Monk fish was very tough - over cooked- and was Luke warm. Stuffed trout was not very good
It was a great experience an the view was amazing
Nice evening. Staff was cordial and the view is great.
Small glass of wine, chicken rillettes not such a good dish. Menu not that interesting.
Attentive wait staff, good breakfast buffet
Atmosphere was amazing. Beautiful view of the city. Food was OK. Nothing to get excited about...especially for the cost. Impressed with the where but not exactly the what.
We eat here frequently as I love the ambiance, views, decor, and food choices. The cafe lunch is wonderful as it is the best of both worlds with a buffet for appetizers and desserts and plated main entrees. I highly recommend dining here. Our waiter, Ramy, was amazing:-)
Great place for lunch before a show at the Kimmel or Academy. And the view on a clear day is spectacular. Had the buffet lunch which is the best of both worlds as you get 1st and dessert course from the buffet and are able to choose from several menu selection for your 2nd course. Buffet always has a great selection of salads, cheeses, meats and fabulous desserts. Waited much longer than usual for entrees. Unfortunate because we had to rush thru lunch and pass on coffee in order to get to the theater on time even though we had allowed an hour and a half for lunch. Anyway.... despite the rush of this visit, would definitely eat there again.
Excellent over, except for main course of fish served with the skin side up - ugh!
Whenever we go to a Saturday concert or show we like to sample different restaurants. XIX was one we had not tried. It was closer to a $$ than the $ advertised, but the food was well made, if traditional. We had the Chestnut Soup, Trout, and Salmon. The trout was especially good with a corn oyster stuffing. The staff was older and very professional. The seats were comfortable and the view of the city nice. We would go again.
Was a lovely night we came after a matinee show. Food was high quality not overpriced and service was friendly and attentive. Definitely going back. Place and view is very chic. City views are great.
We were attending a performance at 7 pm at the
academy of Music. We told our server and he made sure we were served and received our bill in time for seeing the show. The food was good and the Little neck clams were great.
The fixed price food selection is great. But nothing is any better than the service we get from Luba. We were a large table and she is outstanding as a server. I cannot say enough positive thoughts about her. She is the main reason we return to that restaurant before the Friday matinee concerts at Kimmel Center.
Paying for the ambiance at XIX. The food was not impressive however, the service was exceptional. Took a friend for her birthday and XIX never acknowledged the occasion. I wish the visit would have come together, the potential is there.
The food was incredible & so was the service. However, when I left a note for a birthday dessert to be brought out for my boyfriend, they came to ask me what we wanted for dessert and I had to tell him I left a note with the reservation, which kind of ruined it.
The service was terrible. We waited 10 minutes for water, then another 10 mins for our check. A business lunch should be an hour ...we were there an hour and 20 mins. Too many other good options in the city so I don’t plan on returning anytime soon.
My wife was very happy and that's really all that matters. Service was impeccable.
Beautiful location and views. Could be a fine dining experience except it lacked some of the niceties like a place to check coats. They did do a great job helping us celebrate our special occasions by bringing us a complementary glass of champagne.
Overall very good experience, food was very good, cocktails and wine list also good and service was very attentive. Outstanding views of Philly skyline if you can get a window table. Only real concern is that it is pretty expensive, so more for special occasions.
A fair dinner with excellent service. I had the oysters, and the Monkfish while I was here. I love their oysters, and the bartender made me a customized non-alcoholic drink to go with the Monfish. The Monkfish was good (initially a bit salty), and the rogout was okay ( I found it to be a bit heavy and overwhelming). The fish to ragout ratio could have been better. The meal wasn't scrumptious enough for the cost, but the drink was excellent. I think it will be great if they could rework the menu a bit, especially in the dessert section. My server excellent, and the ambiance was fairly quaint.
Excellent service. But the food is very bland and overpriced. At least put salt and pepper on the table.
Then the bill came and a drink listed as 13 dollars on the menu had an "up-charge" of
$9.50 for ice. Last time I checked, ice was frozen water. Totally shameful practice.
The hostess tried to make nice, but she referred to us as "this one" to our waiter, who was
obviously trying to explain that we were not happy. We will not be back. A shame, as this
used to be a lovely experience.
The music in the reception area was jarring and discordant, and did not match the space. There were a couple of blips in the service, most notably that the courses arrived too quickly and overlapped, cluttering the table and making us feel rushed, which is a shameful disservice to the excellent food. Overall though, it was a good experience.
We often dine at XIX before theater or an orchestra performance. They have been very accommodating of our "old folks" habit of ordering and sharing from the appetizers and salads sections of the menu.
On this visit we were promptly seated, served water, and told who our server would be. When she became unavailable, Shango stepped in with great professionalism. He was attentive but not intrusive. He asked if we had a curtain time and nicely paced our dinner to accommodate that time.
The oysters were fresh, sweet and had no grit or pieces of shell. The crab cake was both tasty and beautifully presented. The chicken rillettes came in a small jar with a slightly sweet sauce on top of an excellent chicken pate. All around, a very nice experience. Do go!
Overall a great experience. The only oddity was no coat check. We came in literally in the middle of a snowstorm, and had to drape our snow-covered coats on our chairs, to drip onto the floor. Very strange.
It was alright, the view is the only thing that this place has going for it. Food was alright and nothing special to write about. Bread was burnt, eggs were dry, Hollandaise sauce had no taste, mimosas had way too much stale boxed OJ, desserts were unimaginative and so on. No real value!
The first course buffet was picket over, smoked salmon was dried out, for some odd reason the breads were not on the buffet but in the next room on the dessert table., there was no butter available - only hard cream cheese. Waited half an hour for a martini to be served. Main course, served at table, of Atlantic Char was award winning - the only bright spot in the brunch. Banquette sofa springs were sagging and most uncomfortable to sit upon. Desserts were so, so. Service was terrible. Will not be going back.
Nice place, great decor but limited vegetarian, which I suppose is expected since it is a sea food place :). Had a good time over all and would love to try it in summer for the open tables.
The waiter Rasheed was very nice and friendly, the service was slow but perfect for date night, it gives you time to have conversation and admire your date. The sides should have been bigger to share. I did notice several spots on the chairs but nothing to gross, but for the price of the food they can change the chairs or have them cleaned, Great discount on Parking the hostess or wait staff should double check if you need your parking pass validated, it was inconvenient to make it to the lobby only to have to return to the restaurant to have your parking validated. Last few things the elevators were slow and to get to the bathroom was a maze. Not sure I would return but I didn’t enjoy my date and the atmosphere.
We had a 1pm Curtain Call at the Academy of Music and an 11:30 Brunch reservation. We were seated promptly at 11:30, which is when Brunch begins. They had noted and were very aware that we had theatre at 1pm. Service was excellent as was Brunch! Excellent choice for the Theatre District!
Service was very slow. In addition, the food was nothing special. They forgot my mother's salad and wanted to give me shrimp cocktail, which I did not order. I have been here before and seem to remember the same problem. We heard other people complaining. We were there for lunch. I like the location, but it needs to step it up.
Arrived late due to storm made us feel welcomed attentive great service and food and out in time for theatre
Lovely restaurant - beautiful city views and excellent service.
The food is as should be expected...excellent.
The bar is a fun experience prior to dining as well. Very friendly bartenders.
The meal was excellent Nice view. The appetizers were different. They tasted very good the desserts were awesome. I had the fish of the day which was pan seared striped bass. It was very tasty and fresh. I will definitely go back again
The meal was delicious and presented very well. We waited in the bar to be seated and the view was nice. The only down side was the service. It took a while to have our drink and food order taken but besides that everything else was perfect.
Our family of 4, including 2 teens, had a very nice dinner at XIX prior to a Philadelphia Orchestra concert. Service was attentive and the food was very good and beautifully presented. The decor is beautiful and dramatic, and makes for a very special evening. Would recommend XIX for special occasion dining.
XIX has improved dramatically over the past few years. Eating well and being comfortable are well within reach. Our server, Dom, was attentive but did not hover. He kept us on track to make our fairly early orchestra curtain. We shared appetizers including cheese and sausage and a salad. Everything was well prepared and nicely served.
We enjoyed the 3-course prix fixe lunch. I loved my arctic char with couscous and broccolini and the buffer of small portion desserts. The place is light and airy. Tables are not close together. It's a wonderful place to enjoy a leisurely lunch.
the lunch buffet -- appetizers and desserts -- plus a small selection of entrees is a great value. No dinner needed that night.
The food was very good, but unfortunately the poor service may discourage us from returning. The waitress approached our table, explained the buffet & seat service format, and poured water without offering us any beverages. She returned later to take our main course order, and tried to leave before we could finish. We ordered decaff coffee. It took her nearly 15 minutes to deliver. Her inattentive attitude spoiled an otherwise good experience.
Best value Sunday brunch!
