The food was amazing! The tasting menu was great and we enjoyed it so much. Only thing to comment on is the fact that the service was pretty slow and there were only 3 other table there. Otherwise all was good!

Met loads of friends food was awesome and the Jon Bon Jovi wine on sale was a hit with all ..

I would recommend this for a special occasion for several reasons - the decor is formal and feels 'fancy', dishes are presented beautifully so it feels special, it's cosy and intimate from the moment you enter the door of the stylish boutique hotel ...downside is service is slow and menu is a little on the pricey side, esp considering that the most expensive item on it arrived at room temperature served on an equally cool wooden board...

The restaurant met my expectations. I live in London UK and I am in Montreal for family visit and it was the perfect setting for gown ups and great conversation. The food is on point. Service to perfection. Ambiance is great, quiet. Staff very nice and always ready to accommodate. The decor is absolutely beautiful. Love the place. At the heart of Montreal.

j'ai adoré mon arrivée avec un valet très aimable, en entrant le resto est extraordinaire l'effet des grands plafonds et la déco etait impressionnant. La nourriture exellente ainsi que le service était parfait.

Le seul hic par contre c'est j'aurais aimé un coin tranquille parce qu'aller manger avec sa conjointe en amoureux n'est pas la place, nous voulions discuter et c'étais impossible étant dans une grande piece avec beaucoup de gens, la table trop grande que nous étions un peu loin de l'autre. Pour un souper amoureux je ne pense pas que c'est la place. Il pourrait être possible d'agencer quelques tables plus discret mais c'est une opinion.
Je pense revenir mais en groupe avec des amis mais pas en amoureux.

30 mins to get served a drink at the bar. Food really wasn’t good and trying to pretend something its not. Only saving grace is how beautiful the room is... we won’t be returning, unless we hear of a change in restaurant management and / or chef.

It's a good place for a quiet lunch in Old Port. The set menu changes weekly so it is refreshing. Definitely value for money.

Always excellent food with great wine and excellent service

We booked in for 11am New Year's Day brunch - $65pp +taxes and grat. It was a buffet that was described to include Oysters and Shrimp, plus carvery station, dessert buffet, etc. The venue is stunning and the server was lovely and attentive. They were late getting the buffet set-up so we waited 30 mins before we could start. The supervisor did go to all of the tables and let us know they were delayed and ensured we had drinks while we waited. Once the buffet came out, the options listed did not all come at once, the seafood came out last and by that time we had already eaten what we wanted not realizing they would bring new options later. For the price, I felt the buffet should have been better prepared and key items such as seafood brought out from the beginning. Food quality was very good.

The meal was simply not worth the money. Despite some miscommunication with the kitchen, service was thoughtful and attentive.

Nous nous attendions à beaucoup plus pour un brunch de Noël. Pour le prix demandé, 65% !!! les choix du menu étaient plutôt limités. Il manquait d'accompagnement (variété de légumes) pour les plats chauds. La table des entrées froides était tout de même bien mais aussi très limitée.
Le choix des desserts aurait pu être plus élaboré surtout pour le jour de Noël !. Il n'y avait rien d'extraordinaire.
Tout ce qui était présenté était quand même très bon mais c'était le strict minimum.
Pour un hôtel de votre classe et de votre réputation, et en plus le jour de Noël, ce brunch n'était vraiment pas à votre honneur.
Nous n'avons pas senti cette touche du chef pour nous épater !! Ça ne valait pas plus que 40$.

Désolés, mais nous ne retournerons pas chez-vous pour un jour de fête comme Noël.

Best Indian food in Montreal. The food was fresh and the service was amazing.

Le menu dégustation était très bon. Découverte du tartare de vivaneau. Le boeuf était vraiment excellent, avec une viande fondant dans la bouche.
Seul petit bémol, finir le repas par deux desserts : en effet le dessert au chocolat était trop riche, j'aurais préféré finir avec quelque chose de plus léger, par exemple aux fruits.

Sommes allés pour l'événement Montréal à Table. Menu affiché sur le site de cet événement à 41$/personne. Très bel endroit, dans le Vieux Montréal, à l'intérieur de Hôtel le St. James. Magnifique ! Avons été très bien reçus. Le service est impeccable. Les plats servis sont délicieux. Seul hic: sur le menu du resto, tous les 3e choix, entrées, plats principaux er desserts, affichaient un supplément à payer. Le problème est que, sur le site, aucun supplément n'était mentionné et les 3 choix étaient inclus dans le menu à 41$. Déception et malaise...
Étant des habitués de l'événement Montréal à Table, noua regardons à l'avance les menus des restaurants participants pour faire notre choix. Certains restos inscrivent clairement les suppléments pour certains items de leur menu, s'il y a lieu. Donc, pour nous, tout est clair et nous savons exactement ce qui nous attend, sans aucune surprise.
XO a donc créé une insatisfaction en ajoutant des suppléments au 3e choix de chaque catégorie de son menu à 41$ sans préavis sur le site de Montréal à Table, comme le font plusieurs autres restaurants participants.
Mon mari et moi sommes ressortis avec une impression de s'être faits berner. ..
Dommage, un si bel endroit !

Repas 3 services désastreux. J'étais convaincu que je ne me trompais pas en allant à ce resto dont les vedettes vont. Entrée de carottes roti farci de bacon et goûte de crème sur et abricot sans goût avec des morceaux dures. Gravlax trop mariné. Dorade portion échantillon. Joue de porc excellente par contre et goûteuse. Dessert glace de beurre plutôt crème de beurre. Café régulier 5$, il ne faut pas exagérer. Facture 205$

Went for MTL a Table, the food was very bland on the taste, but visually very nice, we received an amazing service from our waiter Gabriel, without him i think the resto would of been very poorly rated, very nice restaurant thought, music was at a good volume.

We came to XO as part of MTL a Table, after we've heard many rave reviews about this hidden gem. I am a food writer and a chef, so we tend to eat at some of the best establishments in the city a lot - and as someone with food intolerances, I am used to often not being able to eat everything offered. Yet the team and chef at XO were incredibly accommodating to my allergies and adapted dishes to suit my needs, even at the low price point of the special MTL a Table menu. Everything tasted good, and stand-outs included the eggplant dish and the beer-braised pork main. The cured salmon and beets starter was good, but lacked a bit more acid for perfect balance; the fish in the second main was perfectly cooked, but the cauliflower puree was a bit bland and the raw romanesco florets were a bit too hard to digest compared to the rest of the ingredients on the plate.

Speaking of the MTL a Table menu, we felt that the portions were well sized, the menu diverse, and overall it was very good value for the money. Very well done!

For us, the biggest downside was the overall decor of the place - the juxtaposition of the beautiful room with the modern XO branding, the strange plates, the red-vinyl upholstered chairs and asymmetrical candle holders left us a bit puzzled.

The service was exceptionally professional and courteous, though the server who brought us the starters (not our main server) did not know how to describe the adaptations made to one of the courses and had to go back to the kitchen and inquire about it. It would have been great to be explained the dish as it was served, and not have to wait for an explanation.

Overall, we had a good experience that gave us a taste of XO. Thanks for this!

Un plaisir pour les yeux et une explosion de saveurs . Ambiance feutrée et propice aux confidences. Nous avons passé une excellente soirée dans le cadre de l'Évènement Montréal à Table. Quelle belle initiative qui nous permet de découvrir ou redécouvrir les bonnes tables de Montréal.

Service was terrible. Restaurant was understaffed and could never get our waiter's attention. Food was good but menu limited.

I booked Sunday brunch here so that we could see what the dining room and service was like for an evening booking. We arrived on time but they were not ready for us. They told us the restaurant was full - so why did they take my booking? But we were able to eat in the bar - not what we booked. We were told to go and wait in the bar area which, by the way, was also full so nowhere to sit so all we could do was stand around while staff walked around us totally ignoring us. The girl that was supposed to be dealing with our booking, and that of a couple behind us who had the same problem, was dashing about like a rabbit in headlights! There was a small table in the bar area, right in front of the door and in the way of everything and everyone that was not laid, I presume it was for drinks. I did not want to sit at that table thank you very much. We were then asked if we could wait a little longer! By now we had waited nearly 20 minutes after our booking and by then I was in no mood for anything to eat. XO restaurant, five star hotel - you ruined our morning. We left!

Exceptional food quality and service is above and beyond many establishments.
We will go back, however next time we will try the regular menu, notvthe tasting menu.
The tasting menu is ok, small portions and a bit pricey.
Wine selections are amazing.
Food menu in lounge area looks amazing.

Nous avons pris le menu degustation + accord vin sur le theme de l'histoire de l'art. Sur les 6 services (#1 palourde, #2 vivaneau, #3 pates, #4 boeuf, #5 creme glacee, #6 foret noire), deux services (#2 et #3) n'etaient pas du tout au niveau d'un menu degustation a mon avis, donc assez decu de ma premiere experience chez XO...

My fiancé and I went there to celebrate pur anniversary and everthing was perfect. We took the tasting menu (vegetarian one) and it was really worth the price. It was so authentic and delicious, wow. The chef totally amazed us. We had a great time, the waiter was so nice, the ambiance was nice as well, it was unusually quiet so we had a great spot, really romantic. Everything was beyond what we had hoped for. Obviously it is expensive, but as I said, it is worth the price for any special occasion. Thank you again XO LE RESTAURANT!! We will go back there for sure!

We have been going to this restaurant every summer for the past 3 years when we come to Montreal. Food in the past was excellent. There was 3 of us at dinner this time and all 3 of us found that the food was not as good as the previous 3 years. Don't know if they the changed the chef or what, but we all ate different meals and all 3 of us felt that it was nowhere near as good as in the past. Service was still very good as previous years.
