Woodpecker by David Burke
Enjoyed the meal.
We were a group of five for brunch and service was impeccable. Attentive check in on water refill, friendly explanation of menu items, and saint like patience to our group’s indecisiveness. The decor and ambience of place was cute hipster with many rustic, barn like motifs and cute cuckoo clocks - and spacious seating. Food was as expected of any David Burke restaurant, playful and rich items like the clothesline bacon and luxurious burrata with prosciutto. Strangely none of us got a wood burning pizza but the complimentary bread was toasty and delightful. Pork chop was a bit underwhelming compared to app but hash was flavorful; friend’s cavatelli and chicken/waffle were great with a nice spicy kick. Overall, the brunch prix fixe is a superb deal - app and main/pizza and beverage - but left us way too stuffed for dessert. Definitely a neighborhood gem feeling as never felt rushed and looking forward to a repeat visit!
Great food! Great service! Overall great experience.
Went here for V day. Hostess told us to hang out at the bar even though tables were open and we were right on time for our reservation. Hostess seated us about 5 mins later, then forgot the name on the reservation and had to come back. Waiters rushed us through ordering. Waiters then served my entree but they had taken my fork. Took about 5 mins to get anyones attention to get a fork. Took about 20mins after our entrees came to get dessert. Everything was ordered up front--prix fixed. Overall poor service, food was good not great, but way over priced.
We went for Valentines Day dinner (non-pre fix) for my taste all of the tables for 2 are way to close to each other the ambiance is nice casual & warm and welcoming. I don’t know if the restaurant was short staffed or if they normally operate with a bare bones crew but 3 servers for a restaurant is not sufficient. the GM/Host had to take our dessert orders and he bused our table before our check was brought to us The food tasted great everything we had was great the presentation was playful and full of whimsy like you would expect from David Burke the menu isn’t large and the desserts aren’t made in house the red velvet ice cream sandwich are brought in from Melt which is a little disappointing
The food was not good or impressive.
We had the oysters special-odd and over bbqd.
For the mains: the gnocchi- terrible and inedible. It was hard and no flavor. My husband left 3/4 of the plate uneaten. The server just removed the plate and wasn’t concerned that it was not eaten. The truffle pizza was not truffle at all. The dough was good otherwise.
Will never come back or recommend this place.
It was really great, the food is great and the experience is unique. The interior is amazing and the customer service is exceptional. Only weakness is they automatically put parmesan cheese on the pizzas, despite the fact that they do not mention that on the menu. This was disappointing and it tasted really bad.
Had no expectations. Great service. Flavors spot on. Very nice meal.
Try the roasted spinach and mushrooms
Very strong Smokey smell.
The food was absolutely gorgeous. There were not that many people there so we had the place to ourselves which was wonderful. Definitely will go back.
Excellent food, service weak for the price
Would have been an excellent experience except the discomfortingly loud noise.
Comfy and casual atmosphere with excellent food and service.
Terrible food. Oysters were nonexistent
Lamb chops were ordered medium rare and came out medium/well. Pork chop was too salty
Very crowded and while the waiter was very professional he was definitely rushing us to turn the table. Food fare. Noise level high.
An original gastronomic experience that shouldn't be missed!
Everything was amazing! Went to enjoy restaurant week, but will be back again for sure. The staff was amazing and attentive, and the food I don't even know where to begin. At our table we had the Wings and Rings and Gem Lettuce and Beet to start, for entrees, the roasted chicken and the baked goat cheese gnocchi (there is a little spice but nothing unbearable), to finish we had the cheesecake lolipops. Mocktails and cocktails alike were great too!
Food was delicious and excellent service. Decor was cool and loved the music that was playing.
Although the food is excellent the ambiance left a lot to be desired. My husband and I are seniors and we found the noise level very hard to take, compounded by the music playing over the noise which felt like pounding in our ears. The hostess and Maitre’d were both very friendly and made us feel welcome. So that was a plus.
The noise level was so intense I couldn’t hear my friend at all. Request to not sit in any of the side rooms- the noise is amplified and becomes totally disruptive.
Great bar, weak food , bad service, yet very nice people.
Bacon on a clothesline is awesome
What to say about the Woodpecker during 'raunt Week? A cozy environment with a variety of creatively prepared and presented comfort food dishes (appropriate for a chilly winter's eve). The Germanic wood décor and Wachhaus paint and markings lend an old world late 19th century feeling to create the perfect nostalgic ambience for a breakup-date. You nibble on the fusion-calamari and peer through one of the rings with one eye, as if it were a monocle, contemplating if she looks better through a squid tentacle - if somehow the framing of this view trims some of the 40 or 50 pounds she packed on in passive aggressive rejection, since you first met her six years ago. But no, the shapely waitresses only serve as contrast to your soon-to-be ex, who now wears muumuu dresses suited for a late 1970s matron every time you see her. She's beginning to look like her mother. Over the broiled salmon on a bed of roasted Brussels sprouts, and the cavattapi with lamb sausage (delicious, creamy, and filling!) you muse on how the censuring, censoring, snippy, jowly woman in front of you once provided comfort, like the sumptuous Woodpecker food, albeit in minimal doses. You take sip of dry, light Proseco as you think about how later it might be best to avoid romantic contact, as you avoid items on the menu with a surcharge. The ambiance at the Woodpecker, is comforting and dark, with a suggestion that that Goethe or Schiller might materialize from the past, at Mitternacht for a drink to console you on the loss of love with some Nietzchesque observations. Perhaps, you think, after a suitable passing of time, you'll bring another date to this lovely place to share a meal in a more celebratory mood. Certainly The Woodpecker deserves a new-couple date as much as it serves for that last break-up date. That one-hit-wonder Gotye song plays on the music system as the waitress brings the check . . . Toodlepip m'dear, Auf Wiedersehen
Food was delicious, had a Bloody Mary and was perfect made. App came out quickly but entree took atleast 30 min. Table next to use came and left before we got our entree. Besides that everything was great. Staff was friendly and bust boys were on top of cleaning the table and filling water glasses.
all the food was excellent
Worst mute hostess. Uninspired food, bartender cleaned the bar while we were eating because it wasn’t busy. Horrible horrible horrible in every aspect.
Celebrated my anniversary with my significant other. The food was exquisite, the service was impeccably attentive but the dessert we were offered during restaurant week was full of nuts. Besides that it was memorable!
Service wats ok. Food came on time but he didn’t check on us and just put the check on the table without asking us if we wanted coffee or anything else. Atmosphere was a little dreary, looks like they took over an old pub, and decorated to keep it old looking.
We were seeing a show at MSG so the location worked for us. We showed up at 7:45pm and the restaurant was pretty empty, which seems odd since they had such limited availability on OpenTable. The hostess was sitting working on her laptop at the back of the restaurant and didn't notice us for a few minutes. We eventually walked up to the bar and asked for assistance. I'm not sure if it was the end of the night and the crew was tired, but our waiter was really uninterested in our dining experience. Anyway, they were out of the"Lobster Calzone", which was half the reason we had booked and very disappointing, considering that is what the restaurant was known for you would think they go to great lengths to have it available. Otherwise, food was pretty tasty.
Unfortunately, the poor service placed a black cloud over this dining experience. If it weren't for the very attentive and helpful hostess, my party of 6 and I would have gotten up and left. Our waiter was unfriendly and forgetful. The food was ok, but beware, your $25 hamburger is served on an english muffin, with zero prior warning.
A nice experience and delicious food. Healthy items for brunch a very limited. We try to eat healthy so we didn't have many choices. The room is very nice and the staff was attentive. You definitely have to try out the bacon clothesline. Over the top!
Food was very good . Service was good as well . Came in a timely matter . Would definitely go back and recommend
Fantastic Dining Experience !!!! The service and food were top notch !
Excellent food, interesting menu choices. Drink was served a little short, we bought it up to manager when she came over and she sent another over free of charge, that's great service!
We had a wonderful time. The food and service was great and was a perfect night out.
Very enjoyable experience. We liked the casual vibe, with good food. Looked like a good bar scene as well.
