfectly seasoned. The sauce on the tender brisket enchiladas was creamy and light with just the right amount of cotija cheese. The tres leche cake was delectable, with just the right amount of sweetness and moisture.
Service is good.
The average price of an entree is about $21.
The restaurant is located in a safe and fun area.
I will definitely be back.
We brought my Mom here for an early Mothers Day dinner because I had been here before a couple times. They hand-squeeze the limes for margaritas. You custom-order your guacamole. The food is obviously carefully crafted. Top it all off with excellent service, and you can see why I keep coming back!
My sister and I went during a girls weekend in Philly. A bartender recommended it and it did not disappoint. One word...Amazing. Great atmosphere, excellent margaritas, and delicious Mexican food (not your typical texmex). Our waitress (Monica) was bubbly and fun. I highly recommend it.
I was expecting a little bit more from the restaurant but overall it was fine. The way you can customize your quac was nice, but the portion was pretty small. The margaritas left a lot to be desired and every time a waiter or food runner brought one it overflowed onto the table. I had the brisket enchiladas which were good but came with a strange side of what seemed like hot dogs and potatoes and onions. When we asked the waiter what it was he told us chorizo, but in my experience chorizo has always had a bit more of a bite to it. I'd been wanting to try Xochitl out, but it wasn't one of the best Mexican places I've been to.
We were celebrating a special event. Our waitress and bartender were great. They let us know they wanted us to enjoy our evening and did everything to make it happen. I'm happy to say that my gluten and dairy free meal was delicious! We hope to go back on a regular basis...especially when we have a special event to celebrate!
We were in town for a basketball game and this was a great pick for our gluten free family!! All the corn items were gluten free, which is not always the case in Mexican restaurants. The food was authentic Mexican, which was a great way to expand my kids' reprotoires from their typical traditional Mexican pick of tacos! Service was great and seemed to be a fun atmosphere - the only drawback was our table was in the very back corner, so we didn't really get to experience it.
We arrived at 8:00 but our table wasn't ready. We waited a few minutes before the hostess came back and said they were preparing another table downstairs. It was so cozy and intimate downstairs that I'm glad the other table took their time! The hostess did a great job of keeping me informed and handling the situation. Food and drinks were great. Only complaint was the lack of chips provided with the guacamole. I wish they had been a little more generous with the chips.
