Wren Bistro & Bar
Food was exceptional as was the service. Food was reasonably priced. Drink from bar was a bit pricey, cost more than food.
Despite having made an advance reservation, we were seated at the absolute worst table in the place. It was very noisy and we were in a major traffic pattern to the restrooms, back entrance, and offices. The hostess could not have been more unpleasant and unaccommodating when I asked for an alternative table. Service was rushed and perfunctory, as there was a large tour group seated around the same time. To their credit, I believe the staff was trying to get our order into the kitchen before the big group placed theirs. The food, however, was excellent. I've been to Wren numerous times and have always had good experiences...but not this time. The unwillingness to find a seating solution and the unfriendly attitude will make me think twice about a return visit.
Food and beverage options excellent. Service excellent. Pacing was very good, and the manager came by to say “hello” and “thank you”. We were taking a friend out to lunch for his 84th birthday. The server brought him a complimentary piece of coconut cake and even brought one for my wife who had her birthday the same week!
This eatery “sweats the small stuff”.
Restaurant not totally full but service was slow and spotty. Ordered the Shrimp and Grits entree without looking at the rest of the menu. Had it a year ago and it was the best shrimp and grits I had ever had. Recipe changed totally from a light, flavorful dish to one heavy with cheese that caused the grits to stick together.
Nice, quaint, very pleasant experience, best sweet tea, waitress was very helpful. Overall one of the nicest restaurants I been to down in Beaufort.
Food, service and atmosphere
Ben took care of us as this was a gift and it all worked perfectly!!
great visit, love the high top table by the window, our server was attentive, meals were outstanding. Great value all around. Can't wait till our next visit
Very good experience!
Large portions, nice space, fast service. Highly recommended.
Food was not good and it was very expensive. Very subpar. However the atmosphere is quiet nice.
I had heard about Wren for a long time and was happy to share a birthday lunch with a friend. I was early and my first impressions were not good. The hostess was scattered, didn't register my reservation and didn't seem to care whether I was there or not, and greeted me repeatedly as a new customer while I waited for my friend. But it got much better. Our sever, Paula, was a delight - gorgeous smile, quick to share a laugh, knowledgeable about the menu and attentive without being intrusive. Our food was very slow to come, so don't come here if you're watching the clock. But our lunches were worth the wait. My friend had one of the burgers and loved it. I had the salad with fried green tomato croutons and bacon and it was marvelous. If you have the time, the food is worth the wait. And Wren is popular enough that I guess they don't feel that they have to work on the front of house issues.
Have dined her many times. Look forward to a good experience each time. With the exception of some of my food being cool(quickly corrected) it was another pleasant dinner. Will return.
For some reason the food took forever to arrive. Some food arrived with additional food coming much later forcing people to eat at different times. Have the kitchen not been backed up this would’ve been an excellent experience. However, my first time dining and I will give average score.
Wren never fails to disappoint with a great selection of flavors and outstanding bar. Paula, our server, was personable and was present enough to take care of every need but not intrusive. Always a guaranteed pleasant dining experience.
Unfortunately after a fabulous lunch experience with yummy salads, our dinner was a big disappointment. It started with tasty hummus and warm pita. But our main courses were sub-par. My husband’s chicken was dry and way too pecan heavy with lumpy mashed potatoes... my meatloaf was uninspiring and over cooked with carrots that were too al dente... My daughter really enjoyed her salmon & sides.
Will definitely return for lunch and salads!!
Good food but the service was very unprofessional. Our main course was brought in before they had cleared the shared starters. Just plopped the plates down and left. Felt like we were in the way and they just wanted to get rid of us ☹️
Excellent service by Barb. Good food with very large portions.

The food was spectacular and the wait staff very nice. Would highly recommend for any occasion!
Delightful evening. Drinks and food were exceptional.
Great service, great food, wonderful ambiance and appreciative that the hostess accommodated our request for a special table for a special anniversary.
Atmosphere is very nice. Cocktails were excellent. Service was extremely slow. I ordered the pecan chicken which was rubbery. My daughter ordered the shrimp and grits which she liked and husband ordered the meatloaf which he liked as well. However, overall it was an underwhelming experience. Would probably go again just to sit at the bar for cocktails.
We decided to go to Beaufort on a last-minute day-trip. I immediately thought of Wren for dinner. We stopped in at 5 pm to get a good seat at the bar, so we could watch the March Madness games. Phil greeted us at the bar, and we were parked there for the rest of the night. We enjoyed great drinks (Bourbon based), delicious appetizers, and excellent main courses. I had the shrimp and grits, and my friend had the flank steak. We were very happy with our meals. Wren is a must-stop for us whenever we visit Beaufort.
Three of us shared three plates that were all well prepared and tasty. Our waitress was excellent. The only thing that seemed strange is they were out of coleslaw which I thought was one of their signature accompaniments and would have gone well our dishes. We were offered fruit instead.
My family and I were really looking forward to dinner because of Wren’s good reviews but it was definitely disappointing. They were literally “out” of 3 of the 5 things we tried to order. Service was good but the food they did have was just “okay” and definitely not worth the price.
My wife and I love the food at Wren and have dinner there once a month. However, service is less than stellar. Management should definitely look at their staffing. I waited 10 minutes for my 1st drink and gave up waiting for the 2nd - walked straight to the bar. It’s unfortunate that this is something we’ve come to expect.
We had lunch with friends there during the week and it was so good, we went back for dinner on Friday night. Dinner was also delicious. We will be back again soon.
Whenever we come to Beaufort, Wren is a “must do”. We love their hamburgers for a late afternoon meal.
The Wren is our "go to" restaurant for lunch in Beaufort. The food and service are always terrific. We have tried a variety of items on the lunch menu and have never been disappointed. Some of our favorites other than the Burger is the Butcher's Sandwich, Southern Tier (fried green tomatoes bacon, cheese, etc), and the Uptown Grilled Cheese. Each of these will cause you to smack your lips after your first bite.
Booked a table and we were seated promptly. The meatloaf plate was best I've ever had. Beautifully prepared and accompanied by carrots, mashed potatoes, crispy onions and wrapped in bacon! All hot and delicious.
Really delicious restaurant with cool interior design. The salads were plentiful with very fresh greens and the sandwiches are huge. The fried green tomatoes were a great share for 4 people served on top of delicious cheese grits and topped with yummy sauces and garnish. The services was good and fast. Second time I was there and can't wait to go back for another lunch.
Loved it. Will go back soon. Service and food was terrific.
Excellent food and great service. My wife had the shrimp and grits which really enjoyed. I tried the the special, candied snapper with risotto and spinach. The fish was cooked perfectly.
Service was poor... appetizers great... main course took forever and was cold when finally served
Food and cocktail quality declining, which is a shame because they’ve historically been one of the freshest and tastiest local options. Feels as if you have to be an insider to warrant friendliness from the staff; not that anyone was rude, but just sort of “eh”. Attention to detail in presentation is gone. Menu is always the same and lacks imagination. No GF options. Used to be my fav but beginning to enjoy other local spots more.
Fried green tomatoes, usually my favorite, were heavy, tasteless, and the grits underneath added nothing to the dish. It is billed as an appetizer and it was huge. We couldn't, and didn't want to, fiinish it all. We got the Mushroom flatbread which was slighly melted cheese with mushrooms on a pita. We were full after the apps. When we realized the large portion size, we changed our order to one entree to split. The shrimp pasta was good.
Everything about Wren made this a very enjoyable evening with friends
We went for lunch on a Saturday around 1130. Bartender was also the server, she was very nice. Food was good. DH had fish and chips, there was a LOT of breading on the fish but he liked the fish itself. I had a roast beef sandwich which tasted great. Presentation was nice. We both got fries, and they were plentiful.
There were 2 other parties in the whole place, and we placed our orders almost immediately. It took maybe 30-40 minutes for the food to arrive. That's the reason for one star off. If they had been super busy or we ordered something special, we would have been more understanding about the long prep time.
I went to Wren with friends after the Beaufort Film Festival. First, great wines at really reasonable prices. Not your average bar wine list. I wasn't very hungry so I had the Mushroom Flatbread with goat cheese and arugula. It was delish and plenty of food for a lite dinner. One of my friends had the Crispy Fish and really loved it. One friend gave me a taste of the seafood bisque which was among the best I have ever had. Next time I'm ordering that. Great food that is interesting without being needlessly fussy.
This meal was fabulous, made only better by our server and the rest of the staff.
Paula the wonder food guide, PEI mussels incredible, pasta perfection, decaf coffee hot!
