Easter brunch done right. Simply lovely.
The setting, the service, the food were all impeccable. Our waiter, Dom. could not have been better. We shared a shrimp cocktail appetizer and found it to be the best we ever had. My steak was delicious and my partner's crab cakes were seashore- perfect. We will be returning soon!
Great restaurant in every way! Food was excellent plentiful and I would definitely come back when I’m in Philadelphia. Our server was attentive friendly . We had the Sunday brunch. Lots of cold Canadian oysters which where tasty but small , jumbo quality firm shrimp I had the steak and eggs. Steak was so tender! You will be happy when you leave!!
Love the food and atmosphere
The food is excellent. The servers are lovely but everything is much too slow. It has happened to us twice that we have had to cancel part of the meal to make it to the theatre on time. This does not happen to us elsewhere.
Pre theatre brunch was SO enjoyable we almost miss curtain! Daniel was a wonderful waiter and took great care of us. The brunch was delicious and Ill definitely be back
Our bus group goes there once every spring. We were a little surprised to see the price increases but I guess that is inevitable. Most of us ordered the fish of the day. I always order fish as a main dish since the chef surely knows how to prepare fish. It is always juicy and tasty. the Great Table is wonderful with amazing selection of salads and desserts plus a cheese platter. we need timely service so we can get to the Kimmel center for the pre concert talk at 1 PM and our waitress accomplished that with a smile and separate checks for each of us.
Wonderful dining experience, delicious food, beautiful atmosphere .
Place is beautiful, service was good, food was below average for such a luxurious place.
We had our anniversary dinner at XIX and it was perfect! The food was incredible, the ambience was great, and our waiter was outstanding!
Sorry to see such awful reviews. We had a wonderful time! Food and drink were amazing!!
Needs to catch up with an old friend
Gathered with my wife for her birthday, the view was amazing, food was amazing, we both had the 12oz steak, prepared perfect. It was very dark in the room, and rather cold. The waiter was very polite, but our food took forever to come, we dined for almost 2 1//2 hrs due to waiting for our food. Overall it’s a nice place.
This was my first time back since the renovations. It didn't look different. There was almost no one there except one other table.
The waiting staff was pleasant, but inexperienced.
The noise level is adequate but one can hear other conversations in the room. There is an echo.
The food was good but as part of the cafe buffet did not offer sufficient variety in the salads. Generally, guests prefer a non cream soup for lunch. Cheeses were good. More cracker variety would have been appropriate instead of a variety of breads.
I missed the previous staff who was so efficient.
IT WAS VERY NICE. THE MASH POTATOES NEED A LITTLE WORK. THEY TASTED LIKE BOX MASH POTAOTES. I DID'T LIKE THEM AT ALL. OTHER THAN THAT EVEYTHING ELSE WAS GOOD.
XIX has been my #1 go-to Saturday lunch spot downtown, as well as for happy hour and after-theater drinks. When out-of-town guests are in Philadelphia, XIX has been where I took them first over the past 10+ years. Although the food quality this past Saturday was high, I was quite disappointed in several changes that are unfortunately pushing this enthusiastic repeat customer away.
Decor: The previously beautiful cafe space: It looks like a concerted redesign effort was made to cheapen the appearance of what was previously the most stunning semi-casual dining space in the city. The beautiful muted airy metallics and light blues have been replaced by gaudy ceiling painting, masquerade masks (replaced the elegant pale blue circular glass sconce sculpture), purple circular banquette upholstery, and the previously-gorgeous curtains now are filled with what appears like IKEA draperies. I love IKEA, but this style feels tacky in such a previously lovely space. The ante-room has also been downgraded with a similar design treatment.
Offerings felt downgraded as well: I am only a coffee drinker at XIX and nowhere else. It was a real treat to enjoy XIX's coffee in the past, but now it tastes different and is served in diner-style mugs vs. the elegant china of the past. As a backup to the delicious coffee, mango ice tea used to be a staple, but this is apparently no longer available. XIX was special in offering simple syrup to sweeten the awesome mango iced tea to the individual diner's taste, but this too was no longer available.
The cafe lunch was a staple of my "ladies who lunch" group for many years; however, after a hiatus, the price-point of no longer offering this on a Saturday but instead being restricted to the pricey Sunday brunch menu on a Saturday came as a disappointing surprise. We very much enjoyed the seafood, but typically the value of the raw bar is most appreciated on a Sunday in the pearl room (which was unavailable due to a private
Service was not great. I was there 3 weeks ago and had the same server who was fine. This time other servers helped and it was confusing and difficult to get our food, silverware, and coffee. We even were told splitting the check on 5 credits cards was a problem. Disappointed since it was for a surprise birthday brunch!
First class dining experience with a knowledgeable staff!
We booked this restaurant to try a different place than our usual, for a family birthday dinner. The location was lovely. Our first clue is that there were only 2 or 3 other parties in the vast room. We all thought “uh oh.” The service was initially fine; then our waiter left and was replaced by a server who was mediocre at best. “Here’s some of your food” should not be the phrase used at what we thought was a high end restaurant (confirmed by the check). The service in the second half of the meal was pretty poor; we never received our cheese plate appetizer, so told them we would instead share it for dessert; we then waited a very long time for it to come and by the time it came, we were ready to leave. The menu was fine, the food exceedingly average, and overall, the entire experience was a disappointment. It’s a shame because the room and the view are terrific. We won’t go back.
What a wonderful place, we took our BFF there to celebrate her 50th and we had a great experience. The food was great as was the atmosphere. The waiter and all other staff were attentive and super friendly. I would definitely recommend and I will be going back.
The brunch is fantastic! I loved the pastries, all made in house!
This was our second visit to XIX. Our first trip was amazing, so when we decided to celebrate my sister’s wedding anniversary we decided to celebrate at XIX. Huge mistake. As soon as we were seated (on time for our 9:30p reservation) were immediately told that the kitchen was closing and that we had to make our dinner selections immediately (all before even taking our beverage order). Why is there a 9:30p reservation if the kitchen is not prepared to manage it? We were just a party of 6. We waited over 30 minutes for beverages (the restaurant was empty so the wait made no sense) and the food was terrible. Three people in our party ordered the filet mignon special. All the three found the filet to be tough, chewy, and none of them cooked to order. I ordered the sea bass special. It was greasy and looked as if it had been sitting for hours. The sea bass was served with green beans and baby potatoes. The green beans were so greasy and over cooked I could barely pick them up with a fork. And there was one potatoe, literally. I was super embarrassed as I had ranted about what a wonderful restaurant it was to the group before we arrived. At the end of the dinner we all went to WaWa for hoagies because we were so hungry (no one could stomach their meal). This dinner was supposed to be a celebration, a detail we provided to the restaurant, so you think they would have taken extra care to, at the very least, provide prompt service and properly cooked fresh food. Again, super embarrassing!
Our entrees were very good and cooked exactly as requested. The bar music could be heard as we were eating and it was a bit loud. The service was attentive and professional. One concern was that we were seated next to a window and it was chilly.
We were there for my friend’s birthday party (as notified thru Opentable reservation - both option choice & comment) but the service did not recognize any of it. Very disappointed.
The wait staff and bartenders were attentive and personable. We received excellent service but given space and left alone to have a quiet peaceful meal.
My experience was Exceptional. It’s was my wife birthday. The food was good! Will recommend this place to anyone!
We had an amazing experience. Our bartender, Steve was such a wonderful host. Personable and caring. Able to engage in conversation with anyone. Food and drinks were prepared perfectly. Our server, Dan, went above and beyond. I highly recommend going for dinner, brunch, breakfast or even just a cocktail.
I was very disappointed with the food. The "brussel sprout" salad had no brussel sprouts. When I asked the waiter, he said they used the leaves. There were about 5 leaves (not whole sprouts). It was awful.
The macaroni cheese and crab was mediocre.
Portions were small.
It is a restautant for "foodies" who do not know better
Long wait. Long to check coat. Reasturant temp. Cold. Food good. Just seem to miss a beat
Very disappointed that the cafe lunch is no longer available on Saturday
Amazing place. Everything was incredibly fresh. We went to get massages at the hotel and then to this restaurant after for brunch and it was the perfect day. This is absolutely a place i'd go to again
We had a marvelous time at the Bellevue Hotel brunch. I was used to their cafe brunch but this is certainly much more upscale and good. The service is very attentive. It is a great place to take out of town guests for a treat. I highly recommend it.
We originally would love to have a friend who has difficulty walking join us but it was hard for her to walk up all the steps to the hotel and get up the elevator. Aside from that, it was lovely.
We have been to XIX several times over the years with our four daughters prior to the PA Ballet. The service is always impressive and the food is delicious. The experience of sitting in the main dining room feels like you are part of history. We are never disappointed when we visit XIX and our daughters always ask to return again!
This was a very pleasant dining experience. At the table, we discussed what we’d have at the 2nd visit. I’m sure this will become a regular visit from my Wife and myself. Thanks
Great service wonderful experience outstanding views
The brunch was over priced and no one in my party enjoyed their food. My waffle was hard and the chicken was greasy. They probably should have used white meat.
I visit tis gorgeous restaurant for a friends birthday on 3.2.19 for Saturday brunch. The service was stellar our waitress Luba was a gem. The buffet food was great and so were the pastries and deserts. The entrees were not that great. My chicken and waffle dish had some sort of asian infusion sauce on it in addition to the butter and syrup that tis dish traditional comes with. It wasn't a hit for anyone who ordered it. I think management should reconsider offering this dish.
The brunch is marvelous. The room is beautiful. Both appetizer and dessert are at separate stands and you order an entree. A very elegant setting that totally matched the food.
Service was extremely slow (35 min for bread) & we had other plans so we left before the appetizers
