About XO Le Restaurant
The French called Canada’s main financial thoroughfare "rue Saint-Jacques", and the English "St-James Street". Synonymous with opulence and influence, it was the second street in what is now Montréal. Bordered by banks and named after Jacques Olier, the street continues to be known today as a museum of high finance. Today, Hotel Le St-James, the former Merchants Bank, sits enthroned at the crossroads of history. On midsummer nights, modern-day coachmen in top hats take us back a hundred years to a day when bankers glanced at their pocket watches while crossing rue St-Jacques to the stock exchange and central telegraph offices just blocks away.
XO Le Restaurant, situated in the former Banker's Hall, is truly a beautiful space composed of a dining room, a bar & lounge, two beautiful mezzanines, as well as four alcoves which add an extra touch of comfort and privacy. Chef Robillard's exciting culinary imagination brings you modern, creative French cuisine.

XO Le Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We booked in for 11am New Year's Day brunch - $65pp +taxes and grat. It was a buffet that was described to include Oysters and Shrimp, plus carvery station, dessert buffet, etc. The venue is stunning and the server was lovely and attentive. They were late getting the buffet set-up so we waited 30 mins before we could start. The supervisor did go to all of the tables and let us know they were delayed and ensured we had drinks while we waited. Once the buffet came out, the options listed did not all come at once, the seafood came out last and by that time we had already eaten what we wanted not realizing they would bring new options later. For the price, I felt the buffet should have been better prepared and key items such as seafood brought out from the beginning. Food quality was very good.
Facture 205$
Went for MTL a Table, the food was very bland on the taste, but visually very nice, we received an amazing service from our waiter Gabriel, without him i think the resto would of been very poorly rated, very nice restaurant thought, music was at a good volume.
We came to XO as part of MTL a Table, after we've heard many rave reviews about this hidden gem. I am a food writer and a chef, so we tend to eat at some of the best establishments in the city a lot - and as someone with food intolerances, I am used to often not being able to eat everything offered. Yet the team and chef at XO were incredibly accommodating to my allergies and adapted dishes to suit my needs, even at the low price point of the special MTL a Table menu. Everything tasted good, and stand-outs included the eggplant dish and the beer-braised pork main. The cured salmon and beets starter was good, but lacked a bit more acid for perfect balance; the fish in the second main was perfectly cooked, but the cauliflower puree was a bit bland and the raw romanesco florets were a bit too hard to digest compared to the rest of the ingredients on the plate.
Speaking of the MTL a Table menu, we felt that the portions were well sized, the menu diverse, and overall it was very good value for the money. Very well done!
For us, the biggest downside was the overall decor of the place - the juxtaposition of the beautiful room with the modern XO branding, the strange plates, the red-vinyl upholstered chairs and asymmetrical candle holders left us a bit puzzled.
The service was exceptionally professional and courteous, though the server who brought us the starters (not our main server) did not know how to describe the adaptations made to one of the courses and had to go back to the kitchen and inquire about it. It would have been great to be explained the dish as it was served, and not have to wait for an explanation.
Overall, we had a good experience that gave us a taste of XO. Thanks for this!
I booked Sunday brunch here so that we could see what the dining room and service was like for an evening booking. We arrived on time but they were not ready for us. They told us the restaurant was full - so why did they take my booking? But we were able to eat in the bar - not what we booked. We were told to go and wait in the bar area which, by the way, was also full so nowhere to sit so all we could do was stand around while staff walked around us totally ignoring us. The girl that was supposed to be dealing with our booking, and that of a couple behind us who had the same problem, was dashing about like a rabbit in headlights! There was a small table in the bar area, right in front of the door and in the way of everything and everyone that was not laid, I presume it was for drinks. I did not want to sit at that table thank you very much. We were then asked if we could wait a little longer! By now we had waited nearly 20 minutes after our booking and by then I was in no mood for anything to eat. XO restaurant, five star hotel - you ruined our morning. We left!
Exceptional food quality and service is above and beyond many establishments.
We will go back, however next time we will try the regular menu, notvthe tasting menu.
The tasting menu is ok, small portions and a bit pricey.
Wine selections are amazing.
Food menu in lounge area looks amazing.
My fiancé and I went there to celebrate pur anniversary and everthing was perfect. We took the tasting menu (vegetarian one) and it was really worth the price. It was so authentic and delicious, wow. The chef totally amazed us. We had a great time, the waiter was so nice, the ambiance was nice as well, it was unusually quiet so we had a great spot, really romantic. Everything was beyond what we had hoped for. Obviously it is expensive, but as I said, it is worth the price for any special occasion. Thank you again XO LE RESTAURANT!! We will go back there for sure!
made a reservation because a friend had recommended this rest--checked the menu prior to going very limited and pricey but still went
7:30 on a friday no one in the restaurant--whoever put this menu together needs some help
in this day and age no s=alads-the only fish was cobia
wen back on sat around 9 just to check and again totally empty
We have been going to this restaurant every summer for the past 3 years when we come to Montreal. Food in the past was excellent. There was 3 of us at dinner this time and all 3 of us found that the food was not as good as the previous 3 years. Don't know if they the changed the chef or what, but we all ate different meals and all 3 of us felt that it was nowhere near as good as in the past. Service was still very good as previous years.
Major disappointment! The three colossal olives in our martinis were more of a distraction than the intended generous garnish. The cold pasta appetizer was bland and definitely not worth the carb intake. Apparently leaving most of it untouched failed to deliver a message to anyone on staff. The clam chowder, while inventive in concept, failed in its execution; "potatoes three ways" all shared the characteristic of being unpleasantly undercooked. As a departure from most of the meal, the flat iron steak was braised to perfection. The accompanying hassleback potatoes needed to be reheated as they were served stone cold. The intent of the bacon jam (aka diced bacon) stuffed crab apple was not apparent as it did not harmonize with the meal (perhaps better served with a pork dish). We were graciously comped with two desserts which were both delicious, although the mousse was challenging to eat due to its serving container - a narrow mouthed canning jar. And yes, while we are apparently outdated in that we dress up when dining, but slashed jeans on a middle aged woman and a t shirt (aka underwear) on a young man - really? XO = crossed off our list of dining destinations.
An absolutely fantastic atmosphere with delicious, very presented and extremely unique plates. Pricey for a normal dinner, but not unreasonable for a fine dining experience like this. The perfect choice for our special occasion (a graduation dinner). We would certainly return.
