To start, we have eaten at Xico more than a dozen times and it has become one of our absolute favorite restaurants, so much so that we invited 4 friends to join us. We are also usually very easy going restaurant patrons and even if things go a bit sideways we laugh it off and enjoy the evening regardless. But not last night. Twenty minutes after ordering drinks we were asked to remind our server what drinks we had ordered, and then waited another 20 minutes before we got them. Before the drinks ever arrived a server started bringing entrees, even though our appetizers had not showed up yet either. The manager was very apologetic throughout but it didn't seem to improve anything, although she graciously did not charge us for our drinks. As a final straw, usually the food at Xico is spectacular but a few in our party ordered the Vegetable Empanadas which tasted only of fried dough without any flavor from the filling. I guess all restaurants can suffer from inconsistencies at times, very sorry to see Xico go downhill.
Amazing as always. I can still taste the creamy avocado in the guacamole. Perfect balance of heat, salt and goodness paired with amazing fresh tortilla chips. The shrimp special was amazing. Shrimp was just slightly over cooked but flavors were amazing. As always the margarita was spot on and the mezcal flight was a great experience.
The food here is uniformly excellent and creative. This is a sophisticated upscale Mexican restaurant which has been consistently excellent. I have eaten here on a half dozen occasions. When the weather is nice there is lovely outdoor dining on their back patio.
The food was delicious but the service was poor. It took about 20 minutes for us to receive 2 margaritas on the rocks and the waitress never checked back on anything. She removed the appetizer plates but that was about it. We had to ask someone else for a check. She stopped by and checked on two other tables and brought their drinks before ours and we were seated first My boyfriend and I were celebrating our five year anniversary so we were bummed the service was not better. This was our first time at Xixo. The food was good enough that we will probably give it a second go.......
I've been coming to XICO on SE Division Street for a few years. Each time it is a 5 star experience in creative chef-led cuisine expertly led by Portland chef Kelly Myers. James Beard would be proud to see this restaurant thriving and to experience this Mexican food like you have yet to taste here.
This was our second visit to Xico, and we were again impressed with the quality and originality of the food. Definitely not your typical "Tex-Mex", smothered in cheese. Instead Xico offers authentic Mexican dishes prepared to a high standard. Don't miss the sopes and the tomales, and if you happen to visit on a day when the crab tostadas are on the menu, you are truly in luck .
This was my 3rd visit to Xico and it was another flawless event. We were there early for a pre-theater dinner and by the time we left at 6:30, the restaurant was packed. Our server was attentive and moved things along without making us feel rushed. I had the carnitas dinner, small, and it was plenty for a moderate appetite. The chips and dips are great as are the margaritas and the Sopaipillas desert we shared was fabulous. I highly recommend Xico and already look forward to my next visit.
This was my first visit to Xico and I loved it! The food was excellent. I had the fish and it was perfectly done. The refried black beans were a delicious accompaniment and the handmade tortillas were just lovely. The margaritas were perfectly made. The service was very friendly and attentive when we needed them and giving us privacy when we didn't need them. My date and I had a wonderful time.
Just had dinner there for the fourth time. The food is consistently excellent. Went for the March dining month, and every course was delicious. The lime cake with toasted coconut was wonderful, dense and sweet, but not overly sweet. They make great margaritas too. The service is always good, and everyone is friendly. In the warmer months, the outside patio dining is especially pleasant, away from the noise of the indoor dining.
I love Xico and I love bringing new people to try it. I've been there about 4x in the past few months and love it every time. I particularly like the Monday night chicken dinner for two special. The value gives me the opportunity to order several sides to try along with it as well as great cocktails. I will say that this past visit was the first time that I had really great service. All if the other times were just adequate. I'll keep coming and sharing this gem w my friends!
Delicious food! Interesting salsas and good cocktails. Not your run of the mill Mexican. Lots of fresh flavors. We felt like we were in a cozy little gem on a rainy night. The pozole, carnitas, empanadas, and the salads were wonderful. We will definitely be back!
I highly recommend Xico for those with an adventurous palate who enjoy very, very good food. My friends and I shared a most delicious guacamole, so light and fresh, and red salsa with chips hot from the kitchen! I enjoyed the vegetarian three-course, restaurant month special of a salad (delicious!), bean burrito (with the most delicious corn wrap and sauce), and a lime coconut cake (so light and fresh). My daughters shared the chicken dish, and they could not get enough of the sauce, and the chicken was fork tender. We also enjoyed the house and the Cadillac margaritas, so fresh! Fresh is the best word to praise Xico! I wish we lived in town so that we could go back and try every item on the menu.
Great experience! We came in for dining month, the meat and vegetarian options were equally delicious and filling. The noise level was perfect, loud enough to lull the baby to sleep and still be able to converse easily. We made a reservation indicating we would have a baby with us and the staff chose the perfect seat for us so we would be comfortable and also out of the way.
We have eaten at Xico several times. I tend to feel differently each time, depending on what we order. While the service is always outstanding, I find the food varies between good and very good -- it seldom seems "outstanding" to me. I almost always, however, find Xico tremendously overpriced (with the exception of their Monday night chicken dinners, which are quite a bargain!). While it is "fancy" Mexican food and uses the highest quality ingredients, the prices are still very high, considering how many very good Mexican restaurants there are nearby, also with high quality fresh ingredients. We end up spending what we would for a very fancy French meal, even if we do not order dessert! Thus, I have mixed feelings. It is a very good restaurant, with great service and ambiance (a bit noisy, but not too bad), but the very good food still seems way overpriced to us (and we eat out a lot)!
