Xanh Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I had dinner here on date night (Sat. night, 7 pm) away from the kids. We ordered the Chilean Sea Bass wrapped in a banana leaf and the vegetarian version of mellow yellow noodles(with tofu). We felt that the sea bass was a bit fishy and the portion small for its price ($38). We thought the noodles were undercooked, and the dish was too oily. It was very loud, too, so it was hard to hear my husband talk! I noticed one of the rooms was completely empty. I don't know if the management or chef changed, but Xanh seems to have gone downhill compared to other times I ate there.
Minus the 10 trains that passed through during our dinner, yes, they are next to a train station and the one very unimpressed appetizer of shrimp and crap served on a Tostitos chip it went very well. The tuna tartare, the pork taco and noodle dish was delicious and fragrant flavors. Our waitress and servers were attentive and very nice. I did note when making my reservations that we were celebrating our 22 wedding anniversary and no one said anything which was sad. Why bother asking if there is a special occasion when making the reservations if no one is going to at least acknowledge it.
When arrived at the restaurant, we found it closed. A waiter at adjacent restaurant told us it has been closed for days, yet there was no message to that effect when I called the restaurant. Instead, the message was, they are too busy to answer calls, and directed callers to make reservations on line. Which we did at the Open Table, only to find it closed, and having to scramble to find another restaurant. Very disappointing!
I remembered the food to be better, the spicy ahi roll never came until after we had eaten our meal, the waitress was beside herself, the rice wrapping was soooo chewy , it was unreal, shaking beef was still delicious as were the noodle, could have been warmer.
Overall, the meal was tainted by the missing appetizer, we did asked about it three time.
The noise in the restaurant is beyond maddening, you have to scream to make yourself heard.
Probably will go someplace else next time I visit MV
I was very disappointed this time with Xanh. I took my team there for lunch. I don't mind having a buffet however most of the food options were not refilled so we had very limited food choices. When they ran out of the fresh hand rolls they put out lettuce and bottled poppy seed salad dressing!
The Vietnamese iced tea was not good. We ordered one, they brought two and then when this was brought to the waiters attention he said we ordered two. He did remove this from our tab however the attitude was palpable.
I used to come to this restaurant for lunch when I worked in Mtn. View and raved about it. I was so disappointed I won't be back.
There are a lot (A LOT) of options on Castro in Mountain View. We enjoyed the food at Xanh and the scene is fun. The service was not great even though they were not desperately busy. We'll try other places in this neighborhood next time and would go back to Xanh for sure.
As always the food at Xanh was absolutely delicious! The glass noodles with crab was yummy as was the mellow yellow curry. The ahi tuna tartare is dramatic in its presentation with dry ice and so good! The whole restaurant was so noisy though-we were surprised it was so busy on a Wednesday evening. We'll be back though, noise or no noise because the food is that good!
I came back to Xanh after not having been for many years. This time, I was very disappointed. The food and drinks are now way over price. A glass of wine for $14??? Really?
The food was OK. Nothing outstanding like I used to remember. It did not represent the Vietnamese food feel you used to have, even though you all tried to be fusion.
I had a gift card that you did not honor because of the change of ownership or something like that. It was very disappointing, but we did appreciate the little discount you gave us for the inconvenience.
I would recommend Xanh for the ambience, but not the price.
Too few waitstaff. Poor service. Happy hour ends too early.
Food was OK but not outstanding.
I'd noted birthday as special note on OpenTable, but that evoked no response from the receptionist or wait staff.
More than 10 minutes before a waiter appeared. No happy hour service at all inside dining rooms.
Dined during happy hour after seeing the happy hour menu advertised on their website. Happy hour prices included Crab Martini and Satays. When given the menu at the restaurant, those items were not listed. We showed the waitress the items advertised on their website happy hour menu and asked if she'd honor them. She immediately said no. Disappointing that she didn't say "yes we will, or let me check with the manager". You'd think they'd rather honor a few dollars off and have happy customers rather than a negative review on OpenTable and Yelp, but alas no. Very short sighted of the staff and restaurant despite the good food.
Our party of 7 included 3 vegans ... all of us greatly enjoyed all the food that we ate. Cocktails also very good. We ate outside... weather was beautiful and not too noisy. I have been to Xanh many times, but the others had never been (4 were from out of town). Everyone greatly enjoyed the experience!!
Generous 2 hour window for happy hour, with lots of great options for food and drinks. We chose outside seating, which was nice, despite the loud train horn that sounded several times as it passed. The Vietnamese tacos were especially fabulous. The Xanh salad and Kobe roll were also excellent. The Kamikaze wings were very tasty, but almost too crispy. The Crispy Shrimp Clouds sounded interesting, but were not very good.
The server was fabulous! She was always there when we needed her, but did not hover.
Stopped in here for a quick dinner and loved the food -- very inventive menu. It's not exactly purely Vietnamese food I don't think (spicy tuna roll and Vietnamese tacos) but seemed like it would have some good choices for a wide range of taste. Service was friendly and efficient, and we enjoyed eating outdoors on their extensive patio.
Xanh used to be one of my favorite places. Lately, they have become very busy, careless and the place itself incredibly noisy. The waiters all want to show they remember everything people at the table order without writing. Of course, they forget and either mix up things or disturb you multiple times in order to ask again what one wanted. Moreover, they do not seem to understand that not all food is to be delivered at the table at the same time or worse, someone's appetizer with someone else's main course etc, in a word, a mess. The peanut sauce for the fresh rolls is a joke these days, more water than anything else. They also gave up a very sophisticated desert called Ménage à trois.
We went to Xanh for Father's Day. We ate on the earlier side because we were attending the Theatreworks production. We got in an out easily (5:30 seating for 7 show - could have used 15 more min.) The food was wonderful especially the Ankle biters (spicy shrimp - but not too much spice) and the eggplant was great. We also got the Yellow curry and mango or papaya salad. All yummy. As well as the great lettuce wraps. The cocktails weren't that great. As the place filled up the service got slower. But the server was sweet and helpful.
