Casual atmosphere and great food. Dined early (5:00), so was quiet. Think it would be more lively and loud later.

Food was pretty good but the service was incredibly slow. Might have been because we were in a back room (which I actually don’t mind) but we were waiting for our server to return to the table 3 or 4 times that night

Such a convenient spot when seeing an event at Madison Square Garden. We were happy to get a table in the back to see the kitchen activity. As it was very early, we had entrees, salmon and garlic roasted chicken. Both plates had interesting sides and were very tasty. We couldn’t resist panda cotta for dessert.... yummy!

I WISH I could give the restaurant a great review. The staff was so nice and thoughtful and warm. And the atmosphere is great. The menu looked delectable, especially for two foodies. But at a pretty high price point, the food was not only, not special, but just really OK-ish. The bacon on a Clothesline is a winner (but at $23 dollars.....wow!). The tempura string beans were soggy on the inside and yucky (think corn dog meal) on the outside....it made my friend and I long for the crispy battered string beans of the old Red Cat. The pear and sausage pizza sounded so so good, but the ingredients looked like they'd been tossed on randomly, with sous-chef's eyes closed and never put in the oven to melt in. Truly odd. And the kale caesar salad was nothing special - really just blah with a mezzo-mezzo taste and barely a crunch. It was an expensive evening, and while I'm happy I tried it, sadly I won't be returning. If it was a bad night, I'm happy to hear from the restaurant, and perhaps I'd give it another try, because it seems like there is a lot of unrealized potential there.

Had a girl’s night dinner, and received great service! From the moment we walked in the door. Our server was Will and he was great. I will definitely try this restaurant again.

The have an excellent happy hour. The drinks were PHENOMENAL. That Phoenix Rising is liquid heaven!! The happy hour bar menu was very good as well. Jenna is a GREAT bartender as is Amanda(or was it Miranda, pardon my memory). In any event, they were very pleasant and well versed in their responses to all of the questions my guest and I had(we like extended convos with the people pouring our alcohol. ;))

My guest and I also had dinner(which we almost missed because we were having such a great time during happy hour). I had the salmon and she had the octopus and scallops. Both meals were AMAZING! The ONLY disappointment of the evening was that the Orange Creamsicle creme brulee was removed from the menu. That was a devastating heart-breaker as we were looking forward to that top off the perfect evening. So we ended up opting out on dessert as the ice cream flavors were basic(Vanilla, Chocolate and Pistachio) as were the sorbets (I believe Lemon and Raspberry). Again, those options were boring after coming off such a high from happy hour and our actual dining meals.

But alas.. I would still give 4.5 out of 5 stars, just to leave room for improvement on the dessert. We cannot wait to return!!

P.s. BRING BACK THAT CREME BRULEE PLEASE?!?! :(

We attended the soft opening of DB, Woodpecker..and I raved about it to so many people.. have been back several times... only really disappointed once and the management definitely made it up to us.. THANK YOU!
Last week we invited a good friend of ours to meet at the bar for a glass of wine then have dinner together.. truly everything was OK.... but I'm just sad it wasn't "amazing" like it was the first 2/3 times we came in..
Please do not get anymore lax with service or food.. I love that the restaurant has a low key atmosphere and is very comfy for dining.. but the food and service must be on point EVERY TIME.. not just ok:(

Food was of good quality ... what you expect from a David Burke restaurant. The ambience was nice too, but the service was not up to the standard of other David Burke restaurants like Tavern 62.

This was our first visit to Woodpecker by David Burke. It felt like being in the Adirondacks, one of my family’s favorite places on earth. The service was warm, gracious and efficient and the menu was creative and fairly priced. We loved everything we had: the salmon, a pizza, the chicken, broccoli mops, a salad and the strawberry sundae. The drink list was creative and I loved the wines by the glass. Really a perfect experience.

Brussels sprout app had zero flavor. Salmon entree was a dry, incohesive dish also with little flavor. Pasta with shrimp was super bland requiring salt, red pepper flake and Parmesan to make it palatable.
Poles & holes: churros over cooked, zeppoles insanely dense. Apple tart left a lot to be desired.
Unfortunate experience overall

This is a casual dining venue, more on the rustic side. Serving staff is helpful but too busy to attend us. Food is good. Price is reasonable. I’d recommend it.

I told them it was a birthday celebration and they brought out dessert without a candle. The servers were caught off guard when we sat and didn’t seem to want to serve us. The food was delicious.

Service was spotty at times initially but the manager quickly checked in and got things on track. The Bacon Clothesline was wonderful and set the tone for a very delicious meal. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends for a casual but very delicious meal.

We did not have any food, just a drink at the bar. We wanted to eat, but the woodburning oven was creeping into the dining room and it smelled like we were in the middle of a house fire. Allergies forced us to leave. Hopefully, it's not always that way.

We were really excited about this menu before tasting it, but found ourselves let down. Short version of the story is that most of the food we ordered was overcooked and the experience fell short due to poor execution. I sent a private message to the restaurant with specifics a few days ago, but I guess they didn't care to respond.

LOVE the decor, food is brilliant, interesting and delicious, with little entertaining twists. The 'Bacon Clothesline' is genius and super tasty. Couldn't recommend it enough, love David Burke restaurants and the cook book is amazing also, I love making the lamb shank recipe.

Lackluster dated menu and lukewarm food. Service was good, but service doesn't make up for meh food. The Goat Cheese Gnocchi would have been stellar had it been hot. Expected a little bit more from this David Burke restaurant.

Again an outstanding experience all around. Atmosphere, food and service just fantastic. Never been disappointed at Woodpecker. I enjoy getting there about a half hour before my party and enjoying a drink or two at the bar. The bar staff are second to none.

Cocktail was very good. Limited wine selection. Each of the three food dishes were very poor. We began with a selection of baked oysters. My partner thought the half shell was missing the oyster, but it may have been chopped up with the scant selection of other ingredients. We shared a wood-fired chorizo, octopus, and pepadew pizza. I cannot recall any octopus, there were scanty pieces of pepper, and a fair amount of little chorizo chunks. The crust was wood-fired, but overall the pizza was unimpressive. Our last dish was a cavatelli with spicy lamb sausage. It was pretty good, but not amazing. The prices were very high for the quality of the food. We will not return .

What a huge disappointment. Wish I would have read the reviews. Took a client to dinner tonight.
Drinks- specialty cocktails, probably the highlight of the meal.
Appetizers- We had the "Bread and Butter" the bread was delicious. It came with radishes and carrots, they were cold and barely cooked.
Burrata- the size of a golf ball, barely enough for 2 bites.
Dinner- we ordered a bunch of things to share.
Pizza- slightly warm and tasteless
Brussel Sprout side- cold, charred on the outside still raw on the inside
Bloody Mary onion rings- cold, taste was ok. Bit cold onion rings are gross
Pasta special- 3 cheese tortellini with truffle Alfredo sauce- ICE COLD, and not a trace of truffle anywhere.
The manager did have them remake the pasta and Brussel sprouts- pasta came back hot, still no sign of any truffle, and Brussels sprouts were just ok.
She did send out some complimentary cheesecake pops, those were good.
We ordered the "Poles and Holes" for dessert. I still don't know why we even thought dessert would be any better. This was supposed to be donuts and churros with a salted caramel sauce. After about 20 minutes we received a bowl of fried Dough and chocolate sauce. We alerted the waiter thinking this was someone else dessert to which he replied "oh we ran out of churros, they didn't tell me" it was 7:30pm, ran out? And where are the donuts? Because all we had was a bowl of tasteless fried dough pieces.... the manager did remove them from the bill, but the entire experience was a total bust, and not cheap. Also was kinda embarrassed taking a client there since I had suggested it.....

It was a most delicious brunch starting with the Bloody Mary. The roasted oysters, bacon clothesline and pizza were a culinary delight. I look forward to my next visit.

The food was very mediocre - not correct temperature, not spiced/seasoned correctly, etc - and the waiter implied we were being unreasonable when I raised these concerns. Price tag way too high for this quality of food. Not worth going to. There is so much better in New York city

The service was rushed ..half full cocktail was cleared off table while still eating dinner .. except for the Tuna Crudo appetizer, the food lacked interest and bold flavor, and the entree portions were appetizer-sized..

I would have given this restaurant a 5 star except that it is exceptionally noisy. Not a place to have a dinner--rather a very nice watering hole.
