About Workshop Kitchen + Bar

Dedicated to food, drink, design, and community. Workshop Kitchen + Bar is Palm Spring's newest gem in the heart of the Uptown Design District.
Located in the Class 1 Historic El Paseo building from 1926, Workshop’s Industrial chic interior gives the historic space a contemporary edge befitting the locale.

Our kitchen is based around seasonal products from local farms, so the menu changes often. Although "Americana" may best describe the style of our food, influences are many. Favorite techniques in the kitchen include our wood-fired pizza oven, wood-fired grill, and custom sous-vide station.
The bar looks mostly to American classics and carefully homemade basics. Original cocktails vary with the market's availability and our bartender's mood.

* Please note: Booth seating is limited and is reserved for parties of 3 - 6. We will do our best to accommodate your requests, but make no guarantees. For special requests, please call us at (760) 459-3451. *

We chose workshop for our last night in Palm Springs. We were seated at the community table which, despite being one long table, gave us enough room to feel separate from our neighbors. My husband enjoyed his cocktails. They were inventive with lots of choices. The food was meh. We had the brussels which were too sweet and the duck fat fries to start. For the entree we had the scallops which were gritty and overcooked and the hanger steak which was ok, but again overseasoned. A good piece of steak should be able to stand more on its own. I had to ask for refils of my water. The most attentive person was the one who took away our plate when there was still half the food on it. There were large parties trying to out do each other singing happy birthday. Overall it just wasnt up to the caliber I was expecting given the $150 bill for two people.

Have wanted to dine here for some time and with friends in town from the UK thought the timing for this first visit was appropriate. Obviously well-patronized, food was a bit better than average but not outstanding, service was fine but menu and drink offerings were definitely over-priced.

We've eaten at Workshop many times and have always taken the "small plate" approach. At our servers strong recommendation we tried the whole black sea bass and were richly rewarded. It's fantastic. Great flavors and a wonderful presentation.

Our waiter was extremely negative and not very helpful. It was our 41st anniversary and he seemed very put out. We will not recommend or come back.

We definitely enjoyed our food at Workshop but the experience was made all the better by our wonderful waiter, Jeff. He was fantastic - friendly and helpful and really outstanding overall.

Thoughts on the food - the bread was good with a yummy truffle butter. LOVED the pork belly fries and would definitely order those again. We were picking between those and the sprouts and they came w/ some sprouts so we were happy. Definitely an unusual dish that's delicious.

For mains my husband had the hangar steak and I had the farro risotto. The steak was beautifully cooked and he said it was tasty. The farro was quite overpriced ($34) but was a large portion. Nothing I'd write home about but it was tasty. I'd probably try something else next time. The girl next to us had the chicken and she loved it.

Flourless chocolate cake for dessert was good.

Overall, it's not the cheapest meal you can get but quality was good and service is outstanding. They're weird about the seating arrangements. We ended up in the communal table but there's plenty of space between seats so it doesn't really feel like you're dining with strangers. You've sat closer to people in other restaurants at neighboring tables than you do at this giant communal table. However, the cube seating does get uncomfortable after a while. I would have liked to have been able to lean back at some point.

Oh - drinks were good. Not a cheap wine list by the glass by any means, but cocktails were tasty.

We dined here for our six month anniversary. It was the perfect mix of sexy, romantic, casual and chic. Service was outstanding, and the food was delicious. Their cocktails are well balanced and beer selection on point. We had the best night and will be coming back for more next time we are in Palm Springs :)

There were several large parties, making both the noise level loud and the service a bit slow. However, the quality of both the food and service were very good.

One of the best meals ever. Everything was amazing. Party of two shared four small plates: wood fired pizza with rabbit confit; romanesco: shaved Brussels sprouts; and a little gem Caesar salad with white anchovies. The Palm Springer cocktail was phenomenal. Ended with a lemon tart with sorbet. Dined outdoors with a small dog. The waiter was exceptional. Really a perfect meal.

This was an awesome restaurant experience. The restaurant is not cozy, it’s a concrete and industrial space. But the food is fantastic. The service is fantastic. The drink list is creative and uses spectacular ingredients. The vibe is very cool. I would happily recommend this restaurant to anyone!

I️ have been to Workshop previously and have enjoyed it. I️ love the atmosphere and the design and have always really liked the food. A tad expensive but excellent flavors and freshness. On my most recent experience, however, I️ did not enjoy the waiter at all. He was way too loud and off putting and didn’t seem to fit with the sophisticated vibe. I️ also am a pescatarian and have never had an issues e but now feel the menu is way too gane/meat centric. I️ also have an allergy to onions and garlic which I️ indicated on my reservation and was told I️ could only eat the pork chop out of the entire menu and made to feel bad. Overakk

I was in town visiting with a gf from work and we chose this place to try out a fun/hip spot in Palm Springs. I made this reservation about a week in advance and had no trouble reserving a table. We showed up (after struggling to find parking as there is no valet) only to weave through the patio seating and come in a back door and make our way to the hostess stand that is ambiguously back by the kitchen. The hostess was not rude but she was also not friendly. We were there early and assumed we'd need to go get a drink at the bar. I have never felt more awkward having a drink at a bar. We were totally unwelcome by other patrons as well as the bartenders. My $15 glass of wine was ok and my gf's $14 cocktail could have been made at home. There were about 16 empty seats at the table in the middle of the restaurant and we watched them remain empty until a party of 10 showed up and took up some space. The other seats remained empty even after we were seated at our booth after our reserved time (8:30). The food was good but it was incredibly overpriced. The overall vibe was a little pretentious and we were obviously paying for the location/city. There are no bottles of wine on the wine list under $75 and the glasses of wine to choose from are sparse. My burger was good and I was fine with the price ($26) but our $17 brussels sprouts appetizer was overkill. Not to mention my friend's cod that was a small piece of fish and over $30. I am all for fine dining and paying top dollar for food. Not at this kind of a place though. You better have stellar service and make your guests feel welcome if you're going to charge top dollar for fairly basic food.

The ambiance and the food are excellent. What was off was the tempo of the meal. We ordered a starter, salad, and entree, and they all came out at once. There was almost not enough room for all of the food on the table. I ate my entree first so it wouldn't get cold (the Black Cod - superb), then ate my salad and my starter.
My recommendation: Be very deliberate in instructing your server on how and when you want your food to come out. Certainly (s)he may be at the mercy of the kitchen, and that would not be the server's fault; but assuming nothing seems, in retrospect, like the best strategy.

Amazing food. Great wine. Beautiful architecture and design. Lovely outdoor courtyard. Great service from a French waitress (can't remember her name). Bill came to $225 for two people (3 dishes and 1 bottle of wine), a bit more than I think it was worth compared to other restaurants.

We felt this place was overpriced for the size of portions, though the food quality was good. Asked for a "date" to be considered when booking, but found ourselves at the community table (despite asking to be moved). My partner ordered a dirty martini and found himself in an argument with the waiter over the olive juice. Overall, we've had better experiences.

We were here with family while visiting in Palm Springs. Since we were a family of 5 we sat in the middle on the communal table and it was fine . The decor is beautiful in this restaurant and they also have outside seating.
We ordered some of the craft cocktails and they were very good. The wine selection is very nice as well.
We ordered a sampling of the small plates to share for appetizers and all thought the food creative and well prepared.
Then we ordered main courses as well.
I had the scallops - they were absolutely delicious and my daughters shared the whole cooked fish special and that was wonderful and simply prepared.
All in all a wonderful experience but it is on the pricey side.

We eat out a lot. Had a fantastic experience here. From the minute we walked in the door service was top notch. Hand crafted cocktails. Farm to table menu was spot on. I did the Market Vegetables. Delicious! My husband did the pork chop. Cooked perfectly. Food arrived at perfect pace. I don’t usually do dessert but decided to try the Lemon Tart. Ridiculous. Good thing they only gave me one slice. Give it a go. You will not be disappointed.

A maitre d'hotel should NEVER ask, " Is you second here?" when a patron checks in. The food was C+ at best, uncomfortable booths--excellent friendly service though- and my main course was $30+ for three small scallops. I won't even talk about the dessert! I would never go back.
